ain’t nothin’ gonna hold me down.

September 29, 2009

stop me before i break out in song from the title, i promise you do NOT want to hear me sing! ;)

so i loved hearing your dream quesadillas and i was surprised to hear a lot of you liked sweet quesadillas! i have never had a sweet quesadilla but i am not opposed to trying it.

i also liked to hear your reasons as to why you prefer to either be too hot or too cold.. it seemed to me that those of you who grew up in colder climates picked cold and those of you who grew up in warmer climates picked hot.  but since i am from utah.. which is 100+ in the summer and below 0 sometimes in the winter, there is no real rhyme or reason to my choice.

ok SO i am extremely behind on replying to comments and emails.  i am just letting you all know now, this is my disclaimer! be patient.. or you can hate me.. but i hope you pick to be patient.

why am i so busy? well i don’t think i have told you all but i am going to lake powell on thursday!

image

GLORY! i can’t wait! there are about 20 of us going and we have a house boat and a speed boat rented for 4 days. it is ok to be jealous. i give you permission.

anyway, onto today!

meal 1: brown cow greek yogurt+PB2+TJ’s 9 grain cereal @ 9:30 AM

meals 663

you can’t see it under there but the PB2+greek yogurt mousse was in full effect!

meals 664

if you haven’t tried mixing PB2.. or just regular peanut butter for that matter.. into greek yogurt, RUN.. DO IT NOW.

so the reason i had a breakfast on the lighter side was i had a lunch date at 1 and i ate breakfast late thanks to a 35 minute traffic jam. ugh.. hate traffic!

meal 2: salad with grilled chicken @ 1:30 PM

meals 667

you utah friends probably recognize this.. cafe rio.  it usually is like.. a 2500 calorie salad.. but i alter it a LOT and get it sans rice, sans beans, sans melted cheese on the tortilla, sub wheat tortilla, extra pico, sans tortilla chips, with grilled chicken. i love healthifying things when eating out, it is kind of like a game. am i a freak? probably.

meals 666

i was with my friend who is also doing body for life and she ordered after me.. she had it easy! she just said “the exact same thing she got” :P

after lunch i got busy at work (no, not that kind of busy you guyyyys!) and before i knew it it was time to eat again! my stomach was growling but since i had HIIT at 5 i didn’t want to over do it.

meal 3: protein iced mocha @ 4:30 PM

meals 671

jup! that is right, celebrated national coffee day twice today, once in the morning and again with this drink!

meals 673

mmmm. frothy.

paired with this bad boy (recycled photo, mind you)

well.. uh.. that whole HIIT at 5 thing? yeah it didn’t happen. i was at work until 7:32. ugh. the price i pay to go out of town on thursday!

so after my nearly 11 hour day i went home.. exhausted.. with HIIT still on the agenda. here were my reasons not to go to the gym:

  • pounding headache.
  • super sore throat (yes, i think i am getting sick, knock on wood).
  • gnarly girlie cramps, ugh.
  • ridiculously tired after a long day at work.
  • would have to get gasolina in order to drive to the gym (and i despise the gas station, dunno why).
  • wanted to eat dinner, not run.

and this is what i did:

  • went to the gym for my HIIT anyway!

yep. go janetha b. (insert title of post here)

HIIT on treadmill. i had to take it easy because i really did feel like butt.

came home and it was time for something i have been craving!

meal 4: pumpkin protein shake @ 9:30 PM

meals 680

recipe can be found here.. mmm.

i used this stuff to sweeten my cup of pumpkin lovin..

meals 677

xagave.  the company contacted me and asked if i would be willing to try out their product and it arrived today.  i thought my pumpkin shake would be the perfect recipe to test out since when i used to make this shake (last fall) i used splenda.. and splenda is not consumed by me any longer so i needed a replacement.  so i used the xagave!

this stuff has just 15 carbs and 60 calories for a whole tablespoon.  i was happy to see that and was hoping that a little would go a long way.

i used less than a teaspoon in my shake. the result? brilliant! the pumpkin protein shake was the perfect amount of sweet and it was a smooth sweet.. nothing fake or gnarly tasting like splenda! i look forward to trying out the xagave in more things in the future.  i haven’t cracked open the book they sent but i definitely will be reading it to get some ideas. have you guys tried this xagave?

meals 678

mmmmm. pumpkin protein shake, i missed you. it has been almost a year since i had one! for shame.

