flashback friday round eleventeen million and three.

February 26, 2010

i lost track, so sue me.

no don’t~ then i won’t have any money to buy a house. or go on a honeymoon. no lawsuits please.

FRIDAY! did you ever think we would make it?! i sure didn’t. it has been a week, to say the least.

but none of that matters, because it is the weekend and fun things are planned for every second of the next 60 hours and 39 minutes (that is exactly how long i have until it is back to the daily grind).

thank you for your input on which dresses you liked! they are all made by the designed alfred sung and i cannot find any of them locally.. ugh.. but i am working on it. i love that i can show you guys some options and get a zillion opinions. it is so helpful and i appreciate each and every one of you, so thank you!

real quick, i will show you today’s meals & moves thus far…

meals

before i begin, if it was not flashback friday today, the title of this post would be “i ate four brands of greek yogurt today.”

yoats!

IMG_7069

for those of you who aren’t sure what yoatgurt is all about.. basically it is equal portions of COLD greek yogurt and HOT oatmeal (protein oatmeal if you are me) and adorned with nut butter and/or fruit!

this particular batch had 1/3 cup oats, 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder and a squirt of sugar free maple syrup for the oats part, and the yogurt was 3/4 cup plain brown cow greek yog.  there was a new contender on top:

IMG_7068

barney butter! special thanks to lauren for sending me this stuff in a sweet care package. she is the best ever. seriously, thank you sweet pea!

IMG_7070

how did i feel about the barney butter?

IMG_7071

mmmm. how could i not love it? i love almond butter so much and this brand is no exception. i also i love built in portion control with nut butter so that was appealing. and only 90 calories for that whole packet? dang. that’s not too shabby~ it was definitely more than enough!

lunch came and went and i didn’t eat. it was a busy day and it was one o’clock before i knew it. i managed to grab a couple things from the kitchen…

siggi’s icelandic yogurt.

IMG_7073

i LOVE how creamy and thick this stuff is (TWSS)IMG_7074

i love the stats and ingredients!

IMG_7077

i don’t love how expensive it is.. but it is a nice treat now and again :)IMG_7075

i also had a flat out+classic sabra+smoked turkey wrap…

IMG_7083

yeah. pretty boring.

i am going to try to stretch more often! the comments in my last post made me realize that maybe one day i could actually touch my toes :) i have never done yoga.. i have done pilates a few times and quite frankly looked pathetic doing it. i am definitely the most inflexible person in the state of utah. hopefully one day i can touch those tootsies.. until then, i will live vicariously through averie~ who, by the way, had the best answer to my touching the toes question:

************************************************************

in my last post, i mentioned that today is my biggest sister marisa’s birthday!

for this installment of flashback friday, i decided to flash back to february of 2009~ when my parents, marshall and i went to california to visit marisa and her family.

you may recall flashback friday round 7 when i showed you our trip to dublin, california for my brother-in-law’s birthday.. i guess we like to visit them on their birthdays!

not only was it marisa’s birthday, it was also my oldest niece, kaylee’s, baptism.

you can read a full on recap of the trip here, on my old blog.

the trip began with my sister getting a lemon tree for her birthday. that really set the theme of the whole weekend… you can imagine how many times i burst into song~ singing peter, paul & mary’s classic “lemon tree” ballad.

image

you can see mister lemon tree behind marisa and my niece, lucy.

we celebrated her birthday with some delicious mexican food (and churros with chocolate!)

image

and then we went home where she opened gifts and we had lemon sour cream pie~

imageimage

we got pedicures~

imageimage

and went bowling~

image imageimage imageimage image

we finished that day off with my mom and i singing a duet of “lemon tree”~ sorry i don’t have the audio recording. it was epic.

imageimageimage

and i made about 100 cream cheese filled cupcakes!

of course i didn’t take photos. sigh. this was before the food bloggin’ days.

oh, here is proof that my dad was there!

image

that saturday, we went to kaylee’s baptism. it was so great to be able to attend.

image

she got her first set of scriptures and had a super cute dress~

image

i can’t believe she is NINE now. and we won’t say how old marisa is ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARISA! love you!

i got her a year subscription to real simple magazine. :)

okay~ i gotta jet! marshall and i are going to get some dinner and go to my friend’s to hop in the hot tub. and i have tons of prep to do for out engagement party which is tomorrow night! yay!

hope you all have a terrific weekend! love you all!

