it’s OK!

October 9, 2010

it’s OK to steal melissa’s awesome weekly feature as an idea for a post. as long as you give credit where credit is due. and as long as you mention that she’s probably the funniest person I’ve never met.

it’s OK to get all dolled up even though your only plans are to sit inside a dark movie theater. and hold hands with your husband. sometimes spending 15 minutes instead of 3 minutes doing your make-up is fun.

IMG_0689

it’s OK to take a trip to anthropologie and NOT take photos of all the cute dishes, house décor, etc. yes, you may be a blogger, but you are also on a date. your readers won’t care if you don’t snap a photo of the adorable ceramic nesting measuring cups. I promise.

it’s OK to not take a single picture all night long, actually. I did have my camera with me last night.. but I decided to throw the “blogger” title out the window and just be a wife. and have fun. and we did. no pictures needed to prove it.

it’s OK to cover your eyes when the scary music starts up during the movie you’re watching. it’s also OK to squeeze your boy’s hand just a little tighter.

image[source.]

it’s OK to watch episodes of the family feud until one in the morning.

IMG_0566

it’s also OK to wake up at 8 AM.. only to watch more episodes of the family feud.

IMG_0563

it’s OK to be so excited about the new waffle iron you got last week that you leave it out on the counter for easy-access waffle making. FYI: only $39.99 from costco!

IMG_0355

it’s OK to pretend that my two ingredient protein waffles are “made from scratch”.

IMG_0549

it’s OK to set the table for a nice, sit down breakfast for one. it’s not my fault marshall had to work today. I was looking forward to a sit down breakfast all week!

IMG_0555

it’s OK to drink a whole pot of french press all to yourself. it’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.IMG_0554

it’s OK to use “the real deal” when it comes to the cream in your coffee. because sometimes almond milk gets boring. and real half & half tastes delicious. let’s face it.

IMG_0553

it’s also OK to use “the fake stuff” when it comes to toppings on your waffles. I promise, it won’t kill you. and if you like the taste of spray butter and sugar free syrup like I do, then go ahead, eat it. I promise it’s OK.

IMG_0552

it’s OK to get excited every time you eat waffles.

IMG_0556

it’s OK to drink from the costa rica mug your parents brought you as a souvenir and wish you were actually in costa rica. or anywhere on vacation, for that matter.

IMG_0557

it’s OK to use a little fork when you eat, even though you are 27 years old. it’s even OK to go to the effort of washing a little fork to avoid using a big fork. hey, I have little hands!

IMG_0561

it’s OK to be sad when they are gone.

IMG_0656

it’s OK to not give these monsters any breakfast after they eat $15 worth of fresh, locally made jerky when you are not looking. you should see how bloated they are. especially randy. I am fairly certain he was the ring leader.

IMG_0568

it’s OK to think he’s still cute, even though you are real mad at him.

IMG_0575

it’s OK to pat yourself on the back when you manage to capture a photo of BOTH of you dogs mid-yawn.

IMG_0570

it’s OK to decide to bake instead of go to the gym. the gym will be there tomorrow. these black bananas may not.. fairly certain the fruit flies would have consumed them entirely had I not used them today!

IMG_0658

it’s OK to use kitchen gadget for purposes they are not originally intended for. pastry blender=awesome banana masher.

IMG_0661

it’s OK to wing it when making a recipe for banana bread. just make sure you hope for the best.. fingers crossed!

IMG_0664

it’s OK to bust out the kitchen scale to check your measurements. because when you realize that your idea of 1/2 cup of flour is actually 35% more than an actual 1/2 cup of flour, there could be a problem. for more information about actual numbers vs. nutrition labels on products, check out deb’s amazing and educational post.

IMG_0669

it’s OK to not share the recipe because it needs perfecting. it’s also OK to be damn proud of your first attempt at protein banana bread.. especially when winging it!

IMG_0686

it’s OK to wake up at 8 AM but stay in your pajamas until noon. I promise I brushed my teeth.

