flashback friday: mexico.

April 9, 2010

hello and welcome to the weekend! hope everyone is smiling and the sun is shining wherever you are. i know that i am happy to finally get a little sun here in salt lake city after a rather dreary week of snow/rain/hail/etc.

did you all enjoy yesterday’s installment of guest post thursday? i hope so! and if you haven’t checked it out yet, make sure you read ildie’s guest post!

so i have had a lot of things go on between wednesday and today! because it would be ridiculous to ramble about all of it, i bring you just the highlights!

highlight #1: oats, glorious OATS

i have had a couple bowls of delicious protein oats~

maple chocolate peanut butter protein oats!

IMG_9484

1/3 cup oats + 1 scoop chocolate EAS protein + 1 TB mighty maple PB

IMG_9485

~329 calories, 11g fat, 27g carbs, 33g protein

PB&J vanilla protein oats!

IMG_9590

complete with coffee from the boy! thanks babe!

1/3 cup oats+1 scoop vanilla EAS protein+1 TB sugar free smuckers+2 TB prepared PB2

IMG_9592

~303 calories, 7g fat, 30g carbs, 34g protein

side note: i really want some peanut butter flavored protein powder! do they make it? do you guys know a good brand?

highlight #2: BLONDIES for the office

IMG_9480

i used angharad’s blondie recipe on wednesday night to make some blondies to bring to work with me on thursday! instead of cherries, i added coconut, white & dark chocolate chips.

i had the itch to do some baking, but unfortunately body for life does not let me eat as many sugary baked goods as my heart desires.. hmm.. solution? bake anyway and let other people enjoy the goods!

IMG_9481

i usually bring in a treat according to the national food holiday and on thursday it was actually national empanada day but i wrote this sign to justify the situation~

IMG_9482

gooey, delicious.. these babies were almost all gobbled up by noon! definitely a hit!

highlight #3: lunches have been TASTY!

lunch number one was this mondo salad with a slew of protein: cottage cheese, hard boiled egg whites AND garbanzos! with EVERYTHING else i had in the fridge!

IMG_9490

~314 calories, 8g fat, 30g carbs, 32g protein

lunch number two was a wrap with scrambled egg whites, ground turkey, laughing cow, ketchup and avocado.

IMG_9601

~307 calories, 11g fat, 29g carbs, 31g protein

best part about both lunches?? THE AVOCADO.. makes everything better!!

highlight #4: house renovations have officially STARTED!!

IMG_9585

i still need to do a video of the casa, but here are a few photos of us tearing up the living room carpet and base boards to prep it for tile!!

IMG_9550IMG_9582

the biggest project will be transforming this not so good looking kitchen!!

before.. “wah, wah, wah” (right allison?!)

IMG_9519

IMG_9516

i can’t wait for the AFTER photos.

highlight #5: guess what is on SALE!

so! i had to go to sunflower market to purchase fifty two izze sodas:

IMG_9588

side note, this is for my niece’s birthday party saturday! her name is isabella and goes by IZZY.. and it turns out there is a drink with her name on it! lucky girl.. i wonder if anyone will ever invent JANETHA drinks?!

on to the highlight.. CHOBANI ON SALE FOR 99 CENTS!

IMG_9498

you better believe i stocked up.

guess what was also on sale???

IMG_9500

kombucha is only $2 right now. HOLLER. i bought five of these dudes in various flavors! five for the price of two and a half?! yes, please.

highlight #6: i WON averie’s giveaway!!!!

image

yessss, i have been longing for a baby food processor for the times i am too dang lazy not able to bust out the full sized one.. and i won! i really won! so happy :D THANKS AVERIE!

that is it! the highest of the lights between the last time we talked and right now. hope you have been having some highlights of your own!!

however.. i do have two LOWLIGHTS to share with the class.. :(

lowlight #1: the person we arranged to MARRY us at the wedding has to go out of town for work and won’t be around on our wedding date! NOOO! he was perfect! he said there is a 3% chance he will be here. so i am asking everyone to cross your fingers, say some prayers and send good vibes so that 3% window expands into 100% :P THANKS!

lowlight #2: my belt broke! what the? it is pretty old.. i used to wear it snowboarding and it has taken a lot of wear & tear.. so i guess today it had just had enough and it broke!