well now i am typing this and probably will not eat again. i am dreading the fact that i may be coming down with something.. my sore throat when i swallow is not rad.  didn’t i get my tonsils out in may for a reason?! if i continue to get sick like i did last winter i am going to shoot someone in the face. not sure who.. but someone.

oh! i got a really great package today! tina from terraBLT sent me this outrageous package because i won her fun giveaway!

meals 675

ah i love foreign stuff! she was on a trip to bulgaria so there are some cool products from her trip as well as some dutch peanut butter and a fun letter~

meals 676

i am extra excited for the crack waffles! although since i do not think they are BFL approved.. i won’t be able to partake of them for waffle wednesday tomorrow. for shame. lots of free day treats though! hooray! thank you so much tina, i love you girl!

well that is about all i have to ramble about tonight! it is now 11:14 PM and WAY past my bedtime, if i don’t get to sleep soon i will for sure be asking for illness. so i am going to call it a night! tomorrow is like my friday, so excited! i have a busy day though, i have been making a list of good eats to take to lake powell as well as some exercise ideas that i can do on the houseboat and on the beach.

Qs

these are totally cop out questions because i need your help! i have a question about meals and a question about moves.. how appropriate :)

1. what are your favorite healthy snacks to take on road trips/to the lake/camping/on vacation? yep.. i am asking you because i need ideas for MY trip.. so please send your thoughts my way!! we will have a kitchen on the house boat so i think i will be able to keep it pretty healthy.

2. what is your favorite exercise to do WITHOUT any equipment? another advice question.. i won’t have a gym but i need to stay active! send your ideas my way :)

and since those are both more for me, i will ask you one more just for fun!

3. are there any foods you LOVE that are only available in other countries? i fell in love with chilinuts, which are from norway. sometimes i can get my norwegian friends to mail them to me.. they are the most deliciously coated peanuts EVA!

Lake Powell looks gorgeous! Man, you have some great scenery where you are. One day I am coming to visit! PB2 + Greek = heaven. I ordered 2 jars to be delivered to NYC…yeah! Stroopwaffels are FAB. Use it as a lid on your coffee and it gets all melty and delish.

    1. what are your favorite healthy snacks to take on road trips/to the lake/camping/on vacation? Hmm… I like Clif bars or Pureprotein bars, bananas, homemade trail mix (using cereal, etc), instant oats, protein pudding (the kind that comes in cans), pouches of tuna…

    2. what is your favorite exercise to do WITHOUT any equipment? another advice question.. i won’t have a gym but i need to stay active! send your ideas my way :) I walk. Around 4-8 miles, 5-6 days a week.

    3. are there any foods you LOVE that are only available in other countries? BWAHAHA! This list could be LONG. I’ll keep it short and say 1) my beloved tofu “chicken” salad, Trader Joe’s pumpkin scones and Bare Naked granola. All American! Oh, and how could I forget? Dr Brown’s diet cream soda.

  2. September 29, 2009 11:56 pm

Xgave? I need to get on that, stat.. I go thru sooo much agave it’s ridic. Thanks for the new idea!

    Your landscape shot? Beautiful.

Natl Coffee Day? Why didnt you tell me girl? I love my coffee. It may not be raw and I could give a flip. I love it, aint givin it up any decade soon :)

Your various shakes you make…would love to hear your recipes. I drink a brown rice protein “shake” every day which is just the powder, some water, and maybe a drop or two of vanilla stevia. Very, very low tech. I dont even break out the Vita. I just shake in my shaker cup.

    Alright woman,nitey nite :)

  3. September 30, 2009 12:21 am

I loooove mexican salads. How can you not love a plate of veggies, beans (for me), avo and salsaaa! My fave.

Okay, soooo bring a bag of bulk, quick oats. OR a few packets of plain oats (that you can spice up with cinn, pb, fruit, etc)! Bring along some hummus and veggies if you can keep stuff refrigerated, and pack lots of yummy trail mixes!

And regarding workouts- do your own mini-boot camp in the mornings! Hit up the jump rope, some push ups, and lunges!! Perfect, no?? :) love ya j!

