a day in the life: sarah s.

July 1, 2010

hello! a few notes regarding my last post:

  • SO MANY of you haven’t tried any type of curry! that is just not right. a lot of you said you haven’t tried it because you don’t like spicy food.. but you must know that curry does not equal spicy. there are sweet curries and mild curries.. so many curries out there! so give one a shot :)
  • i failed to mention that LASAGNA is sooo much better the next day. thanks to HEABs for pointing that out. i dare say that is the best leftover meal on the planet.
  • several of you asked about the bottle. i purchased my iced coffee bottle at target. $9.99. tons of colors.
  • thank you for the sweet words about me in my pushup photo! lots of you didn’t know what bridals were. i don’t know about everywhere else in the world, but around here.. the bride gets all dolled up in her gown and does a photo shoot. not sure exactly why, but it’s just what people do! then you use the photos to display at the wedding. hmmm, typing that out sounds pretty self-centered, but it was fun :)

well, it is guest post thursday! i recently became friends with today’s poster, sarah, through blogging.  i have since realized she is one of the most hilarious people around.  she writes a blog called the adventures of online dating.  check it out!  sarah used to have a food blog and she misses food blogging so she offered to do a day in her life so i could feature it here on meals & moves. she recently started body for life so i am stoked that her day of eats is something i can relate to :)

hope you enjoy her rambles!

Hello friends! My name is Sarah and you might remember me from my blogging past!

image

I used to have a little blog called “Live Laugh Love” that I wrote during my senior year of college but gave up once I became so busy with the “working world”. Not a day goes by though that I don’t miss blogging in some way. I miss all the great friends I’ve made and in a weird way I miss photographing all my food! So when I saw that Janetha is doing “a day in the life” I thought it would be a perfect way to rekindle my food-blogging love. I actually do have a blog right now but it has nothing to do with food! It’s about the great, awkward, hilarious stories that come from online dating! It’s: the adventures of online dating and is still pretty new but check it out if you want a good laugh!

Ok, so let’s go!

HOLY CRAP guys, if you spin and do not have a pair of these- GO BUY THEM. Seriously, it made all the difference in the world! Rather than using the momentum of your body weight to just push the pedals down, you really have to push down and pull up, engaging your whole leg and core. It was so much harder! My legs were like lead by the end, something that hasn’t happened to me in the 2 years since I’ve started spinning! So fun and hard—I hope my quads are sore tomorrow! After a nice long stretch, the final stats were: 1:14:11 516 cals, 167 max, 141 ave. Great workout!

image

Then I showered and made myself all pretty for work, and got caught in a downpour on the walk to the office! Boo.

Then it was time for breakfast! Apple Protein Cake (great recipe by the lovely Janetha) and some yogurt. So good.

image

Also, every day I take my vitamin and drink 3 of these bottles of water (72 oz total).

image

I also get a Venti Starbucks every morning—can’t live without my coffee!

And I did the whole 8-5 thing. Nothing fun or exciting to report there! I sit at a desk all day. Don’t worry though, because of the insane amounts of fluids I drink I’m up walking around to go to the bathroom at least once an hour!

I normally have a snack in the morning, which was supposed to be an apple with a tablespoon of Almond Butter (yes, that pathetic little tiny blob is a whole T. I would like to think my food scale is lying to me but unfortunately my “eyeballing it” is what’s wrong…) I buy Trader Joe’s Almond Butter with Flaxseed and it’s the best around! (janetha here.. i can vouch for that!) It’s crunchy and fabulous.

I was stuck in meetings all morning so just ate it with my lunch, which was eaten at my desk (too much work! Ugh!) I also had a big old salad with tuna and cottage cheese. Guess who I learned the cottage cheese as dressing trick from! Yep, meals & moves is basically my bible.

image

Afternoon snack time came later in the afternoon (I swear my coworkers must think that I am always eating! But I am following the Body–For-Life Plan right now and it tells me to eat 6 times a day! So I do!) was a pure protein bar. This flavor is one of the best in my opinion because it doesn’t have that sticky caramel mess and it’s not so hard that I break a tooth! Also the ratios are just what I need for BFL! (40% carbs/40%  protein/20% fat)

image

I also sit literally right next to the snack table where there are always, always, always treats and a HUGE container of pretzels from Costco. As hard as I try, it is inevitable that I have a handful or two throughout the day.

image

After work and errands (and another iced coffee…) I came home for the best meal of the day!

While I was home at my parents’ house this weekend I took advantage of their nice kitchen (the one in my apartment is awful!) and made some meals to bring back with me for the week. Tonight I had Cashew Chicken Quinoa that I made from the current issue of Clean Eating Magazine. It was fabulous!

image

The best part about working out in the morning is that nights are free to veg out and seriously relax. So that’s exactly what I did after dinner. Well, after packing all my many meals and snacks for tomorrow! I read some blogs and watched my very favorite show- Law and Order SVU! I am so addicted! Love it!

Well, thanks for reading! And thank you Janetha for letting me guest post! Have a great day everyone!

**********************************************************************************************

thanks sarah! i am so into your meals & moves. i don’t go to spin class often but i love the calorie burn that comes with it. i had no idea they made special shoes for spin class! that’s cool.

  3. July 1, 2010 6:48 pm

Awesome post! Love that she got to rekindle her food blog flame! :)

I eat around 4-6 meals most days!