IMG_0609

it’s OK to eat waffles twice in one day. I am off to meet marshall for the farmer’s market and lunch at a local waffle house.

I promise. it’s OK.

bye!

It’s okay to eat eggs over easy for breakfast and then lick the plate….

  2. October 9, 2010 12:07 pm

I’m commenting simply to tell you that you are adorable!

Also it’s okay to read blogs instead of running when your knees hurt. It’s also okay to shirk all responsibilites and just spend the weekend shopping!

Every now and then I LOVE half & half in my coffee. So delicious.

  3. October 9, 2010 12:12 pm

I do NOT like scary movies!!! I’ve seen too many and they “stay with me” long after the movie is over. Maybe I still believe there are monsters under my bed…sigh…

It’s OK to get ready to workout, put on your gear and then decide shortly after that you are hungry. So you eat lunch and take a power nap instead. Like you said, the gym will *always* be there. Plus, I’ll work harder if I’ve eaten and had a bit of a rest:)

  4. October 9, 2010 12:15 pm

It’s ok to skip a workout because you’d rather snuggle with your cat. :-)

  5. October 9, 2010 12:23 pm

I love your “not taking a picture” Its OK :) Seriously great.
I hate scary movies, unless they’re Silence of the Lambs psychologically scary, not monster scary.

It’s OK to shamelessly self-promote so I can advance to the next round of Project Food Blog. My post goes up tomorrow, voting starts Monday. I’d LOVE to be in round 5!!!

Did you know that “Let Me In” is an American re-make of “Let the Right One In”? I have not seen the American version – but the foreign film is pretty good and available via Netflix Instant Watch. It’s definitely a different movie.

Also, an even better watch is the foreign version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – there’s some rough scenes, but the ending is fantastic.

    • October 10, 2010 10:41 am

i didn’t know that! but now i am going to check it out. thanks!

Both films are fantastic!! I think I actually preferred the U.S. version though…

Hahah we are twins! I was going to post “It’s okay that I ate pumpkin banana oats for breakfast AND dinner”. But then I didn’t post. So I guess we’re like fraternal twins.

  8. October 9, 2010 1:20 pm

It’s ok to go the best club in Beirut with 20 other Americans, dance on tables for hours, get charged $650 for shots that you didn’t buy, argue violently with the owner until 4 in the morning, narrowly avoid getting arrested…

…and the next morning, wake up and admit that it was a fantastic night.

    :)

it’s ok to be reading and commenting on blogs while you’re at work

    1. ZOMG you must know that the movie you saw is a remake of one of my fave films of all time. in fact, i’m kinda scared to see this release of it because it *may* not be as good as the original. please please PLEASE check it out if you haven’t seen it. it’s the cutest thriller ever, i kid you not. Låt den rätte komma in (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/) did you know the title is from a morrissey song? even better! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKsKxr768xw
    2. it’s ok if you started your day with green juice and knocked back a bottled root beer mid afternoon on a walk from a cafe

    • October 10, 2010 10:42 am

i just found that out above! definitely checking it out.

  13. October 9, 2010 1:36 pm

Cute cute outfit! Hope the farmers market and waffles part II are going well ;) Ohhh the puppers. They couldn’t resist the jerky. Somehow Frank manages to never steal food. The bread looks fantastic. Weekend baking <3. Its OK to go out to lunch in your stinky gym clothes ;)

  14. October 9, 2010 1:53 pm

    LOVE scary movies!

Its OK to pay $60 for an updo for a wedding to come home, wash it out and do it yourself.

  15. October 9, 2010 2:24 pm

I cannot do scary movies. Nope.
    And that’s okay.

  16. October 9, 2010 2:25 pm

as long as you don’t use the fake stuff in your coffee, slather waffles in sugar free syrup. just don’t do fat free half and half. cuz that ain’t okay! ;)

it’s okay to eat out every meal on weekends, especially if you’re not paying for every meal. your taste buds will be very pleased and become spoiled if you do it week after week. not like i know anyone who does that. cough.

    happy weekend, miss janetha!

