HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOMMA B! TODAY IS THE DAY!!

please excuse my absence for the past couple days. i have been out living life.

i have pictures to prove it!

and for the sake of keeping a long post as short as possible, this will be mainly photos and minimal rambles :)

enjoy!

saturday.
saturday morning, marshall and i went to the farmers’ market to get things for my mom’s birthday dinner.

IMG_1649 IMG_1656 IMG_1642 IMG_1644 IMG_1647 IMG_1648

it was a lovely time at the market! as per usual.

momma b requested salmon & halibut for her dinner.  i buy fish at one place and one place only: aquarius fish.

IMG_1662

if you live in the SLC and need fish, this is where you need to go! it is on 300 south and about 350 west, right next to caputo’s deli.  not only will you get the freshest fish in the city.. you will also get to see this stud:

IMG_1665

cody is one of my best friends.  he just so happens to slang fish for a living.  it works out well.

IMG_1670IMG_1669IMG_1666

we snagged our salmon and halibut, along with a jar of this:

IMG_1668

i can’t wait to use it!

and then we were on our merry way. we headed to a birthday party for anakin, he’s one! i didn’t take photos at the party.. but i ate my weight in homemade beef jerky and it was fabulous.

after the party i went to momma b’s where she taught me the ways of making the perfect red waldorf (red velvet) cake.

IMG_1692IMG_1691

i will be posting a recipe page for this sometime soon. turns out it is a very technical process and timing is very important when making this cake!

 IMG_1698 IMG_1702 IMG_1712 IMG_1718 IMG_1722 IMG_1724 IMG_1725 IMG_1727 IMG_1731 IMG_1732 IMG_1735 IMG_1740 IMG_1753

whew! finished product will be shown below.

after the cake shenanigans it was off to sushi with some girl friends. we went to my favorite: takashi.

guess what? we ordered the exact same rolls as the last time i went! what can i say, they are delicous.

T & T roll:

vegas roll:

sunshine roll:

IMG_1790IMG_1792

 IMG_1834 IMG_1836 IMG_1840 IMG_1833IMG_1839

DELICIOUS.

and then, of course, there was cake.

IMG_1846 IMG_1850 IMG_1851 IMG_1852 IMG_1858IMG_1859

i ate my way around that frosting. you know me.

oh, one more photo. look what i got from sister in cali!

I can’t wait to see your Red Velvet technique and recipe…and then totally veganize it! (you know I will…)

Happy belated bday to your Momma!

I don’t like fish, but I grill shrimp – I actually have a recipe for a lightened version of New Orleans bbq shrimp I’ve done on the grill – so good!

    http://mybizzykitchen.com/2010/05/28/i-have-a-new-gym/

I also learned that those cedar planks that you used? They work best if you soak them overnight, otherwise they’ll burn before the fish cooks.

    Looks like a perfect weekend!

  53. September 14, 2010 5:16 pm

Love that you got the cedar planks going on the ‘cue. And even though I don’t like pumpkin, that pumpkin pesto still intrigues me!!

    1. Hmmm… thinking back the one thing that really sticks out is the Simply Protein Oatmeal I had for breakfast on Sunday. Love me some oatmeal with the protein already in it :)
