bits and pieces.

February 25, 2010

friends! how is life? mine is crazy but i love it. i hope you can say the same :)

i have all sorts of random stuff to talk about today, bear with me and my crazy mind.

let’s take it from the top and start with breakfast, shall we?

meals

 IMG_7048

the return of the parfait a la k in a bowl!  1 cup oikos, 1 multibran vita (with the raisins picked out.. i hate them), handful of nature’s path flakes for crunch, and the last tiny drop of my mighty maple :( IMG_7050

time to get more mighty mapes! i love the bran vitas way more than the chocolatey ones. i am usually a savory person over sweet, so maybe that is why?

all mixed up.

IMG_7052

this fantastic yogurt mess probably clocked in around 350 calories. usually would be more but it was only a little bit of peanut butter.

speaking of calories, check out this awesome website that shows you how much bang you can (or can’t!) get for your calorie buck…

i cannot for the life of me remember who told me about the website.. but if you are reading.. thanks!

300 calories:

wow. real eye opener, no? i think i prefer my BIGGER, healthier meals.. thanks.

while we are on the subject, here is another little bit of info~ a similar website that shows you how much of something you can eat for 200 calories:

all photos represent 200 calories and all plates are the same size:

broccoli

apple slices

jack in the box chicken sandwich:

snickers:

i love visual stuff like this. i don’t count calories, but i do love to check up on them every now and again. sometimes i am surprised by what i learn!

let’s see.. what else? how about lunch? ok.

IMG_7054

sabra! it makes my life taste good. okay, i did have a few things to go with it.

IMG_7055

when i eat arranged snack plates like this, i think of these two ladies. and i smile.

protein! chicken and turkey..

 IMG_7057

veggies! broccoli, carrots and cauliflower..

IMG_7058

dippage! classic sabra…

IMG_7056

good stuff.

i picked up my car today. i guess the air pump something or other was all jacked up. the warranty covered about $900 of it, subaru covered $360 of it and i was left with $360 out of pocket. i guess i shouldn’t cry about it.. but there are a LOT of things i could spend that $360 on that don’t involve air pumps for subarus. just sayin.

more bits.. more pieces.

bridesmaid dresses!

which do you like better? not the color.. just the style.

(disregard the cheesy ladder)

one:

image image

two:

image image

three:

image image

i think i like #2 the best but unfortunately it doesn’t come in all the colors i need. but i might be able to change up the colors for the sake of the dress. we shall see.

the cool thing is, if i get one of these dresses~ the guys can get tuxedo vests to match. which is dope.

and want to know what is even more dope?

matching flip flops.

imageimageimageimage

rad.

anyway. that is what is on my wedding mind tonight. along cakes. houndstooth cakes. yes.. it will happen.

in other wedding planning news, we have a tasting apointment with a caterer on saturday and i have my first dress appointment on monday. as usual, food before fashion :) you guys know how it is!!

IMG_7065

and now i am rambling. and talking to dude roommate who is stretching about the fact that i can’t touch my toes. and have never been able to in my whole life.

not ever.

total failure.

while on the topic of roommates, dudette roommate started a blog. right here! hi ceza :)

dang.. what other bits and pieces have i left out? let me think..

oh! tomorrow is my biggest sister’s birthday! but in reality, she is actually the littlest. she is either my same height or shorter than me (which is it? you’re not taller, are you, ree?)  anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARISA! I LOVE YOU!

tomorrow is ALSO national chili day. mmmm.. i think i may have to celebrate that one~ topped with a dollup of oikos and paired with a golden corn vitatop. heaven.

well i think that is enough bits and pieces for you to work with for now. be back tomorrow for flashback friday! only i have no idea what i am going to flash back to.. any requests?

Qs~

1. can you touch your toes? surely i am not the only one in the world who can’t…

2. what is your favorite kind of chili? i love pumpkin chili with lots of cumin.

3. i just realized that i asked a whole bunch of questions throughout this post. feel free to answer all those ones instead of the first two. actually, please do :)

xo. janetha b.

oh, p.s., i haven’t read blogs all week. forgive me.

