today has been such a good day and it is only 5:43.

December 23, 2009

hi!  sounds like you all have some super fun holiday traditions!! i loved hearing about them.  thanks for sharing those with me and a special thanks to those of you who de-lurked and decided to comment! that is always so rad. keep it up. i love hearing from you all.

so i am just sipping on some coffee and sitting by the fire.. still in my first layer and too lazy to move.  showering would probably be a good idea as would the gym.. but i decided to blog instead :D

so! today i woke up bright and early (at 7:45 AM on my day off~yes that is bright and early for me!).. drove to my house to change into my snowboard gear and managed to inhale some breakfast before my family picked me up to head to brighton.

blueberry chobs+faux honey bunches of oats

 IMG_0099 IMG_0100 IMG_0103

and then it was up to the resort!  it was really warm at first, even though it was lightly snowing.  my nieces (they are 8 and 6) had never been skiing in their lives and i was a little nervous about how they would do!  we suited up at the car~

IMG_0109IMG_0108

and the it was time to head to the lift!

IMG_0122 IMG_0120IMG_0116

we ended up taking about 4 or 5 runs on the bunny hill and they were doing awesome!  i was really surprised how quick they picked up on how to ski.  i guess it is true that the younger you are, the easier it is to learn.

IMG_0123

it was fun to see them learn but it was a pretty…slow…lift…  i kept myself entertained by taking photos.

that ninja on the left would be momma b.  lucy in the middle and you all know me.

IMG_0132

after awhile i ended up leaving them on the bunny hill so i could take some runs with my friends, jaime and ceza.  it was such a good day! soft snow and new tricks in the park.  i am bound and determined to learn some new stuff this season.  after i broke my humerus i kinda got worse at snowboarding because i was scared~but i think i am finally ready to step it up again.

around 1 PM i headed to the car to eat some foooood.  i had a nice, juicy pear~

IMG_0136

and a turkey sandwich made lovingly by my mom :)

IMG_0134

yum.

then it was back onto the mountain! my nieces decided they were ready to brave the bigger hill so we hit that lift up.  i was so proud!

IMG_0147

the “bigger hill” was a little scary for them at first but they ended up loving it and wanting to go again and again and again!  here are a few more photos~

marisa (my sister) and momma b goofing off with their poles :)

IMG_0140

by the way, i am not in this photo. i took it. IMG_0141

she is considering taking up a part time job as a ninja.IMG_0148

oh~there’s her face. kaylee is in the middle.

IMG_0160

you know what i love about snow?  the intricateness of snowflakes.  they are so beautiful and not a one is the same as the next!

IMG_0172

the snowflakes were extra incredible today.

on the way home i ate some fritos.. i was actually shocked to see that they only have 3 ingredients.  who knew?

 IMG_0174 IMG_0175

and i did grab some coffee on the way home.  and am sipping it now, as i mentioned.

when i got home i had all sorts of fun mail!  i can’t show you all of it because some of the parcels are christmas related.. but i can show you a couple thangs!

first up~ an amazing gift from april!

IMG_0178

she sent a cute card, some homemade banana bread and a mix to make her infamous dark chocolate muffins~such a cute idea!!

IMG_0179

the irony of it all is that i have been wanting to make her muffins.  i can prove it to you.  check out my “food to try” list in my blackberry:

IMG_0181

haha. yeah the list is not very long right now but whenever i see a recipe i want to make i add it to the list :) gotta love averie’s balls! THANK YOU april, you’re the sweetest! i just love you! and your abs. everyone should go check out this post of april’s :)

other fun mail? i won danica’s knock knock giveaway!

IMG_0182

yay! as you all know i am an avid list maker so this giveaway was so perfect for me :) cannot wait to start using these list pads! thanks danica, i love you!

other fun mail over the past couple days has been LOTS of awesome christmas cards~

IMG_0183

including ones from miss gliding calm, michelle, averie, holly, hayley, tiffany, one of my bestie’s in oregon (hi katie!) and a few from family.  there are some missing that i took to work and set out on my desk :) i just LOVE getting mail.  there is something so fun about getting snail mail~way cooler than email. thanks ladies! xoxo.

