september first…

September 2, 2009

happy september!

september 1st is not the best day in my life.  two years ago today the love of my life was taken from me.

74816984197
mable ann.. best dog ever in the world.  she was hit by a car while on my ex boyfriend’s watch.  we shared her and he had taken her from my house when i started dating marshall, stating that "since i had a boyfriend i didn’t need to have mable".. ok, immaturity at it’s best (this exboyfriend is also in jail currently~that explains a lot).

i hadn’t seen my little girl in months and then i got a call from the ex telling me what happened.  let’s just say it was the worst day of my life.  2007 had not been kind to me.  i broke my humerus when i overshot a 65 foot jump snowboarding. i was deported from canada. i would break all my bones and get deported from every country if i could just bring mabes back. <3

meals 267
after mable died i had marshall’s roommate (who owns a tattoo shop) tattoo mable’s name on my wrist.  i hate tattoos. but for some reason i felt the urge to put something on my body that would remind me, constantly, how much i love her.

 IMG_2350
anyway, sorry about the downer opening.  i just still think about it and am real sad about it!  thanks for listening, we can talk about food now :P

meal 1: blueberry cinnamon protein oats @ 8:30 AM

 meals 262
thought i would throw a few blue dudes into the cinnamon pool.

oh, and for those of you who really thought i put 3 cups of cinnamon into my protein shake yesterday.. well.. you have a thing or two to learn about me and my extreme use of exaggeration ;)

work was stressful.  real stressful.  it is tax time for us and in february of this year they designated me to be the accounts person and let the actual employee with the degree go.  um.. i am working on learning the ropes but with that task along with all my other tasks.. things get overwhelming.  i love the word overwhelm. i love to say it out loud. mainly the "whelm" part.

meal 2: turkey&green pepper rolled up into a flat out+annie’s honey mustard & veggies+chipotle sabra @ 12:00 PM

meals 265
it was good.
i would even say it was great.

meals 266

insert more stress here please.

meal 3: scoopable protein shake @ 3:45 PM

meals 269
in the mix:

  • frozen strawberries, peaches, grapes and raspberries
  • 1/2 cup UVAB
  • splash of simply orange
  • ice
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

meals 271

promise it is totally clean eats.

so then i got off work later than i had anticipated and had to haul ass to the gym to get my HIIT in. luckily my new auto is super speedy ;)

HIIT went something like deese: (say that like a french person would)

then i had to hightail it home and clean my sweaty hot mess of a self up!  i had a date with my brother.  no, i am not one that practices incest.  his wife was there too.  and some friends. we ate at a little spot called red butte cafe~

meals 273

meal 4: mediterranean salad + grilled chicken + balsamic drizzle

 meals 277

not a pretty photo but this was epic!! in the mix:

  • lettuce
  • asparagus
  • green beans
  • artichokes
  • tomatoes
  • red onions
  • mozzarella balls
  • kalamata olives
  • grilled chicken
  • parmesan cheese

my SIL wanted to take my photo with my salad. promise, i didn’t even ask her to. kodak moment i suppose?

meals 274

bad posture janetha b!

that is iced tea you spy. unsweetened, of course. i think i drank 5 of them.

and then we headed to modest mouse!  i have not seen them in years and years so i was rather excited for this show.  it was fabulous despite the fact that i had a zillion sweaty backs in my face the whole time and could not see the stage. such is the life of a five foot one incher like myself!

did not get home until midnight and was starvin’ marvin…

meal 5: chocolate protein shake + bowl of TJ’s fiber worms

meals 278

just protein powder, almond milk and ice.

meals 280

i heart you TJFW.

kind of a copout today, 3 of my 5 meals had the protein source coming from protein powder! that is not what i prefer but sometimes that is the way the ball bounces.  i can’t decide if i prefer the chocolate or the vanilla protein powder.

well now it is midnight thirty. dang. i gotta go to bed. so much for 7 hours of sleep tonight!

sorry this post is a little whack, i was short on time.

one exciting thing: i am officially going to the foodbuzz blogger festival! holler! who else is going??