  4. September 30, 2009 12:49 am

My favorite snacks to bring on trips/trips to Lake Powell (SOOO jealous by the way – went on an amazing boating trip there one weekend, jumped off a few cliffs – good times were had by all): bars (a combo of sizes/calorie counts), peanut butter filled pretzels, apples, carrots and pb, Clif Kid Twisted Fruit, pitas or pita chips, hummus (they make some in individual servings that don’t have to be refrigerated).

Ahh workouts on the road – I’m def. in agreement with the boot camp idea, especially to keep it fun. And what a great opportunity for some nice walks along the lake or maybe even a swim!
    Hope those help : )

Most of my fave foreign foods are available here in some places (Haribo gummy bears for example are German, but you can now find them a ton of places here – they are the only gummy bears I truly enjoy).
I am sad though that you cannot get good Advent Calendars (it’s a calendar with little doors that you open for the 25 days leading up to Christmas – each door reveals a little festively shaped piece of chocolate). My grandparents used to get them for us every year from Germany. You can find cheap, Advent Calendars here at like CostPlus World Market, but the chocolate is usually pretty poor quality.
    Have a good night!

  5. September 30, 2009 3:48 am

Great job going to the gym even though you didn’t want to. Aren’t you glad you did?

I can occasionally find these here (and it’s probably a good thing it’s only occasionally) but I love Crunchie bars from England.

A good workout is the way to go after a long exhausting day of work! I wish I could remind myself when it happens. ;)

    Q1: fruits, sandwiches and nuts
Q2: yoga with podcast, walking and jogging.
Q3: fresh baked bread, those that I had in ARgentina.

Excited for your trip! Such a beautiful place to visit!

  7. September 30, 2009 5:02 am

Oh no! I hope you aren’t getting sick my dear. Its the worst, trust me! Have you ever taken Emergen-C? I would suggest chugging some pronto if you feel a sickness brewin.

Take care darling, get your rest, and do take it easy! :)

  8. September 30, 2009 5:10 am

Ugh so jealous! Here’s where I’ll be on Thursday – my cubicle ha!

Road trip snacks? Peanut butter, bananas, almonds, apples, bars!

Workouts on the road – running!

And finally – thank goodness I cannot get English candy bars (Lion, Aero, Crunchie) in NYC…I mean it would be a diet disaster!

    Have fun on your trip!

  9. September 30, 2009 5:30 am

Okay, so to be honest, I’ve never had any desire to go to Utah until I started reading your blog. But it’s SO pretty! So many fun spots to go to!!! I’ll have to stop by when I do my cross-US trip, at some undetermined date ;)

    1. Hmm… trying to think of things that haven’t been mentioned. Cheesestrings, laughing cow, turkey pepperoni or jerkey, fruit leather, muffins…

    2. Running, of course :) Jump ropes and stair climbing are really good for cardio too. Then there’s the usual bodyweight variations of squats, lunges, pushups, dips, etc.

    3. Does German beer count? :P

  10. September 30, 2009 5:36 am

I love doing burpees/squat thrusts, pop squats, planks with twists, mountain climbers, and ab work :)

Hmmmm….brain fart on the foreign food. I know there is something out there.

OMG – that pumpkin protein shake sounds amazing!!

    1) I love to take apples, bananas, and Larabars on trips with me. I also like to make my own trail mix with cereal, nuts, and raisins.

    2) Favorite exercise without equipment is probably hiking.

    3) The coffee that I had in France was sooo much better than anything I drink here!

  12. September 30, 2009 5:52 am

    1. Travel snacks-apples, bars of some sort, and carrot sticks. I can’t do trail mix because I would eat my weight in it.
2.Fave exercise-i like doing my own type of circuit. (Min each-squats, pushups, jumping jacks, split jump lunges, mountain climbers)
    3. Only been to Mexico and nothing tickled my fancy.

  13. September 30, 2009 6:23 am

Ewwww! Work until 7:30? Hate that! Awesome job fitting in the workout :) You know, I’ve never been to Lake Powell…looks beautiful though!

Running is my fave no-gym workout. You probably could even do your HIT intervals.

  14. September 30, 2009 6:36 am

mmm.. the pumpkin protein shake sounds awesome! I heard yesterday that there is a shortage of canned pumpkin this year! The horror!

I’ll have to stock up next time I see some.

Love the fun giveaway package. It’s so fun to try new things from other countries!

  15. September 30, 2009 6:43 am

I LOVED reading your comments as I just moved overseas. I can’t find Sirachi anywhere and would LOVE someone to be my supplier. I also am super impressed at your workout despite being tired. Wow…you are great!