  17. October 9, 2010 2:38 pm

    Loved this post, Janetha!
It’s OK to eat delicious dishes without taking any pictures.
It’s OK to buy your Mom’s favorite muffin (the blueberry one, from Starbucks), even though it costs a bit more then you were willing to pay, just because you want to make her smile.
And, by the way – it’s OK, too, to eat what you crave. Whatever that is :)

  18. October 9, 2010 3:13 pm

Copycat ;) You know I love you.

It’s OK to feel like your tits are going to explode off your chest if your boyfriend touches them. You can’t help the PMS devilgods!

  19. October 9, 2010 3:24 pm

it’s okay to be very productive yet still have managed to avoid doing the one thing you that you’re being graded on. it’s fine because it’s due monday at 9am anyways haha

    ;)

  20. October 9, 2010 3:29 pm

Those dogs look SO guilty :)

Those bananas are BEYOND black. They looked great though and I can’t wait for the recipe.

Just wondering…did you subtract the weight of the measuring cup?

It’s ok to eat the leftover half of last night’s burrito dinner for breakfast.

And can I just say that it is ABSOLUTELY OK to use 1/2 and 1/2 in your coffee. I try to cut back where I can, but there is no replacement for cream to me.

  22. October 9, 2010 3:37 pm

I don’t mind scary movies, but I prefer to laugh–“Zombieland” was a nice mix ;)
It’s OK to clean all afternoon so you can glue yourself to the couch for the rest of the day/night watching college football and playoff baseball with no guilt. And it’s OK to think that tomorrow you will do the same thing, minus the cleaning binge.

Zombieland is one of my favorite movies of all time! Jesse Eisenberg is fantastic, and Woody Harrelson is vastly underrated, in my book.

  23. October 9, 2010 3:56 pm

    I LOVE SCARY MOVIES.

  24. October 9, 2010 4:13 pm

No matter how hard I try, I’m not tough enough for scary movies. me + scary movies = nightmares for weeks. Eeeek. hope you had fun on your date night though!

I’ll be waiting for that banana bread recipe…I’ve got some bananas that are starting to get black and I’m trying to figure out what I want to do with them. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  25. October 9, 2010 4:17 pm

Its ok to sit at home on a Saturday with a good friend, chocolate brownies and ice cream! Isn’t it!?

    Have a fun Sunday x x

It depends on the kind of scary movies. I like the suspenseful, thriller type of scary movies. I don’t like the kind with a lot of blood and gore.
Here is my ok for the day: It’s ok to run a 6k and feel good about it even if it didn’t turn out quite as good as you hoped.

  27. October 9, 2010 7:17 pm

I am not a scary movie fan, I get nervous and anxious way too easily. That being said, I did like Saw when I watched it the first time.

Mine: “It’s OK to take the weekend off from blogging and just live.”

  28. October 9, 2010 7:40 pm

I love scary movies in October, I guess Halloween puts me in the mood. How was ‘Let Me In’ – Meeker and I have been wanting to see it.

It’s okay to take a nap when you are 25 years old…especially if it’s Saturday and you have nothing else to do. ;-)

  29. October 9, 2010 8:33 pm

I love Melissa’s “It’s OK” posts! And I love yours. Good for you going on a fun datey date and not taking pictures. I agree with so many of these including the half and half (fatty yummy deliciousness!) and of course, the dogs. I love the picture of them yawning. When I want to be mad at Lincoln, it maybe lasts for six seconds when I just look at him then take him in my arms and say “Ohhhh you’re so frickin cute”. He is a con artist I tell you.

I hate scary movies. The last one I saw was Saw 3 and only b/c my ex boyfriend told me we were going to see some other movie and I trusted him. Jerk.

It’s ok to be sitting at home on a Saturday night with my dog and netflix and having no guilt whatsoever about it.

