the epitome of health. and flashback friday.

January 7, 2011

top three things that pulled me out of my funky mood last night:

  1.  damnyouautocorrect.com –this website NEVER fails to make me laugh hysterically.
  2. penny curling up on my hamstrings. i was home alone so no photo of the situation.. but for a mental image: i was laying on my stomach on the couch, reading aforementioned website, and penny hopped up and curled up in a tight little ball right on my hamstrings. she fit perfectly and it made me smile.
  3. eating 3 huge hunks of jacked up banana bread. reader jenna (hi, jenna!) suggested this smitten kitchen recipe. i made it with whole wheat flour, but other than that minor swap, i followed the recipe exactly. holy amazing! it almost rivals momma b’s banana bread! (almost, mom, i said almost.. don’t be alarmed.)

the amount of bread that is left in the pan tonight should tell you how good this bread is:

IMG_5561

i slathered butter atop the piping hot slices that i devoured last night– within minutes of removing it from the oven, mind you.

i have been eating a lot of butter lately. i used to eat a lot of i can’t believe it’s not butter spray, but guess what? i can believe that that stuff isn’t butter. and the real thing is so much better.

image_thumb11

remember how i am trying to spruce up my diet with more of a variety? i had an old favorite breakfast this morning.

IMG_5523

yoats!

IMG_5519

or, yoatgurt for long. i totally forgot how much i love this!

for those who don’t know, i used to eat this all. the. time. last winter. all it is is a cup of plain chobani greek yogurt, 1/3 cup slow cooked oats and a dollup of peanut butter.

IMG_5525

there is something amazing about the combination of cold yogurt and hot oats—i love the texture and temperature that is created by combining the two.  the peanut butter is always added for flavor and good measure.

i would tell you about my lunch today, except it was eaten in the car. i had to run a stapler to the home show. let me further explain so you can understand how ridiculous it was. we are in the home improvement show this weekend (out at the south towne expo center, for all you utahns) and my office is located about 15 miles from the home show location. instead of going to the office store around the corner from the expo center, my boss had me hope in my car, drive to the home show and give him a stapler. because he “didn’t want to go out in the cold”.. i can’t help but laugh. i love my job, i am not even being sarcastic. it makes me laugh every day.

so, to make a long story less long, i ate my lunch while driving. it was a turkey, cheddar, mustard and hummus sandwich on wheat. and it was tasty!

after work, i took my mom a coke. she never drinks coke, but she has been sick in bed since yesterday and can’t stomach anything! the one thing she was craving was a coke from pace’s.

IMG_5529

if you have been to pace’s, then you know why their coke is different than any other coke. they mix it in house and it really does just taste better. i still hadn’t had a drop of soda since 2009 (my 2010 resolution was no soda) so i went ahead and had a swig of my mom’s coke, just to see how it was. the verdict? too sugary! i don’t miss soda. noted.

anyway, i delivered the coke to my mom, started the tub for her and went on my way. everyone send momma b healthy vibes.

when i got home from my mom’s house, i was dying for another hunk of the jacked up banana bread. i warmed it in the microwave and slathered butter on top until it got nice and melty before devouring it.

IMG_5548

this bread is so good. you were right, jenna.

image_thumb2

i haven’t talked about workouts much lately. the reason for this is because there really haven’t been many workouts in my life lately. actually, before today, i had only worked out twice this year (haha, i love saying that.) i worked out on new years day and then again on wednesday. one cardio session and one lower body session. that’s it. i haven’t been feeling so swell and so i just took it easy.

i did, however, feel up to working out today. so i did. nothing exciting.. just 30 minutes of fat burning intervals on the stairmill at level 10. then i stretched for at least 10 minutes.. i am getting closer to touching my toes!

i came home and text my mom to see if she needed anything. well, there is one thing aside from soda that always makes you better when you are sick.

nielsen’s frozen custard.

IMG_5559

AKA what dreams are made of. if you live in utah and haven’t tried this, you need to stop reading right now and drive your ass to nielsen’s frozen custard. i am not kidding around.