Qs~

1. favorite brand of protein bar? or if you prefer home made ones.. give me your recipe! my new favorite is lizzy’s.. ahh.. too bad i only have one left! they are so good! but i also love luna bars.

2. weekend plans? ready, go! hot tub, caterer appointment, wedding vendor open house, cooking up a storm, engagement party, snowboarding, house hunting, family dinner and maybe a movie! dang.

  2. February 26, 2010 8:17 pm

    loveeee greek yog!
    bars look yummmayy!

  3. February 26, 2010 8:20 pm

cute kid! i love the new luna cookie dough protein bar yum yum. haha averie is so funny! siggi’s are such a great treat!

  4. February 26, 2010 8:22 pm

Those bars look great and awesome stats too! I know you listed the ingredients but is there the full recipe floating around? I don’t have a favorite protein bar but am always on the hunt!
My weekend plans are not set yet but I’m leaving for California tomorrow so I’m sure it will be fun!

  5. February 26, 2010 8:38 pm

Eeee Dublin bowl!! Have most definitely been there ;-)

    1. Not such a fan of protein bars because they always taste chalky to me. So I’m sure homemade ones would be MUCH better.

    2. I have REALLY exciting plans – finish my senior project essay!! And study, do a lab report, and another project. Sounds fun right? ;-)

  6. February 26, 2010 9:12 pm

I am looking for the recipe too. Even went to her site and searched. They look wonderful and the stats are great. Wait…are they homemade? Are they commercially made with her recipe? The nutrition label throws me.

  7. February 26, 2010 9:37 pm

I looked everywhere for the recipe and the nutrition label is throwing me off too. Please share!!
I really like the flavor of EAS myoplex lite bars, but they’ve got that dreaded palm kernel oil and other things I shouldn’t eat. Susan (over at The Great Balancing Act) made some amazingly yummy bars: http://thegreatbalancingact.com/2010/01/30/burning-down-the-house/ I have attempted them once and LOVED them!

  8. February 26, 2010 9:49 pm

Oh man…I’ve never really found a protein bar that I LOVED. I must try this one. Must.

Weekend plans – I’m throwing a babyshower for a co-worker tomorrow, and then vegging out. Can’t wait.

Have fun at your engagement party!!!

  9. February 26, 2010 10:09 pm

I heart Luna bars the most. LOVE

Sounds like such a busy and fun weekend. I’ll be lucky if I make it to the gym and the grocery store. We’re being hammered by another winter storm. I doubt my little car can handle even getting out of the driveway. YUK!

    XO

  10. February 26, 2010 10:23 pm

liz sent me the pow wow bars too .. SO DELISH! i want one already again!!
have fun at the party love!
    you=my hero for yoatgurt
GOTA TRY SIGGIS! heard it was ooober THICK! just how i like it..bahah
    LOVE YOU J!

  11. February 26, 2010 10:55 pm

I like that siggi’s yogurt too but it IS SO DANG EXPENSIVE. I only bought it once when it was on sale at WF.

I see you’re wearing your ring. Did you get it sized to fit!?! :) It’s so pretty. I want one – just ring, not to get married – not ready yet :)

  12. February 26, 2010 11:39 pm

I’m sorry….I can’t see the protein bar because your HONKIN’ ring was in the way. ;)

Do we get the recipe? I totally want to make those!

i’ve yet to try barney butter! i wish they sold little packets near me so i could sample some without having to commit to a big $10 container

  14. February 27, 2010 3:54 am

This is random but I love how you are wearing your headband over the top of your bangs. I try to wear one like that all the time but I just can’t pull it off. Maybe I just haven’t found the right headband.

Weekend plans – I need to get some sleep up in the middle of the night fighting a cold. Ugh.

Protein Bars – I love Mint Builder Bars by Cliff. Those homemade ones you were eating look amazing.

  15. February 27, 2010 5:36 am

I love barney butter but it is no where around me. :( My favorite protein bars are Clif white chocolate macadamia, but they just don’t have enough protein for my liking and too many carbs. But I eat them in a snap. ;)

  16. February 27, 2010 5:51 am

I really like the Perfect Foods Bar…mmm..pb fudge. That’s what they taste like. I’m glad I found them! Now I see them all over the blog world ;)

That DOES look like a baller homemade protein bar! I NEED the recipe!