I LOOOVE the visual representation! It makes the Snickers and JAck in the box burger look SO sad :(. It’s great to realize that I actually do find myself looking at the apple and wanting to eat it instead of the junky stuff.

As far as the dress goes, I like #3!

    1. I can’t. I can do the splits in all 3 ways (left right and middle) but I Cant touch my dang toes. I blame it on an inflexible lower back. I injured it back in the day and its been tighter ever since.

  2. February 25, 2010 10:10 pm

WOW that is soo crazy about the calorie thing!! seriously! i think it is super interesting too. i am a volume eating so i would def chose the broccoli over that darn snickers bar..but chocolate is SOO good!!

i like the 3rd dress! great for a warm wedding :)

    1. YES!
    2. white bean chicken chili!

    love you boo!

  3. February 25, 2010 10:14 pm

    Great visuals!

I like dress # 1 best. (But that’s mainly because I’m always uncomfortable in a strapless dress. #2 is very pretty, too. And I also like #3. I guess, I’m not much help…).

Love Sabra hummus. I have to pick some up again! :)

    Those visual representations are wonderful!

I love the second dress, but I am a big fan of strapless and not everyone is.

I could never touch my toes. Didn’t really ever think I would be able to. BUT, I have been doing Pilates about twice a week for about the last 6 months and finally last week I TOUCHED MY TOES! Major accomplishment for me – regular stretching/Pilates/Yoga and I bet you could too! :)

I love visuals like that! Makes you think, doesn’t it? Problem is with me, when I get a plate of the unhealthy food, I shovel so quick my stomach doesn’t even see it coming. Much better to do that with bigger healthy meals, or else I’d eat 4-5 servings of the crap meal!

If not the second dress, than the third. I love halters…but I guess it really depends on the body shape of your girls, one is the most universally flattering one if you have a range. But I like three.

I get upset if I lose my stretch and can’t wrap my hands around my feet! I’m pretty flexible considering I don’t do yoga regularly.

  6. February 25, 2010 10:29 pm

I love your placemat, and I like the first dress the best!

  7. February 25, 2010 10:36 pm

i agree with the commenter above me, that placemat is awesome! and i vote for the purple. love that your bridesmaids will be wearing flip flops, you cool kid you. haha you picked out the raisins, typical. natl chili day?? omg! i don’t know if i’ve told you this already but i recently became OBSESSED with chili, i’d only had it 3 times in my life but on super bowl weekend i had some amazing veggie chili and my life has been changed forevr. i hope i remember to celebrate manana!

  8. February 25, 2010 10:37 pm

I love that you posted these food comparisons I think it is really an eye-opener. And if I may my favourite bridesmaid dress is the second one :)

  9. February 25, 2010 10:51 pm

    Awesome visual representations!

I like dresses 2 and 3. The strapless or the halter.

Yes, I can touch my toes.

  10. February 25, 2010 11:57 pm

I used to be able to touch my toes but since hurting my back I definitely can’t at the mo! Breakfast looks so tasty! x x

Long time reader, first time commenter. I love your dedication to your blog. I personally prefer the 3rd dress and I have always been able to wrap my hands around my feet.
T’m definitely a volume eater so seeing the comparisons is awesome, thanks!

  12. February 26, 2010 12:23 am

Oh that website looks right up my alley :) Love stuff like that!

My vote for the bridesmaid dress is #1. Classic style and I bet it would be flattering on a lot of different figures.

Oh, and Matthew was happy when I read him your questions today. He can’t touch his toes either ;)

  13. February 26, 2010 12:25 am

I REALLY like dress #3, super cute and definitely one that girls could re-wear. I have actually been looking for something like dress #1 for my wedding- would you mind sharing where you found it? It is kinda similar to my dress, so thought it would be cute to coordinate with my bridesmaids.

    Enjoy the tastings!
    ~Christie

  14. February 26, 2010 1:53 am

the 1st dress, in purple b/c for those that NEED To wear a bra or want to, it’s the easiest to get the girls under wraps with :)

thank you for your email today…I reorg’ed my reader. I actually omitted things and added others, but not it’s totally alphabetized and if i want to click thru, i will, and if i dont, i wont. part of my issse was my reader had gotten these weird sections in it, and i didnt know how to un-do them so i just kinda started over and i have lots in there but like you, it’s def divided into my own little “categories”. you helped me sooo much today :) thank you!

can i touch my toes? you mean while balancing on my forearms with my legs wrapped behind my head? yes. I can. :) sorry to be a smartass but i had to! xoxo

    I can touch my toes… heheh…
    same chili as your favorite
nice comparing meals… eyes opening definitely!