Qs

1. your opinion on tattoos? do you have any? what do they mean? i don’t love tattoos. they are ok, i guess. ironically my boyfriend is covered in them. i like them better when they have some solid meaning behind them and they are not something random just for the sake of getting a tattoo. but i do love my tattoo of mable’s name <3

2. do you prefer chocolate or vanilla? and i don’t mean protein powder, i mean in general. i prefer vanilla! vanilla bean ice cream is the absolute best taste ever.

Oh Janetha I am so sorry about your dog! I think you win the award for “worst ex-boyfriend EVER”. I have known quite a few horrible ones.

I don’t really mind tattoos. I don’t have any myself, but I have considered it before. I don’t see anything wrong with them as long as they are meaningful and not something stupid, like Tasmanian devil or some shit like that. haha.

CHOCOLATE all the way! Its just not desert to me if its not chocolate. I am a true girl!

Hope your having a great day dear and that work is not too too stressful on you! <3

  2. September 2, 2009 5:00 am

Awww girl, you need to stop starting these posts with such sad news. It’s making me tear up!!
Mable was adorable!! I am sure that you miss her so much and I know that she misses you all the same.

WOw, crazy good run today. 10.0?? That’s awesome. I love seeing how fast I can get the TM up to without killing myself. I think my best is 9.0, but I can’t imagine it at 10.0. That must have been like 60 sec. of death.

    Have a lovely day love!

  3. September 2, 2009 5:58 am

What? Why NOT 3 cups of cinnamon? I think that sounds fantastic. I saw you use the phrase starvin’ marvin in your post, and I have to tell you I was totally saying that all day yesterday! Everyone acted like they’d never heard it before, so I’m glad to know someone else knows what the hell I’m talking about. :)

I feel the same way about tattoos. I actually have two–they both mean something, but for the cost and pain, they probably should have meant a lot more!
And p.s. CHOCOLATE!!! (I am Sloth from the goonies, ‘member?)

Omg… I’m so jealous… Ialso want to go to the Foodbuzz festival, thing is the ticket there would cost me a fortune (I’m going to write them a very serious note about moving it to holland :P)

I’m actually planning on getting a tattoo soon, I’m gonna get a cherryblossombranch because it symbolizes the transience of life in Japanese culture and it will remind me to live and love my life to the fullest everyday, because I won’t be here forever (kind of a tribute to my grandma).

And let highlight the next overused phrase: OH MY GOD! How can you say vanilla?! Chocolate anyday! :P

    Lovexx

  5. September 2, 2009 6:21 am

Okay, I don’t normally leave comments on blogs, but I stumbled across yours the other day and I’ve been obsessed/stalking it for the last 48 hours! Kind of random, but you and I have a lot in common… #1 I have a TON of family in SLC… do you know anyone with the last name Proctor? 99% chance I’m related to them. seriously.

#2 I have a dog named Penelope! And I call her Penny! And she has a middle name! She’s a chihuahua, named Penelope Sue :)

and lastly, there was a post you did back in April that just stated almost EXACTLY what I tell people when they ask why I don’t drink (special occasions only)…” and i would rather have a bowl of vanilla bean ice cream over a pabst’s blue ribbon any day of the week. ” Not kidding, ice cream is sooo much more worth it than alcohol!

Anyway, sorry to be a creeper, but just wanted to say hello and I’m stoked to have run across your fabulous blog!

    -Carey

Oh, and #1: I have 2, but in random places no one can really see…. on my toe and on my butt… yeah. Not a hug fan of excessive body art, but strategically placed is okay.

#2 Vanilla, so many times over.

so jelly that you’re going to the foodbuzz event. enough of that.

On the bright side tax stress is over by Sept 15th for atleast a little while :)

So sorry about Mable but I love that you have a tattoo to memorialize :)

mmm vanilla ALL the way forever and always. and no tats for me right here. If I had gotten one when I wanted the rentals would have stopped paying for college haha so that was out and now I just don’t want one

  7. September 2, 2009 6:48 am

3 cups of cinnamon?! Why not 4, come on! ;)

Sorry about the work stress and the bad memories. One of my dogs was hit by a car a while back and it’s tough to get through.

    1. Tattoos are fine – personally I don’t want any but it’s not like I look down on someone for having them
    2. Vanilla!

