MOVING ON!

you have seen this gem floating around blog world for about a month now…

image

the marty’s blogger babes calendar was put together by the amazing deb (aka smoothie girl) of smoothie girl eats too. her dad, marty, used to always say that deb’s blogger friends could be in a calendar because we are all so smokin’ hot (i am flattered). well, deb decided to make her father’s calendar idea a reality and the blogger babes calendar was made. it is a collaboration of 14 food & fitness related pinup photos of 14 fun bloggers, myself included.

image

i can’t help but quote, once again, deb’s explanation of the calendar. i love the way she explains the whole thing:

The idea for this calendar stemmed from a running joke that my Dad used to make.  He always said that my blogging friends were pretty enough to be calendar girls.  Each time I had a ‘meet up’ with a new girl, he would ask “So another one for the calendar?”  The answer was always “yes.”  And we giggled at the thought of a blogger calendar.

It wasn’t until he was dying of lymphoma in April 2010 that I had the idea to turn his joke into a reality.  Working together on this project was a fun distraction for him in his last weeks of life.  He helped to choose all of the girls and his favorite photographs as well.  The day before he died, he chose the final photo.

here is a glimpse into the calendar:

december 2010 is deb & her dad, marty, and a great explanation of the whole calendar shenanigan.

and the calendar girls~

for more information about the calendar and for links to each calendar girl’s blog, you can check out deb’s post here.

although marty has passed away, there are several people suffering from lymphoma cancer. proceeds from this calendar will be dollars donated for lymphoma research.

i purchased a number of calendars myself, planning to give a few away to my readers. but, if you don’t win, i encourage you to purchase a calendar from deb and help support the cause. it would mean a lot to me and i know it would mean a lot to her. click here to purchase a calendar, only $15!

onto the giveaway! i am giving away not one, not two, but THREE marty’s blogger babes calendars. i really want to get the word out about the calendar and raise more $$$ for cancer research, so the giveaway entry requirements are all about spreading the word.

    I love this giveaway!!!

This year we found out that our niece has a chance to go to Europe next summer if she can raise a certain amount of $$$$. We donated as much as we could towards it and my husband matched it with a check from his business. She was so happy!

I love this calendar! Such a great thing!

I get to serve others daily because I’m a nurse. I absolutely love being able to nurture and support people. It’s such a rewarding career and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

  10. December 17, 2010 2:25 pm

Even if I win, I’m giving Deb money cause its a great cause!
Although the circumstances are grim, I’m glad I’ve been there for my dad, visiting him every single day after his brain hemorrhage that happened on thanksgiving. He was so good to my mom when my mom had cancer and although couldn’t replace my mom when she passed away, he was there with me buying tampons and bras. I’m so thankful I still have him and its my pleasure to help him now that he needs me.
O, and I’m a chef, so serving people’s stomachs is my job!

What a great giveaway Janetha. I love what the calendar represents and what Deb did to help raise funds.

A few little things I’ve been doing is donating bake goods to bloggers that had bake sales for charity. I also donated money to the Food Bank in the area while participating in the Turkey Trot for the Food Bank.

I’ve FB, tweeted and now I’m commenting! I don’t know if I should leave 3 comments, so I’ll just leave 1 for now.

Every year, my hospital participates in a huge canned food drive for a local shelter here in Omaha. It’s a big competition and they have departments compete against each other to see who can bring in the most poundage. I have only been here since June so this was my first time! My department narrowly lost to Respiratory/Patient Info, but I am proud to say that we raised 33,000 pounds of canned food total! I also learned that this is the biggest donation the Siena Francis House gets all year long, which I think is amazing.

Served others—hmm by being my lovely self. No, jk. I guess the last way I’ve served others or helped others was by surprising my lab partner with a free 60 minute neo natal massage. I knew she was stressed adn could use it!