I’m going bowling for Mike’s birfday!

  17. February 27, 2010 6:07 am

I like Luna bars and Balance Bars in the caramel blast flavor. I need to find that Siggi’s yogurt!!
I’m apartment/condo hunting this weekend. I hate looking at places so I’m not looking forward to it. It’s like, “Oh, here’s a room, here’s another room, and a bathroom!” They all look the same. I’m also going to try to do something funky with my hair over the weekend. At least that will be fun! Enjoy your weekend darlin!

  18. February 27, 2010 6:10 am

    Those bars look awesome!

    1. Tie- Luna and Glo bars. I want to make home made but I have not yet!
    2. Studying (boo), out to lunch, shopping, out to dinner, ZOO(!), Sunday night dinner. =D

Can’t wait to hear about the party!
    xo

  19. February 27, 2010 7:07 am

haha wow I’m impressed. 4 different greek yogs in one day. Bravo!

    1. I like Luna’s and also the Kashi Crunchy bars are good for a nice fiber/protein combo.

    2. Rest, rest, maybe some going out mixed in..REST!

Yay for your engagement party! Can’t wait to hear what a great time y’all have! :)

  20. February 27, 2010 7:09 am

Sounds like you are going to have a busy weekend! Have lots and lots of fun!!! Such an exciting time in your life… :)

    I’m off to a Bootcamp class, and I’m getting a massage tomorrow… :)

  21. February 27, 2010 7:10 am

I got to try Lizzy’s bar too and they are SO GOOD! She’s definitely onto something! Averie’s chocolate chip peanut butter protein bars are amazing, too :) This weekend is homework, homework, homework and my best friend’s birthday dinner tonight. Yay! Have a good one :)

  22. February 27, 2010 10:48 am

hey everyone! lizzy did not give me the recipe~ she sent them to me to try out. i think she is going to try to mass produce them! hit her up if you want more details :)

Gurllll I have been droolin’ over those Siggi’s. The stingy college gal in me isn’t willing to shell out the big bucks though. Although considering what I spend on nut butter, I really shouldn’t discriminate…

I don’t really have a fave protein bar! I’d love to try and make my own sometime.

This weekend I am snowed in at home! All’s well though, bc I’ve got lots of studying to do and a stove to cook on.

  24. February 27, 2010 2:10 pm

    Happy birthday Marisa!

Loving all the Greek yogurt action in this post. And those bars look out of this world!!!!!!

I LOVE cookie dough Balance bars. Also recently discovered frosted cinnamon bun Carbrite bars which are insanely good. There is a type of Powerbar in the UK that is nothing like the US ones and is also amazing- coconut flavoured with white chocolate coating. Love it.

This weekend…seeing my mom, recovering from my week (!) and was going to do an art project but now I really want to hunt down Lizzy’s recipe and bake!

  25. February 27, 2010 4:07 pm

That bar pic was just a shameless excuse to show off your amazing ring. That’s ok though. I wanted to see it again :)

    LOOOOOOOVE YOU!!!

  26. February 27, 2010 6:10 pm

You are my yogurt idol. So much yogurt, so little time. I am proud for how much you managed to eat in one day :)

Love that shot of you eating the bar…look at your ring bling! Love it.

Great gift idea with the magazine subscription!

    1. Right now I am ADDICTED to Cookie Dough Balance bars.
    2. No big plans yet. So, that probably means working out, cooking, cleaning, and blogging :) Have

I don’t really eat protein bars very often; I’m more of a meat person. And so far my weekend has involved school work, family, and some hardcore retail therapy. Hope you’re enjoying yours!

  29. February 27, 2010 8:18 pm

I love the yoghurt times four: good effort! I wanna try that siggi brand – it looks so thick and delish (yes indeed, twss). Yum.
Not sure about a protein bar but this weekend: ok it is already saturday evening. So far I went out for pizza, baked and cooked allll day and tomorrow I’m meeting Holly for running/brunching! So fun.
    Happy engagement party!!