  16. February 26, 2010 3:51 am

Wow that calories thing really shows a lot. Who would just want to have a little portion when you can have a bigger plate of yummy food; you’re parfait looks amazing by the wayy! I haven’t tried vita tops everyone always eats them ill have to pick them up and try! For dresses I would say number three! It is very flattering looking, what colors were you thinking? I can’t touch my toes! And my favorite type of chili is just having it plain with brown rice or with blackbeans in it ! :)

  17. February 26, 2010 4:32 am

I LOVE the second dress! It is so cute, and I actually like the color too. Hopefully you can work something out!

I can touch my toes. After 18 years of dance, cheerleading, teaching classes and doing fitness routines, I am flexible!! :)

I LOVE the part of your blog where it compares the 300 calorie foods. That’s what I’m always trying to stress to my clients – you don’t have to be hungry when you’re trying to lose weight!

I LOVE the fact that you don’t count calories! :)

    I LOVE your food pics… :)

All 3 dresses are really pretty to me – I can’t choose! I thought I’d throw this idea out there. I didn’t do it, but when I look back I probably would have if I’d thought about it. I was in my best friend’s wedding back in Aug 08 and she had all of her bridesmaids wear the same COLOR and LENGTH dress, but she had us choose our own styles. They were all from the same store and it was such a great idea, because one of the girls chose a halter top dress, which I don’t look good in, I chose a strapless and someone else chose a regularly strapped dress. It was great because we still looked uniform with the same length and color dresses, but we got to find dress styles that suited our bodies.

Not saying you have to do this – just an idea!

Remind me to tell you about my dream you were featured in last night…it was INSANE!! I’m sorry I don’t have time to type it out now! It was kind of funny though..

  19. February 26, 2010 4:38 am

Dress number 2 for sure! I can touch my toes but thats years of gymnastics and cheerleading so I am flexible, like Jessica said above! You need to video your wedding and put it online so your bloggies can watch. That would be COOL!! My bridesmaid has espresso colored dresses with flip flops. They looked the dress 2. Very versitile. Our lives are crazy, but I think that is normal these days. YEA for you for keeping sanity. haha!

    Hello Sexy Bride to be!!!!!!

Loving the calorie info!!!! I wish more peeps knew those stats!!!!

Ummmmmm I love hummus and am loving your lunch platter with it! Yum!!!!

Second Dress rocks!! Loves it ! Flip Flops are baller!!! Its hard to pick bridesmaids dresses that flatter everyone!!!

Yay for your dress appt !!!!! U might find the one that day, or it might take a couple more other places, I got my dress a month ago, Im not getting married til next year, but just knew it was the dress!! U will know too when u find it!!!! So exciting!!

Love ya girl!! Thanks for the comment on my blog : )

    1. Yep!
    2. I don’t discriminate when it comes to chili. I love it all!

  23. February 26, 2010 6:00 am

    #3 dress all the way!!
But #2 is the runner up

  24. February 26, 2010 6:05 am

    Ooh I like #3 the best…but they’re all adorable…!

I can touch my toes – lots of kiddie ballet I guess…um a chili day hurray! Since it’s a full on winter wonderland here I might just need to have some…my favorite is good old bean, beef and cheese!

  25. February 26, 2010 6:13 am

I like #2, but if not 2, #3! And I LOVE the idea of matching flip flops! I have always wanted that if my wedding was outside =D

I love those plates of food- you can get SO much more bang for your calorie (and nutritional!) buck with healthy foods!

I can touch my toes, but I have been doing yoga for many years and could not before!

And I LOVE white chicken chili!

My dad had a book like that site that he was obsessed with for awhile…I remember the pictures were totally 90’s though haha. I love dresses 2 and 3 the best!

I like any kind of veggie chili, with lots of avocado and salsa on top!