IMG_5565

see? “where god goes to get his ice cream”!

nielsen’s custard is more than ice cream. it is the best frozen treat ever to exist. i eat ice cream everywhere i go and i have yet to find something that rivals this stuff. it comes in several flavors.. we took a quart of raspberry and a quart of chocolate to my mom.

because marshall and i hadn’t eaten dinner yet, we picked up food at nielsen’s. aside from having the best frozen custard on the planet, they also have great burgers.

i got a garden cheeseburger.

IMG_5554

and stole a few of marshall’s fries (for good measure, of course.)

IMG_5556

you don’t think i would go to nielsen’s and not indulge in custard, do you? no way.

we picked up a quart of oreo for ourselves and scooped it up right upon walking in the door to our house!

IMG_5562

like i said, the stuff dreams are made of.

IMG_5569

mmm.

IMG_5570

i am now in a custard coma on the couch.

between the mass amounts of butter consumed lately, the lack of regular exercise for the past 3 weeks and eating a burger, fries and frozen custard for dinner.. it is clear that i am not the epitome of health these days.

lucky for me, this isn’t a healthy living blog. it is more like just a living blog. and i am doing a mighty fine job at living.

****************************************************************

time for flashback friday!

i told you all i would be recapping various parts of my wedding when i had time. well, i have the time! i am starting off with a recap of the venue details and the food.

i am a little disappointed in the photos that i got back of the food. i had a GREAT photographer, but i don’t think he realized how important the food photos were to me. there are ZERO photos of the dessert gazebo.. super bummed about that.

okay, no more dwelling, no use in that! let me show you what i DO have :)

the wedding was held at a tropical plant store called cactus & tropicals on the upper east bench of salt lake city.

Wedding Photography In Utah

the best part about having your wedding at a plant store is you don’t have to buy any flowers! the whole place was already decorated in gorgeous tropical flowers and plants. they even supplied orchids for the centerpieces. the only flowers we did purchase was for the bouquets and boutonnieres.

Wedding Photography In Utah

there was also a bunch of cute odds and ends decorating the whole area—all items that were for sale.

Wedding Photography In Utah

the ceremony was held right in the center of the store, in front of the cupola.

Wedding Photography In UtahWedding Photography In Utah

Wedding Photography In Utah

there was an outdoor area with a koi pond and lots of plants.

Wedding Photography In UtahWedding Photography In Utah Wedding Photography In Utah

the tables for the reception were set up all over the store.

Wedding Photography In Utah

my colors were purple, yellow and black & white houndstooth. you all know i am obsessed!

Wedding Photography In Utah

on the tables, we had an engagement photo, a purple & yellow piece of fabric, a houndstooth scarf, some candles and a disposable camera. i have like 20 disposable cameras STILL waiting to be developed! i can’t wait to see what is on them. well, actually, apparently i CAN wait. but you get my drift.

Wedding Photography In Utah

i made a photo clothes line and had photos hanging all over the venue. i wanted to do this instead of having one of those photo video things, because this way people could walk around and see the photos rather than standing in one place to wait for a video to loop.

Wedding Photography In Utah

these were all childhood photos of me and marshall. i used purple, yellow and houndstooth cardstock to mount the photos.

Wedding Photography In Utah

let’s talk about the food! the food that marshall and i totally forgot to eat. such a bummer. EVERYONE said the food was incredible. for those of you wondering, i used angela’s catering in salt lake city. she was super affordable and great to work with!

oh, i had a few questions back in the day regarding booze.  we didn’t have alcohol at our wedding because marshall doesn’t drink at all (never has) and i drink once in a blue moon. a lot of people couldn’t believe that i wasn’t having alcohol, but i just didn’t see a reason to have it. plus, i really respect my family—especially my parents—and they are LDS and don’t drink. so that’s that.

i decided to just do a ton of different hors d’oeuvres and then dessert because my wedding reception was held at 7:30—many people had already eaten dinner.

here is the exact menu:

  • assorted breads & rolls with flavored spreads:
    • herbed goat cheese with parmesan
    • sweet cream butter
    • raspberry butter
  • stuffed mushrooms
  • pico de gallo, guacamole & tortilla chips
  • bruschetta three ways:
    • tomato rachel
    • pesto cream
    • roast tenderloin with cucumber sauce
  • cold spinach dip with baguettes
  • warm artichoke and parmesan dip with pita wedges
  • fresh fruit
  • fresh vegetables with dip
  • chicken skewers with three sauces
  • meatballs with a creamy alfredo sauce
  • imported and domestic cheeses
  • antipasto platter
    • marinated vegetables
    • hummus
    • stuffed grape leaves
    • roasted garlic & olives
  • water and raspberry lemonade
  • izze sodas
  • coffee and tea

wow, that looks like a great menu! too bad i didn’t enjoy it. ha. here are some photos, again.. sure wish i had MORE food photos. such is life.

the one thing marshall REALLY wanted at the wedding was izzes. they are his favorite. i am glad we had them! and i am double glad they were at costco!

it’s so true what they say—that you won’t find time to eat at your own wedding. i always said that it wouldn’t happen to me.. but, in fact, it did. we left the wedding and we were starving! i guess you just really get wrapped up in everything else and the last thing on your mind is food. so strange for me.

there will be plenty more wedding flash backs in the future. hope you guys enjoyed this one!

well, this is officially the longest post ever. thanks for hanging in there. pat yourself on the back.

Qs~

1. married folks: what was the food/drinks situation at your wedding? and did you find time to eat? unmarried folks: what do you have in mind for food/drinks if you do have a wedding in the future?

2. what/where is the best ice cream/frozen yogurt/frozen custard/gelato you have ever tried?

    A few things….
*Linky likes to rest on my booty. He will lie on it then rest his head on my back, it’s weird but cute.
*After seeing your oats/greek yogurt combo, I had to try it and it was bomb! I haven’t had it in awhile but most bring it back soon.
*I love when places have awesome Coke. I think McDonalds has the best Coke ever and have no clue what they do to it but it is heavenly.
*I am sitting here blinking my eyes in amazement at that custard. I want some.
*I am sad that I can’t narrow down my favorite cold treat—I am equal opportunity and like them all!

  2. January 7, 2011 11:07 pm

I had tons of sandwiches, veggies and such and ate very little. My cake was yummy tho’ and cash bar b/c my hubby was Methodist but being a Baptist girl(my fam did not drink). Now we attend non-denominational church :) Your folks are LDS were you and your hubby raised LDS ? My fave ice cream is dipped cone up in the mountains of Idaho but also there is a custard shop in Boise, Idaho and oooh we love blackberry or huckleberry from a chain here in Parker, Colorado…Good Times :)

  3. January 7, 2011 11:09 pm

I made sure to eat dinner, but I had NO cake! (well, I had the bite when we cut it, but that was all!)

my husband and i didn’t eat at all at our wedding, in fact I only had one piece of cake (cheesecake is my favorite and that’s what we had!) the little bit that i did have was fantastic and everyone raved about the food and the dessert. we got married at the flamingo in las vegas…it was a blasty. the best ice cream i have ever had is from marianne’s in santa cruz (here is a yelp page for it http://www.yelp.com/biz/mariannes-ice-cream-santa-cruz) it’s a family thing too. when my grandparents were young they would drive all the way (about an hour) to go and get ice cream there, then my dad and I would do the same growing up, and now my husband and i will drive all the way there o get ice cream too! it’s awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  5. January 7, 2011 11:49 pm

you didnt make beer out of the bananas???? I think that recipe looks better though.

Man I wish I was at your wedding! even if I was a crasher, the food alone would have had me!

Being a chef makes it SO hard to decide what I would want for my wedding! It would be cool if it was on a farm or vineyard and we could pick out own grapes or whatever and make our own wine. Either that or I’d want REALLY GOOD burgers! and huge condiment bar with every kind of ketchup/mustard under the sun.

I love gelato and obviously, I had my best scoop in Italy! where else?