  16. September 30, 2009 6:47 am

mannn you are gonna have an AWESOME weekend! I am jealous. You do you girl! We’re all still reading and lovin you :)

hmm I love love love packing trail mixes with cereal to munch on and almonds and POPCORN. hahah because sometimes long car rides get boring and so when in doubt…eat!

You know I love your HIIT, I’ve become obsessed. My treadmill routine is actually fun and rewarding now :)

    1. apples, dried fruit, nuts, Clif Z-bars, Kashi bars, and baggies of cereal are all great packable options. I’m always looking for new ideas though.

    2. Looks like hiking around that lake would be a GREAT way to get some exercise in while on your trip. What I love about walking/running is that you can take them anywhere! Also, I’ve recently started doing push-ups when I don’t have time to strength train.

    3. errr, prob not. Although, Nutella crepes are the BEST in France!

yummm pumpkin protein shake, i love fall infused foods! :)

    1. favorite healthy snacks are trail mix, luna/lara bars, dried fruit (yummy mango) and pretzels.

    2. my faveeee exercises are push ups, plank sets, bicycle crunches, tricep push up and squats :) it’s to do different counts (i.e. with squats, do down for a 4 count, up 1 (x3) then down for a 2 count, up for a 2 count (x3) , then down for a 3 count, up for a 2 count (x3), etc… you defff feel the burn doing that!

    3. i honestly have only visited one place outside of the U.S. – paris. While there wasn’t anything i loved there that i couldn’t find in the U.S., the crepes are certainly best in france :) my goal is to travel as much as possible before i’m old. i want to see everything.

  20. September 30, 2009 7:37 am

Great job at the gym! Now make sure you get some rest so you don’t get sick, missy! ;)
1.For trips, I like to make granola and take it along, and I also bring Lara Bars, of course.

    Hope you feel better soon!

OMG! haha XD I’m absolutely ECSTATIC that you finally got it!!!

I was starting to get worried that they messed up the shipment or something! But I’m so happy you got it *happy dance*

Maybe I’m just an old-fashioned nerd or something, but I find it so amazing to think that something I sent is all the way on the other side of the world :D

I like to take tonnes of apples and bananas with me! When I went to England with my schoolmates I took a backpack full of it and got nicknamed “Banana-girl” and “Apple-girl” (they alternated between the too for fun :P)

I’m guilty of NOT exercising during vacations :P… the only exercise I get is walking. But I think that’s a good one… Just hiking or walking through towns can be plenty of exercise..

I love tikvenik, bulgarian pb, bars from other countries :P… uhm… lots of stuff oh! and baguettes from france… their just not the same here :(… but it gives me an excuse to travel :P

    Love you toots!

(so happy you like it :D)

  22. September 30, 2009 8:31 am

So awesome that you did your HIIT anyway! That’s dedication lady!

What a fun package? I got some bars in the mail yesterday that I too am going to have to wait for free day to enjoy :(

  23. September 30, 2009 8:44 am

Salad looks incredible, I do the same thing when ordering. Dave gets so mad at me! But he usually just adds the items that I took off onto his order…it all works out.

    1) Bars (Lara, Clif, Pure), nuts, dried fruit, apples, bananas, hummus, chopped veggies, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, almond butter….

    2) Planks, push ups, squats, lunges, bicycle crunches, kick boxing moves, jumping jacks, sumo squats, surrenders….

    3) Spaetzle from Germany. It’s like a doughy/dumpling/ pasta dish, I had it with a mushroom cream sauce once and I wanted to marry it…it was so good!

  24. September 30, 2009 8:56 am

I am really jealous of your trip! And I will definitely be making that smoothie :)

  25. September 30, 2009 9:10 am

lake powell looks absolutely freaking leaking GORGEOUS! you are going to have so much fun! can’t wait to see a recap of all those shenanigans :)

ummmm…xagave is supposed to be sending me some free stuff too, which i am UBER-excited about, especially now that i read your fab review.

fave trip snacks? i say doing some pre-baking/cooking is never a bad thing. otherwise, trail mix, larabars, veggies/dip, fruit, yogurt, diet coke (a trip staple for me) – things that are easy and portable are always a winner!

yoga is a fab workout that you need nothing more than yourself! otherwise, calisthenics – jumping squats, push-ups, ab work, RUNNING, swimming, other toning exercises should keep you fit for the weekend!

ahhhh i love all foreign things. i can’t even begin to list the things i love from abroad, starting with British Cadbury Crunchie bars…AMAZING!!!