*****************************************************************

i decided now would be a good time for some product reviews!

cat at skin MD natural contacted me and asked if i would be willing to try their all natural shielding lotion.

IMG_0184

you guys.  i live in the desert and have super dry skin.  i was stoked to accept cat’s offer and try this stuff out!

here is a little something i read about the shielding lotion:

“Conventional lotions only add artificial moisture to the skin temporarily alleviating the dryness or itching, but these moisturizers don’t actually solve the problem, they only treat symptoms without eliminating the cause. Dry skin is unable to absorb the newly added moisture to allow repair – it does not get "locked" into the skin. It gets lost easily. That’s why we keep applying more and more of the conventional lotions. Even so, skin easily gets addicted and may even suspend production of it’s own moisture, relying on added moisturizer.”

ah! i love that!  they actually solve the problem of dry skin? sign me up.

IMG_0190

the only thing i didn’t love was the watery feel i got upon rubbing the lotion in.  i guess that it takes a bit longer to absorb than other lotions since it is a shielding lotion and not just a moisturizer.

IMG_0191

once my skin absorbed the shielding lotion it was smooth sailing.  that was a few hours ago and my hands are still silky smooth.  i also love the fact that this is all natural.. i usually go for natural foods and so why not a natural lotion? it just makes sense.

i think i just may go bathe myself in this lotion.  sure hope there is enough! ;)

thank you skin MD natural!  love your shielding lotion.

*****************************************************

up next? hall’s refresh mouth moistening drops

imageIMG_0205

mike from halls contacted me and asked if i would be interested in trying this new halls product.  i agreed and he sent me some samples.

no, these are not cough drops.  they are sugar free drops to moisten your mouth.  at first i was like.. hmmm.. i never have a dry mouth.  but then as i was snowboarding last sunday, i found myself with an extremely dry mouth.  and i was like shooooot! sure wish i had those dang mouth drops!

anyway, i tried them out today because i wanted to see just how well they worked.

IMG_0206

strawberry was the flavor.  they also come in refreshing mint and tropical wave. each drop is sugar free and has 6 calories a pop.

IMG_0217

i am not gonna lie.  as i was taking this photo, my tongue hit the mouth drop a bit and i actually started salivating and yep. a big line of drool came falling out of my mouth.  attractive, right?

the drops had a slight menthol flavor to them which i hated.  i am not a fan of that whole menthol taste.  but they really did their job!  my mouth is still watering actually.

i kind of agree with rose (check her review out here) when she mentioned that it may give kids the idea that popping a candy-like drop every time you had a dry mouth may confuse little kids.  but as far as adults go, i am sure we understand the concept and they definitely do their job!

for more on halls refresh you can check out their facebook page.

thanks for the opportunity to try these out, mike!  i will be stashing them in my snowboard pants this season, they will definitely come in handy.

*****************************************************

and i think this post is plenty long, seeing as how it is now 7:12 so it took me an hour and a half to write this!  in my defense, my laptop decided to act up on me which wasted a good 20 minutes. sigh.. it is a P.O.S.!

well i am going to do something with myself now!  toying with the idea of hitting up the gym but i am pretty beat from today.  i will be up early tomorrow to do some more snowboarding. maybe i will just head up to my mom’s house and enjoy the company of my fam :)

hope you are all having a great week and get some time to relax tomorrow since it is christmas eve!!  fun.  i have a mega menu of appetizers planned~it’s going to be delicious!

Qs~

1. do you use natural skin/beauty products? thoughts on natural vs. conventional skin/beauty products? discuss. i have never looked into natural beauty products but i have started to look into the matter more.  i like to put natural products INTO my body~so why not ON my body as well? makes sense.