“lucky for me, this isn’t a healthy living blog. it is more like just a living blog. and i am doing a mighty fine job at living.”—

LOVE IT, and yes, you are doing a fine job at living!

the soda, sounds great…i hate soda but making it onsite just sounds….so good

real butter, nothing is as good, period.

the banana bread looks epic. i saw jenna’s rendition, now yours, now i want it!

our wedding lasted 5 mins at a chapel in vegas 10 yrs ago. it was over before i could say, ” bring me to the bar!” and that’s what we did that night. we partied, drank, and danced our ass off til 8am. I think it was a Wednesday. It was great. And no, we didn’t eat. But we sure drank :)

  7. January 8, 2011 12:46 am

Nielsen’s is deadly. So freaking good! Also…I’m pretty sure your wedding was absolutely amazing! The food all just made me starving, and I LOVE the pics of you when you were little. So cute!

All of the food and cakes for my wedding was from Costco. It was small, and everyone said it was great. I also had no alcohol at mine. I don’t drink, and didn’t want it around. I don’t think anyone cared.

  10. January 8, 2011 3:25 am

I love this post…. I love that you are human… Even if you haven’t been your healthiest self as of late, at least you are living well! Glad that banana bread cheered you up :)

averie (above) stole my comment!!! :) i wanted to say that i love how you described your blog as a LIVING blog…that is EXACTLY why i love reading your blog, janetha! (and feel free to do mammoth long posts any time you want!).
our wedding (back in july ’95 – wow!) – i didn’t get any cake!!! i regret that to this day. but my best memory is that my cheeks were just aching by the end of the day from laughing and smiling so much. you have beautiful photos of your special day.
hope your mama feels better asap! so kind of you to deliver cola!

  12. January 8, 2011 4:20 am

Love that you brought yoats back, it has been a while, I LOVE that combo too, and because of you I have tried it before ; )

Wow that frozen custard looks so yummy!!! My fave frozen yogurt I ever had was in California at a place called Golden Spoon! Its so good! They have so many different flavors too!

    Happy Weekend ! xoxo

Love the wedding flashback, the pics of you and Marshall from your childhood years is a really cute idea you did, I love that! We are having open bar and a sit down dinner for our wedding, will be nice, the day is almost here! June 18th! Your 1 year wedding anny almost here too! xoxo

  16. January 8, 2011 5:37 am

wow, your wedding looks just like the kind that would result in me having a maaajooor food baby :D i am not ashamed of my love for free food.

unfortunately, the last time i was at a wedding i was a 6 year old flower girl who had to be bribed down the aisle with chocolate….multiple times.

  17. January 8, 2011 5:40 am

Your poor Mama! I hope she feels better fast. I agree cold yogurt on hot oats is amazing. I actually like the hot & cold combo a lot. Hot veggies on a cold salad are amazing. Have you received a package from me….I’m getting a little nervous. I sent it Monday priority so it should have been there Wednesday. Let me know.

    1. married folks: what was the food/drinks situation at your wedding? and did you find time to eat? We had a sit down dinner. If I were to do it again, I’d do a buffet situation or stations, that way everyone can really have more of what they want! Our venue was very good at diverting people and making sure we sat down and ate our dinners

    2. what/where is the best ice cream/frozen yogurt/frozen custard/gelato you have ever tried? hmmmmmmmmmmm. Pumpkin frozen yogurt in TN

  18. January 8, 2011 5:48 am

The same thing happened to me on my wedding day. We made a pit stop at Arby’s before continuing onto our honeymoon!

  19. January 8, 2011 5:57 am

living life >> being the epitome of health. just sayin’.

the food at your shindig looked amazing! i would want a fine balance of veggies and hearty meat dishes to please everyone. i would be sure, though, that it all had a healthy spin – prepared with good oils, not fried, etc. etc.

the best ice cream i’ve had is from cones on bleeker street in NYC. it also happens to be right across the street from the best pizza place ever, keste. come visit and see for yourself!

  20. January 8, 2011 6:02 am

I can NOT eat hot oats without cold yogurt anymore. You think I’m joking? I just made a batch of pumpkin oats and without thinking, I added a spoon of vanilla Greek yogurt. It’s becoming as natural as adding PB on hot oats.