  8. September 2, 2009 6:53 am

I’m so sorry about Mable :( *big hugs*

I LOVE the photo of you- you have the most sunshine-filled eyes ever. So jealous about the Foodbuzz festival! I would go if it was closer! Lol. All the cool stuff happens in the US… I want to move back!

    1. your opinion on tattoos? do you have any? what do they mean? I don’t love tattoos to be honest. I like it when they mean something or are symbolic in some way (like yours!) but whilst I have seen some pretty amazing inkage, it’s not my kind of art. But I have one, lol. I got a rose on my stomach when I was 18. It was to remind me of beauty amidst pain, but really…it just kind of reminds me of how horrible those few months were for me so I don’t love it. I got a bunch of piercings during the ages of 15-18 too which I’ve since taken out. My rose…*shrugs* It’s part of me now.

    2. do you prefer chocolate or vanilla? Tough one. I hated chocolate growing up but have grown to really like it…though am hooked on vanilla right now. Real deal vanilla bean. YUM :D

  10. September 2, 2009 7:35 am

Just eat more veggies + natural sources of protein tomorrow, thats what I say!

And I’m so sorry about Mable. I’m sure she is in a better place now, she was gorgeous!

My opinion on tattoos is… well, I like them alot! I have three, and they all mean something special to me. I hate tattoos that have no meaning at all, they’re pointless to me. But I love the idea of keeping a part of me alive forever through art, on my body. Sounds weird, but I love it! I have the “Leo” sign on my left shoulder (everyone tells me I am a charachteristic leo!), I have “Strength” inked in almost graffiti-style cursive on my left ribcage, to symbolize all that I have been through in my life, and “I’m not afraid of life” on my right ankle- it’s a Ramones song, and it was for my dad on father’s day last year =)

The chocolate vs. vanilla thing is HARD- I used to always say chocolate but I definitely prefer vanilla now! But I’ve only tried the choc protein powder and I love it =)

I’m so sorry about Mable…she was a gorgeous dog. I think I forgot to tell you on my blog that I love your choice of names. Mable…penelope – they are so cute!!

I love the picture of you and your salad! You’re so photogenic.

    TJ worms, sabra hummus, oats…yummm….

I am not a big fan of tatoos either – I don’t mind when they symbolize something but I would never get one just because I change my mind so frequently that a day later I’d regret whatever I chose to have as a tatoo.

I have always been a vanilla fan – I don’t like chocolate ice cream and I prefer vanilla everything…except when it comes to protein powder, for some weird reason! The brands I’ve tried have always tasted better as chocolate. :)

  12. September 2, 2009 7:51 am

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. Dogs bring so much joy to our lives and it is so crushing when all that joy is taken away. I hope that work becomes less stressful for you. Keep your head up girl!

sorry to know your story with your beautiful dog and bad memories of 2007. It’s a sad one but I hope you already overcame it.
I used to judge people who has tatoo on it, but now I think a lot of people have tatoo not to pretend cool, but to remember something really important that have/had in life (like your case) so I respect them.
vanilla or chocolate? Chocolate forever! :)

  14. September 2, 2009 8:01 am

What a beautiful dog, I’m so sorry you lost her like that. It’s so much worse losing a pet suddenly than when they grow old and gray.

I always say I hate salads but I really just hate my own version of salad. If I could replicate restaurant versions I’d be just fine with eating them daily. That one you had looks incredible…

    1) Yes I have tattoos! I have 4: one blue star on the inside of each hip right below the waist, a tribal symbol on my lower back, and a vine w/magnolia blossoms on the inside of my left ankle trailing down onto my foot. I LOVE them all and they do have special meanings and memories for me. I want more but the hubs says no. :(

    2) Chocolate. It was LOVE at first sight.

  15. September 2, 2009 8:08 am

Losing any pet is TOUGH. Sounds like what you went through with Mable was super stressful :(

You saw Modest Mouse!? I lovel0velove them!! Arg, no one good ever comes to my corner of the world.

That is basically the salad of my dreams right there. All my fave things on one plate!!