I guess I’m a day late reading this…thanks for the birthday greeting! I am excited for the magazine…and I think you really need to come for another visit after reading about last year. We could look for wedding stuffs!! Love you!

  32. February 28, 2010 7:06 am

Ohmygosh, so much yogurt!! I have to limit myself to two servings of dairy a day or I get the miserable dairy bloat. And I love Averie’s comment. She’s such a wonderful smartass. You have to try yoga!!! I highly suggest doing an actual class, as doing it at home with a podcast or video is boring as hell. I think the key is to not view it as exercise, but rather a class of stretching, that way you won’t feel gypped ;)

    1. I really like the Atkins Bars but never buy them because they’re expensive and loaded with sucralose and oils. Lately I’ve been making my own and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it!

    2. Well, it’s Sunday. But I’ve done nothing substantial this weekend and it’s been aaawesome ;) Hope you had a rad engagement party and happy belated to your sis!!!

  33. February 28, 2010 8:20 am

Protein bars – I eat a Zone bar, like pretty much every day. Probably terrible, but it’s the easiest thing when I’m at work, affordable, and I love the taste.

    Weekend plans – Working. Boo.

  34. February 28, 2010 8:39 am

I much prefer my protein bars not so sugary and gluten free! x x

  35. February 28, 2010 12:25 pm

love the FBF pics and those protein bars..I am off to google for that recipe and pray i can tweak it…best protein bar ever or at least close? that’s high praise and im all over it! :)

  36. February 28, 2010 1:12 pm

AWw, so glad you enjoyed the Barney Butter. I love those handy little packets. Great to keep on hand for emergencies! :)

Hope you are having an amazing weekend lady!

  37. February 28, 2010 5:18 pm

i’m so mad at barney butter! i signed up for free samps and they never sent me them! like wtf are they kidding me!! hahaha i’m seriously angry though.

anyways i think my new fav love are aprils homemade protein bars :) i’m all about bundling them up and packing them to take to work with me!

love that shot of your bling ;)

  38. February 28, 2010 8:19 pm

Thanks for fillin me in on the yoatgurt–must try that ASAP!
Favorite bar is def Clif–can’t beat the original:)

  39. February 28, 2010 8:58 pm

Hey!! I have an addiction to Cliff bars. I had to stop eating them because I can’t control myself! I love the peanut butter flavor : )

  40. February 28, 2010 9:30 pm

i love you and miss you! and still adore your beautiful hair!!

  41. February 28, 2010 9:38 pm

Hi LOVE! thank you thank you for reppin’ my Bars!! I began getting so many emails about them, and had no idea why (I have been super MIA from blogging this weekend and didn’t get a chance to read your FAB blog!) I’ve got another creation in the making…let me know if you can sample again/compare these ones to the Chunky Monkey ones…I hope you had a fabulous weekend!
(I’m going to post the recipes after I the Bars perfected…I’m loving the stats, but need to work on the consistency!)
    XOXO!!!

  42. March 1, 2010 4:13 am

those barney butter packets are CLUTCH! suprisingy I like BB MUCH better than reg almond butter. I tend to be mroe of a PB person rather than PB but i loved how the barney butter had a peanutty taste event though its peanut free! also love the portion control bc we all know we could eat a whole jar and not think twice!
the siggis yog’s are good! I tried the acai flavor and not too shabby, i want to try some of the others too!

favorite protein bar. I do love Aprils homemade ones! or making homemade ones in general, also love luna the white choc macademia nut and peppermint mmmm

that shot of you yoru mom and sis is amazing! you are so beautiful!

    xo

  43. March 1, 2010 7:06 am

i cannot get over how amazingly gorg your ring is! :) ahh love it.

  44. March 19, 2010 6:50 pm

where did all these beer bottles come from. Man you girls are slobs! OK missed another party…sigh.

Wow you’re gonna turn into a cow with all that yogurt you ate- only I eat that much to rival you!

Love the lemon theme to your sis’s birthday gig- how much fun that was.

Why did you make 100 cupcakes? How many people were you?!!

My wedding dress was afred sung- I didn’t go all girly-girl like I would have today. I went “mother of the bride”- feels like a different lifetime!! So yes, alfred sung chantung silk. Would love a do-over of my choice but the designer was great!

Thanks for round twelve billion blogzillion of FBF! :-D