Gosh, your engagement party was so beautiful! Everything, the people, the weather, the food. Love seeing this.

My favorite food at our wedding as the Strawberry Champagne. Although I guess that doesn’t count as food.

Favorite ice cream is Brusters White CHoc. Raspberry. Heaven in a cup!

our wedding was at a restaurant/catering hall so not only did we have 12 choices to offer our guests for dinner, but the amazing bridal staff created a small area outside where they ushered my hubs and I off too alone before the cocktail hour started so that we could have some time alone to eat and mentally prepare for the rest of the day! It was probably less than 10 minutes but we got some amazing food and fueled our bellies for all the dancing and hugging of long lost relatives that ensued. great post, and I cant wait to try the banana bread

  22. January 8, 2011 6:42 am

Thanks for posting the banana bread recipe! I’ve been itching to make some soon.

We had our reception at a Mediterranean resturaunt and we had an amazing spread! We didn’t have time to eat at our wedding either but my mom made sure to pack us goodie bags of everything. So once we got back to the hotel we feasted. We didn’t change instead I was sitting in my wedding dress, barefoot on the hotel floor eating and laughing with my new husband. It was a great memory!

  24. January 8, 2011 7:01 am

Your engagement party was beautiful! My favorite ice cream is pumpkin ice cream and cup of dirt ice cream from a local farm down the street from my house! It’s creamy perfection in a cup.

I really need some of that banana bread. I guess I am baking today ;)

Great pictures!! I still wish we had pictures of the food at our wedding….
I made sure to eat at our wedding – I knew the food was going to be too good not to! :)

Girl, you are SO right about butter- nothing beats the real thing. Why did I EVER not let myself eat it?!?! Butter is love, says my 100-pounds-soaking-wet chef. It’s all about moderation. Except I don’t actually moderate my intake… :P

Beautiful wedding and amazing looking food! I totally made SURE I ate at mine by asking our em-cee (N’s sister!) to call us up first to start the buffet line! I loved it. We ate, then chatted with everyone while everyone else ate!!

Best gelato… Italy. Best Ice Cream… Brickley’s home made in Rhode Island- they make it ALL there!! And best froyo… also brickleys. But ikea’s is also amazing. hehe.

Our friends own a Moe’s franchise and they catered our wedding…it was FABULOUS!!!! We had nacho tables and a burrito bar. No one left hungry, not even us : )

I love Bruster’s Real Ice Cream! So so good. I am from VT and used to go to the Ben & Jerry’s factory all of the time when I was younger and loved it, we don’t have a Ben & Jerry’s store close though and I don’t really like to get ice cream from the grocery store so I have not had it in a while. If I see a B&J store though – I totally stop.

i LOVE andy nelson’s frozen custard in missouri. i am a maryland girl but my sister-in-law’s family is from missouri. i don’t get there much, but when i do, i get a fresh raspberry concrete or dr. pepper freeze everyday!

Beautiful photos! I love the tropical feel. Our food sitch was an not a full meal but more of finger foods. The most important thing I wanted there were my mom’s eggrolls. I didn’t get to eat much. We had our Sheltie in the wedding and he stole the show!

  32. January 8, 2011 7:34 am

The photos are great. Your venue and decorations were fantastic!

I’ve only had frozen custard ONCE…and for the first time…when I visited Milwaukee! We went to Kopp’s. I think I got a combo of Mint Chip and Rocky Road. All I know is that it was amazing…and I was really afraid of custard at first.

I used to think I’d want open bar. Then I switched to open beer and wine. And then I realized that my favorite wedding where I had the most fun and no hangover was the one with only an open cocktail hour and cash bar. So I’m really torn. :)

  33. January 8, 2011 7:47 am

I need to do a full wedding recap! We got married in May ’10, and my mother and sisters-in-law made EVERYTHING! Our ceremony was at 6, so we obviously had to feed people at the reception! We had a great assortment of sandwiches, and I asked many of my aunts to bring desserts! It was a great way to cut down on money (to make our own food and have people bring a dessert and no alcohol). People are still complimenting on the food! HOWEVER- neither my hubs nor I got more than 3 bites to eat. Yes, we were the first ones to go through the food line, but we were spending so much time talking that we forgot to eat! I’m gluten free, and my mom’s best friend made us a rice krispy treat wedding cake! I DID get a few big bites of that! On our way to the hotel, we were snacking on a box of Crispix cereal that we picked up that morning (my fav cereal)! I think our meals on the wedding day consisted of crispix, peanut butter, a banana, some cake, a few veggies, more cereal and wine at the hotel. Awesome!