IMG_9604

RIP, volcom puzzle belt!

IMG_9607

at least the HIGHLIGHTS have outweighed the LOWLIGHTS, right? right!

flashback friday!!

last year at this time i went to mexico with my company.. much like the trip to jamaica this year, it was a trip to reward us for our hard work!

here is the story.  *usually* they plan the trip very far in advance and go in february.  BUT, because the economy was crap last year, they planned to NOT take a trip.  THEN.. come the middle of march, they decided we needed to take a trip anyway, so a last minute mexico getaway was planned!  about 2 weeks before leaving.  sooo, marshall was invited to go because i was able to invite someone to take with me. BUT, mister marshall did NOT have his passport nor did he have time to get it.. well, he could have paid lots of $$$$ to get it, but then he would have also had to take time off from work (unpaid) and he just decided the responsible thing to do was sit this one out. (SAD janetha b.)

so anywho, a gal i work with ended up going solo as well because her husband could not get the last minute time off either.. so we ended up staying in a room together and it all worked out! i would have liked to have marshall there, but it was still a great time. i mean, it was a free, all-inclusive trip to mexico.. what is not to love about that??

SO. we went to playa del carmen, mexico which is right HERE:

image

and we stayed at the iberostar all inclusive resort.. which was lovely.

here are some photos of the trip! sorry that it is just basically photos of ME and SIM (my co-worker).. that is how the cookie crumbles!

I love Mexico! I’d like to be there right now.

    1. I get to sleep later than 6 a.m. tomorrow. You have no idea how pumped I am about this.
    2. Hmmm… There’s already a beer named after me – Beck. Hellz yeah.

  3. April 9, 2010 2:09 pm

A cocktail? I love it! Um, maybe not a cocktail, but a red wine named after me, that makes so much more sense. hell, i’d love a whole vineyard named after me!
it’s been a pretty tame week. Probably starting to househunt for moving back to Boston and starting to research baby stuff were the highlights. I’m so lame, I know! have a great weekend, it looks like you have a lot of fun coming up!

    • April 9, 2010 2:09 pm

Highlight in my life right now? Oh I don’t know. That my family loves each other so much and that we take care of each other. :)

    Maybe coffee! :)

  5. April 9, 2010 2:19 pm

Highlight – I’m went back to school in January and I am just remembering how great my program is and how happy I am that I got this opportunity to change my life!

Drink – if they were going to name a tea after me it would be a black tea for sure. I think they should change Awake (Tazo tea) to Kate, it by far my favourite!

Good luck with all the renos!! I was wondering about your fridge, stove and microwave…they are beautiful! Are they as nice in person?

  6. April 9, 2010 2:21 pm

A highlight in my life right now is that I’ve been on spring break all week long!! I got tons of spring cleaning and errands done. AND, I’ve almost completed my 2nd week of BFL and I’m LOVIN it!! :)

I would want my drink to be a fruit punch flavored sparkling water!!

  7. April 9, 2010 2:21 pm

Your new kitchen looks HUGE! What a nice place it’s going to be. :)

My highlight is going to be tomorrow’s long bike ride! I MUST get to training for Reach the Beach. It’s a month away! :)

  8. April 9, 2010 2:36 pm

Ah, the joys of home-ownership! Let the fun begin!!! LOL!

Highlight in my life – having the balls to register for my first 5k, this Sunday!! Eeep! Scared and excited!

My drink would be a super thick and creamy protein shake! I used the gums for the first time today and my world has become shiny and new – I guess that’s another life highlight, yay me!

They do make PB protein powder, but I’ve never tried any so I don’t know how good they are – guess that wasn’t really any help to you, sorry ;)

  10. April 9, 2010 2:50 pm

glad the blondies were a hit! My office also devoured my batch before midday. Ha.

Highlights? Does it count that today is Friday?! Ok, how about that I have a glorious week of friends (beer and tater tots tonight!), yoga, running, biking, and shopping planned? and a big space of nothing to do saturday (my favourite!)

No doubt I would have some sort of english tea named after me…predictable, right?

    Have a BRILLIANT weekend! xxx

How cute is your houndstooth bikini in the flashback photos? Love it!