  26. September 30, 2009 9:19 am

Ew to 11 hours!! At least you dominated that work out! Every day should be coffee day :)

Hahah crack waffles! They sound tasty!!

    1. Fruit salad, oatmeal, ummm….HUMMUS?!

    2. what is your favorite exercise to do WITHOUT any equipment? Chair dips to work your tris, any ab exercise, lunges

    3. are there any foods you LOVE that are only available in other countries? Kit Kat McFlurry’s are worth running down the streets of Paris at midnight barefoot….not that I’m speaking from experience or anything….

  27. September 30, 2009 9:25 am

Janetha! I feel like a stalker, but this is Jenny(LBD) from Tracker.

I’m taking a blogging class and one of our assigments is to comment on blogs we like. So um… Hi! I like your blog.

Anyway. For road trips I am really unoriginal. I like turkey jerky and fruit because it’s easy and portable. Another decent on-the-go meal I’ve found is those South Beach wraps that you find next to the Lunchables. They’re realtively balanced when I’m being lazy.

  28. September 30, 2009 10:42 am

    Hi
    I just found you from Mama’s Weeds….
OH, I have done the lake powell trip in a house boat…BEST place…so so beautiful.. you are going to have a BLAST!

I can’t believe your HR after that jog…I am going to try the 1 minute thing…I need a push!

my fav exercise w/o equipment is HIKING…hands down! ANYTHING out doors!

I am gonna give your bloggie a good read!
    nice to meet you!

  29. September 30, 2009 10:50 am

I’m sure you’ll get lots of good advice on the first two questions…I think sample or mini packs are key when traveling. Not eco-friendly, but helpful. Things like nut butter and trail mix and apples/carrots that comes in single servings so it’s easy to keep in your purse or whatever. Oh and I love European chocolate! So good.

  30. September 30, 2009 10:52 am

Oh no, hope you’re not getting sick! Hopefully the HIIT workout killed the sickness!

I almost bought that same exact Luna bar yesterday, never tried it but it sounds good. That’s what I like to take on trips as snacks–bars, and trail mix.
Hmm my favorite without equipment? Probably Pilates or Yoga!

  31. September 30, 2009 10:54 am

It looks like you have a ton of great suggestions already, but for trips where I can’t refrigerate I stock up on homemade trail mix (almonds, shredded wheat and dried fruit), Larabars, oatmeal packets, more almonds, more dried fruit, real fruit, etc.

As for exercise, I think you’ll find a million things to do at that beautiful lake–from hiking and walking to boating and drinking (that counts, right?) Otherwise, lunges, squats, push ups, tri dips, sprints, etc. But have fun!

And I so need to find PB2 or try to order the sample pack online.

  32. September 30, 2009 11:03 am

First of all, someone mentioned this above and I just want to add, I love your HIIT routine and began incorporating it into my workouts about a month or two ago. I feel awesome afterwards, and there are so many ways to modify it. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1) Most people already mentioned these ideas, but homemade trail mix- nuts, cereal, dried fruit- and jerky are my favorite snacks for roadtrips.

2)It will def be easy to walk, run and swim on your trip. Such a pretty location to go to!

    3) Easy question to answer: Tim Tams!!!!! These are a chocolate wafer cookie (“biscuit” as they say) from Australia. They are soooooo delicious!

  34. September 30, 2009 11:10 am

I NEED PB2… Man, I can’t find it anywhere herrrre! Do you order yours?

That salad looks delizioso, and totally BFL friendly (adding to my list of reasons to come to SLC) love it!

Oh man, pumpkin protein shake?? Why have I not tried this?!?!

    1. I love trail mix- home made or TJ’s, dried fruit, cereal, bars of course and mini packs of PB/AB.

    2. Spend some time outside!! Hike, Go for a trail run, do pushups/tricep dips on a rock, enjoy the area and get exercise doing it!

    4. I LOVE the muesli I ate in Italy… and as a tie, the fantastic fennel pretzels we used to buy in HUGE bags… they were tasty (and the perfect hangover cure! lol)

    2. Jumping jacks, pushups, tricep dips on a chair, high knees, mountain climbers, wall sits. Dance parties?
    3. I’m not sure that I’ve ever had a foreign food. How sad.