Real butter is just something you can’t beat…ever…no matter how hard you try. It’s just one of those “in-moderation” things that you gotta splurge on :) And the best ice cream? Is it crazy that its Publix all natural vanilla? I always was such a chocolate or cookie dough girl but lately thats the only ice cream I’ve wanted!

I LOVE Nielsen’s. We used to live 5 minutes away from the one in Holladay. Trouble. Tell your momma to get better!

Apparently we had really great food at our wedding which we didn’t get to taste because we were being forced into the stupid “wedding line” even after we made a deal NOT to have a wedding line. Sigh.

I don’t really remember what the food was at our wedding…I know we sat down for a minute to eat but the whole time we talked about our day. We hadn’t seen each other since the night before and our wedding was @ 7pm so we had so much to talk about…then is was up to make our rounds.

I do remember the cake though…yumm…red velvet cake and it was still as yummy a year later.

I am not a big ice cream eater…but I love a scoop of Baskin Robins choc chip or a dumsers choc chip milk shake…yum…oh and I really liked the Eddy’s egg nog seasonal ice cream I got during the holiday!!

this post was packed! the photos are beautiful and it would have been amazing to be a guest at your wedding by the looks of things! i totally agree about not enjoying the food, i barely ate a thing that night! we had an open bar (and boooooyyy did the guests take advantage lol no one was rowdy though i love my friends). we had a tapas hour (and we took photos during this time so i didn’t get to try any of it!) fruit plates, veggies, lime, butter scallops, cheese trays/crackers. the main was a buffet with prime rib to be carved, whole salmon with dill creme (it was beautiful!), salad, roasted yam (i had an autumn wedding), rolls, roasted veggie assortment, caprese salad. and a dessert buffet as well…nate and i hate cake so we didn’t have one! we had several different pies, cookie trays, brownies, petit fours, chocolates. it was ridiculous!

edited to add that our food was catered by someone who was in charge of the Smithsonian events catering a couple years ago. the guests were raving and from what little i tasted it was some of the best food i’ve had!

Oh my word that frozen custard looks absolutely amazing. I wish we had something like that here in Boston!
Question: (feel free to disregard though!): Since your parents are Mormon, were you raised as well? Just curious! I find the religion very fascinating, and my Uncle and his family (whom reside in SLC too) are also LDS.

Thanks for being so real-life btw! It is quite refreshing!

Hi amy! Yes, I was raised Mormon. As I got older I realized that the religion is not one I completely agree with. I still have a lot of respect for the church and believe it teaches great morals, but it’s not for me. :) thanks for commenting!

that photo of the straws should be blown up and framed!

  52. January 8, 2011 7:52 pm

I love your wedding so much because it’s so YOU GUYS!

Are you kidding? I had my entree and the server brought me a portion of the other option. I ate both! My feet were hurting so much that I sat at our table (for two) and for a while my 4 year old nephew sat with me, and he ordered coffee! You should have seen the look on the server’s face!

You’re the best daughter! Wishing healthy thoughts for Momma B!

  53. January 8, 2011 8:30 pm

OMG those photos! I’m in awe!! Stunning.

FroYo- I’m an addict. But I can’t actually say that there is any one that stands out in my mind as the best. But Eden had it right saying that Italy would have the best ice cream/gelato.

OK I thought your yogurt oats said yogfarts. ??Crazy me. I too love the hot/cold combo.

Please give a huge hug to Mama B> I know she’s sick when she wants real coke. I’d be very sick to want it too.

I’m with Lynn- the straws really stand out. And those doughnut hole thingies. YUMMM

  54. January 8, 2011 8:44 pm

Mmm… I could totally go for some frozen custard. I’ve never had it, but is sounds amazing. Next time I’m there!