  27. February 26, 2010 6:44 am

    I like dress number 2!

  28. February 26, 2010 6:50 am

I’m definitely a volume eater!! I want my plate as full as possible for as little calories as possible thankyou :) Although, I must say, a teeny little Snickers for 200 calories is always worth it. I’m a sweet over savoury gal, can you tell? :P

Dresses: I also love #2. It’s a lot more “fun” for a July wedding. But #3 is my backup. Love the flip-flop idea too. Nicer to their feet while they have to awkwardly stand up front while you say your vows ;)

    1. No. I have crazy gazelle legs. I can barely fit them on a bus, let alone reach my toes.

    2. My mom’s vegetarian chili! She puts lentils, TVP and a whole whack of other goodies in it. It’s a different mix every time, but always just as good as the last.

    Happy Friday JB!!! xoxo

  29. February 26, 2010 6:54 am

ahhhhh wedding planning excitement!!! I LOVE IT! :)

im in love with dress #2. hands down my fav! then again, i’ve always like strapless for weddings.

i also can’t touch my toes unless i stretch for a reaaaaaallllly long time. which usually, after working out, i dont have the patience to do it. terrible, i know.

i love that you’re so busy with fun and exciting things! (well, wedding & house hunting at least :)) makin moves girlfren!

  30. February 26, 2010 6:59 am

I love all those dresses. Maybe you could get all three styles in the same color for your different ladies. Either way, I LOVE the flip flops! ANd love you. We need to catch up. xoxo

  31. February 26, 2010 7:14 am

I’m a visual person too. Thanks for the website.
    I like dresses 2 & 3. So cute!

  32. February 26, 2010 7:15 am

I love the dresses!!! I had five bridesmaids and I had them decide on the dress – 3 liked one and 2 liked another, so we did both dresses, but in two different colours! The groomsmen wore a corresponding tie/vest and the pictures look awesome! And this way everyone got to wear what they liked!!!

  33. February 26, 2010 7:39 am

Sweet website! And since I’m more of a volume eater as opposed to a density eater, I love being able to eat more for less calories!
I would go with dress #1 – I think it would be the most flattering on a variety of women. The flip flops are fabulous too!
Yes, I can touch my toes and I love white bean chicken chili.

  34. February 26, 2010 7:42 am

I like the first bridesmaid dress. Word of caution from my wedding, strapless dresses don’t always work well if the maids have larger chests. There were a lot of sizing issues with my strapless dresses. And it is definitely no fun to be pulling on your dress top all evening.

I loved the food comparisons. I have seen the one on Spark People before and it is definitely eye opening. Give me more food any day!

    Happy Friday!!!!!

  36. February 26, 2010 7:47 am

Visuals like that definatly makes you think when ordering and preparing food huh? I am currently learning to be a little more lax on the whole calorie counting bit, while maintaing that it’s about healthy food all together.

  38. February 26, 2010 7:57 am

    I LOVE the style of numero 3! It’s a halter..but with a twist. I loves it :D
I can touch my toes all day, but my hips are sooo tight!

  39. February 26, 2010 8:00 am

I think the styles of #2 and #3 are very similar. Maybe you can have #2 for the girls that have the chest to hold it up and #3 for the girls like me that don’t have the chest! :)

Love that you will have a houndstooth cake!

  42. February 26, 2010 8:15 am

I love #3. I kind of want to buy it myself. :)

And yes, I can touch my toes.

I gave you a super-duper award on my blog yesterday. :)

I actually really like option #3, but to be honest, I feel like it depends on the bridesmaids. Some body shapes and sizes look better in different dresses, if that makes sense. So I’d go with whatever is most flattering on the ladies.

I can sort of touch my toes. I can, but apparently not properly according to what I’ve learned through yoga – I compromise my spine a bit to do it. But I’m getting there!

usually i’m a lurker – but I gotta say all the dresses are so cute! Damn – I want to be in your wedding. You should see some of the dresses I’ve had to wear. I vote for dress #1. I like #2 the most from the front, but the back looks a little poofy, at least in the pic.

In grade school whenever we did the fitness tests, I could never do a single pull up or push up, but I dominated the sit and reach. I still do my splits at bars – it’s all I got – and I still can’t do pull up or real push up.