Ooo girl that sounds like fun! And your protein shakes sound yummmmy.

    1. Bars!! edamame, nuts, apples, bananas, carrots. There’s this brand called Nile Spice that has a lot of healthy soups that are kind of packaged like Ramen. They have a lentil one that I like :) You just need to add hot water, and voila.

    2. Yoga! Dancing and running.

    3. OH MY GOSH! First thing that came to mind are the delicious bread rolls in Germany. Breakfasts with fresh ones from the bakery, and you spread on some butter and fruity jam – so simple and delicious!

xagave sounds surrious.. how does one pronounce such a word?

    1. trail mix and bars ba bar bars bars. (said to the tune of sisco’s “thong tha thong thong thong)
    2. yoga and pilates for sure!
    3. hmm, can’t say that there are… yay America!

HI LOVE!!! So, I could nevah evah get sick of you–I loved your series of three comments.

Shooo I want that sweetener! It sounds FAB!

Fave roadie snacks: bell pepper slices (so flavorful all by themselves), cuke slices, Honeycrisps, packets of AB or PB to squirt on each bite (or just put it in a zip-loc, leave room in a corner, tear off corner with teeth and squeeze through there), Clif bars, grapes, Z-Bars, crackas, your fave diet soda (this is a MUST)…anything you have portion control around because when holed up in a car, there isn’t much else to do but eat (which one of the reasons I love road trips).

For Q2, running intervals (mostly walking, obvs) and squats! I love em but never do them at the gym. I sometimes do squats while waiting for something to cook in the micro. Don’t know why I just shared that.

And 3, SHREDDIES!!!! It’s only the best cereal ever and it hails from Canada. Whenever my gma (who is from Canada) comes to visit, she brings multiple jumbo boxes for me. They are supposed to last me months, but we know my cereal habits.

Hope you’re having a fab HUMPday. Love you!!

The pumpkin protein smoothie sounds amazing! I have been trying to think of other things to do with my beloved collection of pumpkin. And I haven’t tried PB in greek yogurt yet…..I’m kooky and warm my greek yogurt but PB would be a great addition!

    1. Raw nuts, fruit, nut butter, hummus, etc etc.
    2. Running!!! :) I also like burpees, jump squats, jump lunges, mountain climbers, high knee jumps, push ups, etc.
    3. Tim Tams!! Heaven in your mouth. I saw another commenter loves these as well. Australia, I miss you.

  47. September 30, 2009 6:00 pm

omg i LOVE stroopwaffels from Amsterdam!!!! and the fresh peanuts from the little grocery stores in Spain… ahh, I miss Europa :(

  48. September 30, 2009 6:13 pm

thanks for the permission to be jealous. cos I was totally gonna be jealous anyway; now I feel ok about it :)

    1. raw nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit/veggies. pretty much my usual eats. and wasabi peas. wasabi peas are necessary road-tripping fuel.

    2. running, of course! running in a gorgy vacation spot is amazing! yoga is good. I’ve got some heavy duty resistance bands that I take with me when I travel too; they don’t take up any space.

    3. hm, nothing really comes to mind. chili nuts sound good though! I’ve never been to norway…

have a safe trip tomorrow! and a great start to a month of amazing food holiday extravaganzas!

So very very proud of you for making it to the gym wahoo! I MISS you already – I am also very jealous, we will be on opposite sides of the US! HAVE fun, BE careful and above all do a few wake board runs just for ME!! xoxo

Oh, you know me–string cheese, apples, RTD, almonds – so so boring……..and I agree with the above mentioned exercises when on the road! xoxoxo love you to the moon!!!!!

    Please stay healthy :)

  51. September 30, 2009 7:11 pm

have fun my dear!!! lake powell looks AMAZING! i like to bring larabars, dried fruit, fresh fruit like apples/oranges/grapefruit, and miso soup that you can mix with hot water. oh – and hot cocoa!

  52. September 30, 2009 7:21 pm

Completely and utterly jealous of your trip!! Lucky girl! That lake looks faboosh.