I LOVE all your wedding pictures, and you know I love the color choices!

  55. January 8, 2011 9:55 pm

I really need to try some yoats! I hear people raving about them all the time! I used to use that butter spray all the time too, but it is so fake! The real stuff is SO much better!

Love the wedding photos! What a beautiful atmosphere!
When my ex and I were married, we had lots of finger foods: tiny sandwiches, veggies and fruit, and my aunt’s famous orange balls (not quite sure of the recipe, but I know they have OJ concentrate and coconut in them)! I think I ate one orange ball and one bite of cake!

I don’t eat it much, but I love Coldstone Creamery’s Cake Batter Batter Ice Cream! Cake batter flavored ice cream with cookie dough and fudgy brownie bites! Mmmm, I die!

  56. January 8, 2011 10:42 pm

That’s a strange, kooky thing to crave when you’re feeling unwell…coke! haha, I like your mom, bless her. I hope she feels better.

The BEST frozen treat I’ve had was a pistachio gelato I got at Quebec City…they sure know their gelato!!!

    • January 8, 2011 10:56 pm

hahaha well you know, people like sprite when they have been puking? kinda the same thing. the carbonation helps i guess. man, i wish i was allowed into quebec…

  57. January 8, 2011 11:24 pm

everything looks so good and fresh! i wouldn’t expect anything less ;)

fav fro yo would be the self serve kind, i really just like the regular tart stuff. for store bought, i think edy’s slow churned is really good too.

I am loving all the recaps of your wedding. I’m going to do something similar with the photos and using purple.

We are having Memphis barbecue at our wedding. It should be good and casual and fun. :)

I about fell out of my chair when I saw the picture of Nielsen’s frozen custard! Very close family friends live in Bountiful, and when I was young, we’d visit them every two years or so. You better believe we’d go to Nielsen’s EVERY SINGLE DAY. To answer your question, Nielsen’s is some of the best ice cream/custard I’ve eaten in the United States…Fenton’s Creamery in the Bay Area is amazing as well.

Great photos of your reception! And I’m sending Momma B get-healthy vibes!

  61. January 9, 2011 5:58 am

Would you believe that I’ve never actually tried gelato? I know! It’s horrible. I need to change that. :D

    The pictures are beautiful!!

It will be SO fun for you to develop the rest of those photos! THat is probably a GREAT thing for you to do some day when you’re not feeling exactly “happy-go-lucky!” You can get them for 1hour development and have an instant pick-me-up!

Your photos are gorgeous – your wedding looks like it was an absolute blast!

  63. January 9, 2011 1:59 pm

You are indeed doing a fine job of living. :)

I LOVE your wedding food pics — so much variety and color. I want my wedding to have food like that someday!

  64. January 9, 2011 2:19 pm

    1. That banana bread is bookmarked. I’ve made SO many loaves but I have yet to find a recipe I really love.

    2. Your wedding menu is amaaaaazing! I love the assorted breads/spreads idea.

    3. If I ever get married I will need and open bar. My family, put nicely, are all drunks. They wouldn’t have anything else :P

    4. Best ice cream I’ve ever had is from Cows, a PEI company. Although I blogged about it when I was in Banff!

“lucky for me, this isn’t a healthy living blog. it is more like just a living blog. and i am doing a mighty fine job at living.” LOVE that…except guess what? LIVING, and enjoying it!, is healthy…so it’s a win win! Thanks for being so real J!!

Oh man I LOVE that venue! So unique and it looks really fantastic in the photos (these and the ones you had posted before). Very nice choice. In regards to wedding food, my man wants a giant sandwich. LOL. I really don’t even understand why he’s so set on it, but he always brings it up and he’s going to be disappointed if he doesn’t get one. I want Mexican food (big surprise there) and I love buffet style so everyone can get as much (or little) as they’d like. The other idea we liked was this catering service that does BBQ, with the pits and everything, real homestyle-like. We’ll see how it all plays out when we’re actually engaged and really planning!