2. is there anything on your “food to try” list? you don’t necessarily have to have a list.. but is there anything you have been meaning to try as of late?  in addition to my list up there, i have been wanting to try okra but cannot find it in stores around here! random, i know.

Yay I’m so glad you got your package! I was hoping it wouldn’t get lost in the mail! lol. And thanks for the shoutout!! haha.

Snowboarding is such a good workout! The first time I did it I couldn’t move the next day.. it works some crazy muscles!

I need to try Averie’s balls too! haha. Oh and your chia muffins!

  3. December 23, 2009 8:24 pm

I’m so jealous of your day of skiing! Looks like y’all had so much fun!

On my foods to try list…kale chips!!!

  4. December 23, 2009 8:26 pm

Hahah I make lists like that on my blackberry all the time – like what I plan to make/try, etc! Your day looks wonderful!!

  5. December 23, 2009 8:59 pm

Two things…I wish there was another reason to wear those cool goggles than being brave enough to ski AND I have NEVER seen a real snowflake with that kind of detail and it doesn’t even look like you used a close-up lens. Merry Christmas!

  6. December 23, 2009 9:24 pm

THANK YOU sooooo much for the ‘A’ mug. I drank my coffee out of this morning and posted it (of course). You are too kind. You should have seen me jump with excitement when I unwrapped the prezzie. You’re the best!!!

So jealous you are skiiing/snowboarding!!! We used to go all the time but we haven’t gone in years.

  10. December 23, 2009 10:03 pm

LOVE it! (How can I not – I got a linky and a card feature!)

Aren’t snowflakes amazing? When I first lived somewhere cold enough where there were individual flakes and not just blobs, the first ones I saw looked like teensy petaled flowers. I was freakin’ blown away! Yours look like snowflakes you cut out of paper!

Hello Skin MD – I need some shielding lotion. So glad to read you can use it on your face as I get snaky dry skin with thyroid fluctuations. I’ll be waiting by the mailbox.

Your family in all their gear is just too cute! Looks like everyone did great! I’m hoping to get Chris up a few times this year – I may just read in the lodge.

    Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

  11. December 23, 2009 10:28 pm

I use natural make-up ( Bare Minerals) and natural shampoo. There are a lot of foods I want to try! Most are blog recipes that require a dehydrator or food processor. Sadly, I have neither.

I think no-natural skin care products are more effective than natural ones and safer too because they’re tested in labs and regulated.
snow pictures made me miss skiing again!!! :D
have a lovely christmas eve sweetie!

  13. December 24, 2009 5:00 am

Snowboarding with the fam looked like a blast! Glad you are enjoying your time off.

Wishing you all things wonderful! Merry Christmas Janetha! May your day be filled with overwhelming love and joy.

    Love you girl!

  14. December 24, 2009 5:04 am

That snowflake picture is so cool!! I am fascinated by snowflakes. A day spent skiing with your family sounds like perfection!!! Can you believe I’ve never been downhill skiing or snowboarding? I used to cross-country ski, but never downhill, and it’s suuuuuper popular around here.

    1. I have really sensitive skin and I find natural products often irritate it! Strange, eh? I tried using the aluminum-free deodorant once and it literally burned my armpits off.

    2. Averie’s balls!! Particularly, the cookie dough ones (in my new food processor, obvi ;) ) and her PB cups. There’s also a few chili, muffin and cookie recipes that I neeeed to try after Christmas :)

Have a great Christmas Eve with the fam JB!!! xoxo

  15. December 24, 2009 5:42 am

    1. I try to use natural products when I can, I use Juice Beauty products on my face.

    2. Lots I have been meaning to try!
    -Kabocha squash
    -Sunbutter
    -Mighty Maple PB
    -Taco soup

Sooo many more I can’t think of now.

    Merry Christmas Eve!!!

Love the family photos!! Kids are fast learners.. I think I thought that skiing was pretty easy when I started.. I really can’t wait to go skiing!!