So sorry you are starting to feel ill – not cool at all when you have a vacay coming up. Sleep well etc. You know the drill. I can’t really say eat well and drink lots of water because you are kind of a pro at that…

    1) I would say yoga is #1 even though I just started doing it. You can literally do it at the side of your bed when you wake up and it’s awesome. Is the lake going to be warm enough to swim in? I say do doggy paddle on the spot for 30 minutes. That is a serious work out!! Not kidding!
    2) Plenty of British stuff. Real cadbury’s chocolate since the stuff they manufacture here is made with different ingredients and tastes like balls.
I love you! Feel better and have an AMAZING trip! xx

  53. September 30, 2009 7:23 pm

oooops I forgot the REAL number one!
i take granola bars. they are standard. I also make my own trail mix and separate it into different portioned out baggies.
    Hmmm bananas are easy peasy.
A container of hummus and some carrot sticks.
    crackers.
oh and for on the road a PB&J or a PB&B goes a long way. Enjoy!!

  54. September 30, 2009 7:57 pm

Nice work still going to the gym! You are my idol! :)
I like to bring larabars, bananas travel well, box of cereal/granola.

Since you are going to such a gorgeous location, I would take some long walks/runs.

And even though I know I can get mexican food here, there is nothing like authentic mexican food with a few margaritas while sitting on the beach!

  55. September 30, 2009 8:03 pm

Ah! That place looks SOOOO beautiful – have an absolute blast. And feel better quick- lots o rest! I really want to try the protein /coffee combo.

    1. Laras, rice cakes, apples, nanas
    2. RUN
    3. GOOD tropical fruits

    what a gorgy photo!

    1. dried fruit, bars, nuts, granola, trail mix…basically my daily lunch snacks

    2. equipmentless exercise that i love/hate are lunges. man those things can be rough, and you can change them up with forward/backward/sideways and weights…rough stuff

    3. tortilla espanola. mmmm

  57. September 30, 2009 9:05 pm

I am obsessed with pumpkin shakes!!!!!!! The best. Eva. I love tae bo. I guess you need a DVD, but no gym equipment. I get SO sore after doing that.
And I swear I had the best cup of coffee ever at a chain in London. Sooo good. But I’m thinking it might’ve been half & half in the FF milk pot that I put into my coffee and that’s what made it super creamy. Super good!

  58. September 30, 2009 9:06 pm

I’m going camping to so I’ll be reading all these comments. I love doing squats and crunches…good ole fashion exercise! Pumpkin protein shake looks great!

  59. September 30, 2009 10:03 pm

THAT LAKE IS SO GORG! There is a reason to move to Utah right there!

Also go you for going to the gym anyway. I would prob have done some thing like take a nap if I did not feel like going, not gonna lie.

  60. September 30, 2009 10:04 pm

Hey girl! Sorry no time to read 58 comments so will spew and prob. repeat others:

    1. Bars (obvi), nuts, flatout, lavash, crackers, oatmeal packets, POWDERED Egg whites (mix w/ water, voila, eggs), HB eggs for first few days

    2. Do a good lunge& squat routine and you’ll burn baby burn. All things body weight- bring bands too- good for alternative resistance training, and a jump rope if they won’t think you’re nuts.

    3. Fave is always some cracker or chocolate I can’t get here. there is a Danish chocolate that is literally wafer thin- I stock up when I go there.j

the lake looks beyond ridiculously spectacular. Doesn’t even look real. ENJOY! who are these 20 people? I’m not sure i even know 20 people!! :-)

  61. September 30, 2009 10:06 pm

PS. TOTAL High five on the workout when you could have CRAPPED out! :-D

  62. September 30, 2009 10:23 pm

    1. I like to take wraps on trips. I can put whatever I want in them (sometimes even AB and J)and throw them in a lunch box with an ice pack.
    2. Yoga! Before I met yoga and fell in love, I did the usual lunges, reverse crunches, planks, leg lifts, squat down as low as I can then jump up like a leap frog on speed.
    3. Haven’t run into any products that I can’t get in the US.

  63. September 30, 2009 10:35 pm

omg I am so jealous you are going to Powell. Have fun! I am also jealous you had Cafe Rio today..that place is my weakness/waistline demise.

My fave non gear exercises are pushups, squats, yoga, running and jumping jacks.

    Enjoy your trip!

  64. October 1, 2009 3:41 pm

I love the pic of Lake Powell, and now I’m jealous that you are going on this trip! ;)

Great advice in the previous comments regarding food to take and exercise! I don’t really have anything to add…

Have a wonderful trip! I’m over my jealousy now… ;)