  48. February 26, 2010 8:57 am

I’m infatuated with that yellow dress. Seriously. If you don’t get it for your bridesmaids hit me up with the site cause I want it fo’ mahself! and the sandles are bomb. Uncomfortable shoes are totes overrated.

Option one or three- strapless doesn’t look good on everyone- option one looks good on everyone and they’ll probably wear it again if you get it in a reasonable colour (who needs reason when you get married)- depends on the theme..

Have you been to oncewed.com yet? you’ll love it!

  50. February 26, 2010 9:55 am

ohh i like dress 3!! We had that and the only problem was the girls with eh hem large girls

  51. February 26, 2010 9:59 am

I’ll take the raisins you don’t want!! ;)

LOVE all three dresses, but personally I think 2 and 3 would be really cute to wear and would work for a variety of different gals.

I’m definitely a fan of “checking in” on portion sizes every now and then, and I love visual website like that, it’s amazing to actually see some of those things compared!

    1. thanks to 14 years of dance, I can touch my toes. But if I don’t stretch regularly, it’s noticeable more difficult.

    2. my mom’s white chicken chili! So good.

  52. February 26, 2010 10:01 am

I love eye opening things like that too. And I like #2 and 3 for the dress options. #3 looks similar in style besides the halter, so if that comes in the colors you want it may be the better option. :)

  53. February 26, 2010 10:25 am

I love dress #3! I am a total volume eater, which is easy to fill up on with lots of fruit and veg. Some of those meals are ridiculous, like 900 calories for a restaurant omelette for breakfast. Because you know there’s toast+butter and orange juice on the side.

I love vegetarian chili with sweet potatoes. Or anything with sweet potatoes, for that matter!

I love dresses 1 and 3…mainly for the straps. I’m larger chested and can’t find a strapless dress that provides enough support for the life of me, so I tend towards the dresses with straps. I know weddings are all about the bride, but maybe think about the body-types of your bridesmaids? I would be annoyed if I saw mine walking around all night tugging at their bodices. :)

Nope, cannot touch my toes for the life of me.

  58. February 26, 2010 11:11 am

Love those websites! Thanks for sharing! It’s such an eye opener to realize which foods contain what, and how much more satisfying it is to eat healthy most of the time. :D

Oh, and I can finally touch my toes! It took a lot of yoga and stretching, but it was my goal for last year…haha. ;)

  59. February 26, 2010 11:17 am

I like #2 and #3 and I think you should do both of them. They look like different styles of the same dress. That way your bridesmaids can just go with whichever one works best for their body – strapless or halter.

I have never been able to touch my toes either. The other day I got the closest I ever have though! haha it was so exciting

I’m with you on #2–#1 is mehhh, typical, and #3 is likely the most flattering on all sizes and shapes and chests :)

  61. February 26, 2010 12:25 pm

Janetha B, I have NEVER been able to touch my toes and I have not read others responses but people are always shocked by this fact so we might be in the minority here!! I happen to have some of the tighest hamstrings on the planet and they do not allow for much bending! Ha.
Love the calorie-compare web site: it’s not something I do either (count) but I wish every ordinary joe could see those comparisons and realise that those “healthy” muffins they are eating for breakfast are actually making them fat! Frustrating that so few people know the real deal. Love you! xxx

Dress #2 fo sho! Love the flip flops too..awesome touch! Have a good weekend. :)

haha disregard the cheesey ladder–love that…and I love 2 and 3! the halter could be beautiful with the flip flops if 2 doesnt work, but I love them both! and love the matching flippersss is yoru wedding on teh beach?

never tried mighty mapes! i need to get some! my secret valentine got me dark chocolate dreams and I am working on that jar of pure CRACK seriously that stuff is a danger zone, but good thing is it super sweeet I can’t have too much in one sitting!

I just did a presentation on “eat this not that” at work and the results totally shocked people, especially the one that was “honey bran muffin vs ham, egg and cheese” both from dunkins (it was the eggwhich that was better) but lots of people saw ‘bran’ so they thought the muffin

    ok enough rambling…love you girl!