  14. April 9, 2010 3:16 pm

Man, I hope the marrying guy works out. I guess the proper term is officiant, but I like marrying guy.

My highlight is that it’s Friday afternoon and I have no plans for the weekend. This makes me very happy.

I’m not sure what my drink would be. But my friend Joan always orders a vodka soda with a splash of cranberry at bars and Jason and I have taken to calling that drink “The Joan.”

  15. April 9, 2010 3:21 pm

a drink named after me would probably be “FIZZY BIZZY DIZZY LIZZY” I’m such a coffee-lover though so I don’t know how that name would fit! :)
I heart you sissssta! and I hope your weekend keeps on being filled with POSTITIVES!!!

hmmm sadly I can’t think of a high right now. I’m pretty bored. OH except I’m going to Disney world again within 2 months yay!

mmmm I really need to try the mighty maple pb.. Where do you buy it?

  39. April 9, 2010 11:58 pm

Yum! your meals look so yummy! Okay, little update on the BFL. I am CRAVING the gym! But, I can’t go until Monday. :( I have dance nationals this weekend. I feel so lazy! Grrr. I think I am doing some yoga at home tomorrow morning before I leave, though…so that should ease my frustration a little bit. I also bought some great items at the grocery tonight. I got cottage cheese, Dannon Greek Yogurt (they didn’t have any other good brands in plain flavor..I will have to check Kroger on Sunday), egg whites, Joseph Lavash wraps (only 100 cals, 10g of protein, and only 14 carbs!), avocado (your salad has me drooling!), a new protein bar find, Zone brand I think..and a few other things. I can’t wait to get this started. I am still indulging a bit this weekend. I am trying to get rid of things that I have on hand that aren’t BFL approved. What to do with so many cereals and such? What did you do when you first started?

  40. April 10, 2010 12:56 am

Hi Hottie!!!!! Thanks for posting about your win, I am so excited it’s going to a “good home” LOL. Speaking of which, home renov’s..yeah, not so fun. The results are worth it though! You are gonna pimp that pad up into a House Beautiful spread, i know it!

Highlights…ummm the fact that i am gonna whip this body into fitness competitor shape and being stoked about it!
    xo

  41. April 10, 2010 4:36 am

OMG… I FOUND EAS POWDER HERE!!!! I am using mine up first, but I was so excited. I wanted to text you or something. There is an amazing peanut butter protein powder but I can’t remember the name. Have just FB’d my friend and will get back to you pronto! Ha- she just replied. It’s PB chocolate though: http://www.wheygourmet.com/ Good stuff.

Sorry about your belt- DON’T THROW IT AWAY! I used to have a denim bag made from old jeans (like, cut the legs off and sew it so it’s got the pockets, ect on the bag and the waistband has a zip all around it for the bag). ANYWAY, the straps can be made from a belt and look really cool.

Highlights in my life: OMG I LOVE MY GYM SO MUCH. I want to live there.
A drink named after me would be a cocktail with chocolate vodka, peanut butter vodka (had both- not a vodka fan but they make awesome drinks) vanilla ice cream and cream soda blended together into a thick chocolate peanut butter McDonalds-esque cocktail.

Yay on the Greek yogurt and Kombucha sale. Woo hoo!!!

Whewee! Busy weekend for you. Loved the flashback. Travel flashbacks are so fun. I love going back to that time. If only we could REALLY go to our travels though.

And awesome score on the sale items. Those are some great bargains.

You sound so busy! I always enjoy looking back at old photos and remember how fun the old times were!

Love the blondies and the pretty avocado on your salad! Highlight of my week was my ultramarathon today :) Lowlight (even though you didn’t ask for it, I still feel the need to share, lol) was having to walk around telling people why they should buy the new nike air shoes for hours at a time. I HATE selling stuff, but I did get a bunch of free running clothes…

I LOVE your house – it’s SOOOOO CUTE! Jay says we should come out for a weekend to help you all renovate (he does hardwood/laminate floors – member) but also everything else LOL.

I can’t wait to see the Teddy Bear Party – so cute!

Hope you are having a fun weekend – sounds like it.

    xoxo ~ Me