    1. I use a lot of natural products. They’re just better for me..

    2. Haha okras were on my list too until recently! I really want to try spaghetti squash but can’t seem to find it over here!

  17. December 24, 2009 6:21 am

Hmmm….innnnteresting! I have the worst cotton mouth all the time but I never knew it was common enough that they would create a “remedy’ for it like. that. I will have to check em out! Merry Christmas boo! xoxo

LOVE christmas cards, in fact, i just got YOURS yesterday! :) hahaha my boyfriend was like, you got a card from…the SLC? lol

I was like AH JANETHA! hahah such a cute photo! LOVE IT <3

i would loooove to make the switch over to all natural beauty products, shampoos, toiletries, etc…(my cousin is an avid organics only kind of person – which i admire) however, i just don't currently have the funds to warrant buying $10 shampoo. i need to be a millionaire :)

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!! xoxoxoxo

  19. December 24, 2009 6:51 am

Oh!!!!!!!!!!!! Such fab pictures- your family is too cute! So cool the kids liked the skiing- definitely way easier to learn when you are 1) young, 2) more fearless. Rock on!

    1. do you use natural skin/beauty products? thoughts on natural vs. conventional skin/beauty products? I like the idea but I have crazy dry skin so I generally get medicated and the natural/herbal ones seem to cause allergic reactions for some reason. E45 is my go-to in winter months! I generally just buy whatever is cheapest…products add up big time and I would rather spend my money on food.

    2. is there anything on your “food to try” list? YES! Lots of things- savoury oats is one of them, a real burrito and your vegan muffins.

i actually have a long list in my bberiz of places in nyc i wanna eat!

  21. December 24, 2009 8:00 am

Looks like you had a blast of a day! Glad you got your little nieces to come skiing with you:) That snowflake pictures is so pretty.
I had no idea fritos only had 3 ingredients either! Imagine that.
I try to use as many natural products as I can. Especially moisturizers and lotions since they seep into your pores and sit there all day.

  22. December 24, 2009 8:03 am

Although I don’t miss the cold. Seeing all your mountain posts really make me miss living in a place where I can ski. Needless to say, there’s not much skiing in GA.

  23. December 24, 2009 8:05 am

Those snowflakes are perfect! I don’t think our snowflakes look like that – I think they’re just big globs. Glad you had such a wonderful day!!

I have TONS of ‘to try/to make’ foods but I always forget to do it!

    1. I try to use as many natural products as possible, but it’s hard to do so on a budget.
    2. I really want to try tempeh and seitan, but I’m scurred!

One thing on my list to try is Kale. I just crossed off Spaghetti Squash (on my list forever) and I’m not addicted. Love the stuff!

Looks like you had an awesome time on the slopes.

    Happy Holiday’s!

  28. December 24, 2009 8:59 am

I can’t wait to go skiing! Hopefully next week :)

    1. do you use natural skin/beauty products? thoughts on natural vs. conventional skin/beauty products? discuss. I use some (coconut oil for skin) but I want to use more!

yay for fun times, product reviews and a stellar package from april – i got the same one, and am soooo excited for her baked goods. amazin’.

happy holidays and merry christmas my love – xoxoxox love you so much!

yes, i use natural products. i figure eating natural/putting natural thangs on your face is necessary.

must try list…its too long to name, really. SO MANY.

  30. December 24, 2009 9:32 am

    I love snowflakes too!!

I WANT to use natural products but I’m unemployed and money is tight and also most of that stuff takes a while to use up, so I just still have my conventional cheap unnatuaral stuff right now.

Food to try? KALE CHIPS. Nutritional yeast, but I have to find it first.

aw, what a wintery dayyyy. My parents always forced me in to skiing lessons when I was a tot. I have yet to master the bunny hill. I prefer staying in the lodge and drinking hot cocoa :)

aren’t those Halls refresh redic? My mouth is watering just thinking about then.