    1. I definitely like dress #2 the best. I also love the color, but that’s because I’m obsessed with green! I think #2 would look good in other colors as well. That said, I look horrible in strapless dresses even though I’m fairly average “up top”! So my question for you would be, do you think all of your bridesmaids would look good in a strapless dress? If not, I would vote for #1. This is probably way more of an answer than you expected, isn’t it!?!?! Sorry, those dress really got me going!
    2. I can usually touch my toes on a daily basis, unless my hamstrings are really tight, which is usually every other day, and then it’s more difficult.
    3. I’m SO excited that you told us its national chili day! I love chili and now I have an excuse to make it for dinner!!!! Thanks!
    4. Question for you: Have you tried the Cranbran Vitatops? Do you pick the cranberries out of those too?

I think you should pick dresses 2 and 3 and then you can get them all in the same color but have slightly different styles

I think I like the 3rd dress the best…I would have the hardest time deciding I’m so indecisive! The flip-flop idea is way cute too.

WOW those are adorable dresses. I think if I had to wear one, I’d pick 3 for the most universally flattering. I believe your wedding ambiance would be important to determine the dress too. Dress 1 is more formal, elegant, classic. Dress 2 and 3 are more fun – In other words Janetha-appropriate. Dress 2 is more flirty and casual, while dress 3 is in between formal and flirty. LOVE it. :)

And dude, THANKs for the links. Those are seriously interesting websites. perfect for killing time at work. MUHAHAHAHA

See, I love these posts so much, where we see how your beautiful mind flits about. LOVEEEEE.

OK, I’m all about dress three. A halter is the most flattering for most women. With the strapless, you have the issue of having your bridesmaids pull up their dressed throughout the ceremony, and the first one isn’t sexy enough. :D

Thank you for the snack plate shout-out!!! Love it.

    1. Yes I can, but it might be because my arms are so long that it would be hard not to.
    2. I made this super fiery three-bean chili at VN that I totes need to make again. Soooo good.

Hope you have a marvelous weekend. Love you!!

I like dress #2 the best as well. So pretty!

I’ve always been able to touch my toes. I can damn near wrap my whole hand over the top of my foot. I’m freakishly short in the legs I guess. HA!

I love all spicy chili. Doesn’t matter what it’s made with though I prefer with no meat or with “fake” ground meat. :)

    XO

I like dress no 1 best (but then I’m biased as that was the dress my Bridesmaids wore in September!!!) So excited that you like it too :)

Loved those visuals of portion sizes, stuff like that really sticks in my mind and helps me make better choices.

And no, I cam’t touch my toes either x

Hey Jo! I am actually looking for that dress for my October wedding- where did you find it?

Cool website! I am all about the volume:)
    I love pumpkin chili too.

  72. February 26, 2010 2:46 pm

Ooooh I love dress #2 & #3! Can I be green please? Oh and yay for matching flip flops! that rules. I <3 you & can't wait to celebrate your love tomorrow night : )

  73. February 26, 2010 3:27 pm

    Such a portion eye opener.

I think #3 is totally you and right for your maids. They will look sensational – without stealing the spotlight from you of course :)

Those pics were definetely a wake-up call – I never knew the size difference would be so HUGE!
Well, anyway – delicious eats, as always.
I don´t really like raisins, too. Haha ;)

Okay, I missed this by a little because my reader is backed up. But dress two is my favorite, followed by three and then one.

  77. February 28, 2010 3:55 pm

I love #2 but #3 would be my second pick. I think you should totally get a ladder as a backdrop for pictures, it’s just hot. And I love the houndstooth cake idea!

I can touch my toes and chili with with a variety of peppers, onions and mushrooms with faux ground beef is my fave.

  78. March 19, 2010 6:41 pm

I hear crickets. Hello? Hello? Where’d everybody go? Guess I’m late to the soiree as usual. :-(

I love those kinds of comparison photo thingys. There was a book a while back called volumetrics that did the same thing. Excellent.

Yes I can touch my toes- a dozen years of yoga does that to a person. Chile. You mean there’s more than one kind? Eek. I haven’t lived.!!

Love you. Reader’s a ZERO- HA you KNOW you MAAR’ed it dude!