  30. October 9, 2010 9:05 pm

“do you like scary movies?”–NO! I have been the victim of violent crime, more than once, in my life. It haunts me and I have a hard enough time just hearing noises sometimes, let alone scary movies. Omg no way!

    I use little forks!
I saw Deb’s post, it was great
Real cream, fake butter and syrup, i love you!
Been to Costa Rica for a month, it was great. You would love it. It’s not for everyone, but knowing what I know about you, you can camp and rough it, you’d love it. And of course not all of CR is roughing it but where I was for a month..it was rough :)

I just re posted a banana bread + PB cake. And I have tons of recipes for ripe bananas and PB in them…but hot diggity your loaf looks amazing!

    2. It’s ok for me to tell the word I’m a nerd for bringing my laptop to Canada, with no intention on using it other than downloading pictures. Yet, I feel it’s ok to share with all the BEAUTIFUL scenery I saw today that is indescribably amazing…please everyone visit BANFF one day and go to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. :D

  34. October 9, 2010 9:49 pm

It ok to shove it in the closet and consider your place cleaned.

Its ok to pretend to text message to get out of talking with that hyper-chatty person standing next to you. It’s called communi-faking, and we all do it.

Its ok to smirk when you see the big, meathead, tough guys at your gym tripping on the elliptical machine.

I like good scary movies, not those slasher flicks. I like the suspenseful, arthouse ones.

  35. October 9, 2010 10:26 pm

I absolutely love scary movies. The more suspenseful, the better! suspense > gore Sw my first one when I was 8 (that’s what happens when you have baby sitters!) and have been hooked ever sice.

    Really fun post Janetha!

  36. October 9, 2010 10:36 pm

    You’re absolutely adorable, and fabulous!
And I agree, all of these things are definitely ok, thanks for reminding us :)

  37. October 9, 2010 10:50 pm

  39. October 10, 2010 1:13 am

It’s OK to love this post a ridiculous amount.

But boo, I hate scary movies!

  40. October 10, 2010 6:39 am

I agree with so many of your things, Janetha! Totally ok to not worry about being a blogger and not taking any pictures to enjoy time with your husband. Totally ok to use half and half. Totally ok to indulge yourself with a nice breakfast. Totally ok to use that awesome mug. For me, it wouldn’t be ok to use ICBINB, but that’s just me! It’s ok for you to use it! I’ve actually heard that there’s all natural sugar free maple syrup, I’d be down to use that.

Anyway, have a lovely dovely weekend!

    • October 10, 2010 8:32 am

Yep it was all natural. :) Thank you for your sweet comment! Xoxo

  41. October 10, 2010 6:54 am

Love this post :) I secretly adore I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter…it’s all my grandparents use and it always reminds me of eating at their house when I was okay.

It’s okay to eat half a loaf of chocolate chip zucchini bread before bed. And by okay, I mean it’s totally delicious :)

  42. October 10, 2010 5:13 pm

I concur on all of the above! :) And today.. it’s OK to treat yourself to dinner at the Whole Foods salad bar.. even if you could have made basically the same thing at home (just a lot more work)..

  43. October 10, 2010 5:47 pm

I’m a little late, but it’s OK to go to bed at 10pm on the weekends.

  45. October 11, 2010 9:43 am

It’s ok to eat a tiny dinner and then eat your weight in biscotti, cupcakes, apple pie, and cookies. Right?

  46. October 11, 2010 3:07 pm

LOL Great minds think alike! I just started a draft for a similar post, because I love Melissa’s “It’s Ok!” series so much!

  47. October 11, 2010 5:41 pm

    I HATE scary movies!!! eek!

And I have that same belgian waffle maker…it stayed on my counter for a month and I ate waffles almost everyday for a month.

My OK of the day: It’s ok to legitimately believe I won’t like my children as much as my dog. Oh wait, maybe that isn’t OK. Well, it’s ok right now anyway! :)