I have the driest skin of all time. I swear. Especially in the winter — the skin on my fingers are cracking and bleeding and yeah, it’s really attractive. I use some good ol’ fashion Jergens but I don’t think it works. lameface.

hope your Christmas Eve is full of smiles, J :)

  35. December 24, 2009 4:18 pm

I use stuff from the Body Shop because it’s mostly natural and I love their products. Although I have yet to find anything that sufficiently combats the winter dry skin. Sigh.

I’m glad you got to go snowboarding! Happy Christmas.

Love all of the snowy pics!! Fun :)

    1. I don’t use very many beauty products, and even when I do, I’m not very knowledgable when it comes to all-natural or not. But that lotion does sound great, and it’s definitely a plus if it’s good for the environment!

    2. I finally tried authentic Shrimp & Grits in New Orleans with my mom last weekend! AND I made risotto last week…soo I need to start a new list ASAP ;)

  38. December 25, 2009 11:39 am

    Love the insta-drool! Hilarious.

Yah, kids at that age don’t yet have the fear-neuron- I wished I had started skiing when I was young for that very reason.

Wow, I have never seen a snow flake- sooooo cool. Snowflakes, rainbow glitter? What’s not to love about snow- uh, yah that would be the cold :-) But with an appropriate snow bunny outfit, it’s all good!

Q: Skin stuff- I’m bad bad bad. I only just started using creams etc about 5 yrs ago. All the damage is probably done :-( Wah, will have to call the surgeon stat :-)

Q: I have 39 things I want to make. I’m on overload. Seriously.

Keep having fun, and of COURSE you can skip the gym when you snowboarded your face off!!!!

  39. December 25, 2009 4:33 pm

wow who knew fritos had 3 ingredients! they look to be a ‘clean food’ haha :) love seeing your ski/snowboard pics!!! so fun!

hahahaha OMG, i have a blackberry and thought i was the only one who had a bunch of lists on the memopad. I’m a list making kind of gal, so naturally i have lists and lists of the most random things. for instance… food to make, (yes!) hottest guys ever (whenever i see or think of a really attractive guy), best thing i ever ate, books to read, restaurants to try, quote list, life list, and the list goes on. seriously.

and aahhh i kind of had no idea real snowflakes actually existed! so pretty!

I’m totally behind on one of my favorite blogs!!! I love, love, LOVE all the pics of you and your fam snowboarding and skiing. My dad taught me to ski when I was 4 so we’ve been going on family vacations almost every year since then (more so when we lived in CA) and I know how much fun they can be. My brother is a snowboarder, like you, and when he saw your Christmas card I told him about you and he goes, “She’s a snowboarder? She’s cool.” He also liked Marshall’s tats.. :)

I spy the Christmas card we sent you!! How excited am I right now?! WOOHOO!!

I didn’t know Fritos only had 3 ingredients in them either…wow..you learn something new everyday!

Ok – must go read more of your posts…

7:45am should always be considered bright and early. Always. I’ve been getting up at 5. How scary!

The bloob Chobe is my fave! I mixed it with shredded spoonfuls wannabes like you over break!

I’m a horrific skier. Is that the right spelling? Anyway, it’s just baaad.

Frito’s are vegan! But guess who’s not anymore? ME.

I get dry mouth all the time! I need those damn things!

For beauty products, I use whatever CVS has and I can afford.

Food I’m dying to try? Not sure. But I was just told today to try lotus root. I’m game! Next.

  44. January 1, 2010 11:12 pm

If you can’t tell I’m catching up on blogs tonight! I haven’t been on the computer for more than 20 minutes since I left for vacation.

I’m surprised too about the Fritos! Who knew?

I wash my face with a wash cloth and water and use Annemarie Borlind orange blossom oil as a moisturizer. On my face I use Bare Minerals but I’m always looking for something new.

As far as food to try…hmmm…I can’t think of anything off the top of my head. However I did just recently try persimmons and LOVED them.