  4. July 1, 2010 6:53 pm

If I ever get into spinning, I am definitely looking into some of the spinning shoes! I love the classes so much, but currently don’t belong to a gym where one is offered.

  5. July 1, 2010 7:46 pm

    1. I eat 5 times per day too, 6 if you count my toast and jam in the morning before I run.
    2. I love unwinding with a magazine and a dog in my lap.

  6. July 1, 2010 7:51 pm

Um, best guest post ever. I love you both! I LIVE for the Trader Joe’s PB&flax… seriously best ever. I FINALLY located one jar of the AB, after checking three stores. Can’t wait to try.

    I eat… a lot. More than 5x a day!

Lately I’ve been working in the evenings, but I had the night off tonight and the boy was out so I vegged in bed watching TV and catching up on blogs. Not bad.

  7. July 1, 2010 8:56 pm

Uhh, yeah… I definitely eat at least 5 or 6 times a day. And yes, my coworkers do comment on this. Often! I once actually left work early becuase I was so hungry I was afraid I might eat my own arm if I stayed until 5 o’clock. Haha!

  8. July 1, 2010 9:20 pm

I eat four times a day.
HUGE breakfast, snack, dinner & dessert. I sometime skip my snack if I eat breakfast late.

My night is pretty casual. I always get offline at 9pm & just chill until 10:30-11pm
I don’t even have my tv set up since moving.

I try to eat at least 4 meals per day..my track record hasn’t been the best.

My night is similar to yours (in the dog department) minus the blog and a Marshall. No blog but I have a Ben instead of a Marshall. He is currently driving to Pittsburgh and I hope to meet him there in a few months. So now it’s dogs, baking and friends..

ps- since I’m in Vegas and that’s the closest trader joe’s I can send you some curry sauce should you ever need it or anything else from there.

    Hey,
great guest post. I totally love the “a day in the life of” series. If you ever need somebody to guest post one of these let me know ;-)
Now on to the Qs. I cannot say how often I eat per day. May family would probably say it’s easier to count the times I don’t eat! But I do try to stick to 3 big-ish meals a day. I work as a nurse so don’t have time for in between snacks, so I eat before work, one meal at work and then one when I get home. But since I’m one of those ppl that get snacky in the evening I usually have a snack right before going to bed and something to munch on while watching TV or reading blogs (which always makes me want something to snack on..). I also enjoy reading books, usually the romantic ones where you don’t have to think too much ;-)

SARAH!!!!!!! OMG i was JUST facebooking stalking you the other day….:D I’m sooo glad you are doing so well and so successful with your job and life! And your blog sounds hilarious, I cannot wait to read it. XO so good to get an old school food blog post from u! :)

  12. July 2, 2010 5:18 am

That blog sounds fun. I’ll have to check it out. I eat about 5 meals a day give or take.

Doing BFL, I eat about 5-6 times a day (mostly 5, because I get a late start!) I didn’t notice how much it has helped my metabolism until one day I *didn’t* get to eat within 2-3 hours and I was ravenous! I like my schedule now:)

To relax I love to either read books or blogs on the couch next to hubby while he’s either watching World Cup soccer or playing Forza. That way I can at least be next to him while I’m reading:)

  14. July 2, 2010 8:49 am

My body’s natural rhythm is to eat 5 or 6 times a day. I have made a conscious effort to alter what I eat during those meals. I have made my “3 square meals” slightly smaller while making my snacks larger that way I am on a schedule like a baby is on a schedule…every 3 hours to the dot!

I like to unwind at night with a good book, knitting, puppy/kitty cuddles and most importantly my husband!

  15. July 2, 2010 8:54 am

On a typical day, I have 5-6 meals… and some times it feels like I’m always eating, but I’ve found that this works best for me. Seems like about ever 3 hours, like clockwork, the tummy start to rumble.

My fav ways to relax in the evening… let me count the ways… hahaha. These days, most evenings are spent first cooking Brian and I dinner… and of course phtographing it for blog purposes. After dinner we usually sit down at our gaming stations (yes, I said gaming stations… I wish I could post a picture!) and fire up some battle field bad company 2 on our pc’s and lay the smack down for a good couple of hours until it’s time to watch some Bravo or Discovery Channel shows till bed time ;)

  16. July 2, 2010 9:51 am

I usually eat about 5 times a day, depending on what I’m doing. It’s usually breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. If I’m going to be doing several activities in the evening, snacks might be broken in half so I have sustained energy after each activity.

If only Marshall rhymed with dogs and blogs, that would be funny! For me, relaxing comes in several different forms. During the week, it’s swimming a practice and on the weekends it’s doing anything on my balcony (stretching, reading, napping, eating). My balcony has a beautiful view of the foothills in CO!

  17. July 2, 2010 10:06 am

During the week I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning snack and sometimes afternoon snack. On the weekends I eat a lot less…like breakfast/brunch and dinner.

  18. July 2, 2010 10:16 am

I love the idea of Bridals! And those pictures are going to make for great memories. :D

Usually I’ll eat 6 times a day. Three meals, three snacks. :D

And my favorite way to relax would probably be going for an after-dinner walk, followed by journaling and then crashing with a good book on the couch in my p.j.’s. Love it. :D

I generally eat 6 times a day. Usually 1 more time if it’s a strength day.

It’s usally bfast #1 and #2. lunch, snack, dinner, snack. My bfast #1 is usually a latte, so I guess you could count that as a snack too, but I call it breakfast #1.