    1. I’m tattoo free, I’m not a huge fan of them either. I think they’re great for other folks, just not me. My crazy fear of needles may be a factor in that…

    2. I love real chocolate, but when it comes to flavoured things, I always pick vanilla. Blends much better with other flavours too :)

  16. September 2, 2009 8:15 am

Ugh my eyes seriously welled up when I read your story able Mable :( She is thr spitting image of Daisy, but blonde! So sad…

That wrap looks fantastic…anything with Sabra is good in my book though. Looks like a fun night out. It is possible to eat a nice clean meal at a restaurant even though I convince myself otherwise at times.

Janetha! I am so, so, so sorry about Mable. I just want to give you an enormous hug right now. I also bust out in full-on tears with the second picture of that beautiful baby. That’s exactly how my Sheeb looks at me, so I can’t even imagine what it’ll be like if she’s ever gone. Yes, if. I said it in my last post, but I need everyone in my life to stay here forever.

Moving onto lighter things, I can’t wait to be in NOhio (OK that’s mean) to buy protein powda (I’m thinking brown rice protein) and make your shakes!

I used to hate tattoos. Then I started to think they were rather attractive on guys, but they have to be just right. I can’t have any dragon shit. I’ve known I wanted a tattoo for at least a year or two now, and when you responded to my tat Q earlier this summer, it made me know exactly what I want. I just don’t know where I want it now.

And the second Q, chocolate! Obvs. I respect a good vanilla, though!

Hope you have a happy humpday. Love you!

  18. September 2, 2009 9:01 am

so sorry to hear the Mable story. she was beautiful!

and boo to the stress at work. obviously they know you are amazing and capable, otherwise they wouldn’t have given you the extra tasks, right?

    1. I like tattoos. I have eight of them, and they all mean something very specific and special to me; the act of getting one imparts some meaning in itself, as well. I just really enjoy the whole process, especially in getting some larger art. It’s a little representation of a journey. Or something :) I like mine.

    2. I’m particular about vanilla. Fake vanilla is one of the worst flavors ever; real vanilla bean is one of the best! But I have to go with chocolate, I think. Super dark, bitter chocolate.

hope today is less stressful! have a good one!

  19. September 2, 2009 9:06 am

Now I’m sad! :( Mable was BEAUTIFUL – I am so sorry she was taken before her time – but it’s obvious how much you loved her, and I’m sure she knew that, regardless of when the last time you saw her was.

    I don’t like tattoos either – but I LOVE yours. :)

  20. September 2, 2009 9:06 am

mable ann…so precious. i am sorry to hear that but i can tell she was a good dog. and such a beauty!

ummm…you are going to the foodbuzz festival? gahhhh i want to go. i think i have the e-mail – maybe i will see what i can arrange. i am just so poor and really want to go to argentina – gosh, realism holly please!

yay for modest mouse and your cute pic! that salad looks amazing!

hope work is going okay – learning a new job is NOT fun. when you constantly feel stupid, i hate that. i am just starting to get out of that in my new job. hang in there, i know you will get it down.

tattoos are fine. not for me, but peeps like em, its all good.

choco or vanilla…depends on the mood :)

lotsa love to you girl. hugs.

Janetha I am so sorry about your loss. Your post was not a “downer” we are here to help you through anything you may be going through!

That salad looks delish and your top/dress is SO CUTE!

    1. I have one tattoo and it will be the only one I get. It’s on my hip and says “que sera sera” the Italian phrase for what will be, will be. I got it in Italian because I was an Italian minor in college, but the phrase was to remind me that I couldn’t control some really bad things that are/were going on in my life and I needed to relax about it. I don’t regret getting the tattoo because it really is a message that I need to constantly remind myself of.
    2. Chocolate for sure, but I do tend to gravitate toward vanilla protein powder.

  24. September 2, 2009 10:57 am

I’m so sorry to hear that about your dog, I think the best thing you can do is treasure Penny.

I don’t really like tatoos unless they mean something. My sister has a birdcage on the nape of her neck because her last name is Cage, and I think that’s cute!

Janetha, I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I had seen that tattoo in some of your other pics and always wondered about it’s meaning. Now, I know :) I’m also not a lover of tattoos and would only get one if it had strong meaning to me so I think yours was a good choice :)

Also, when you were talking about your love for the word “overwhelm,” am I the only one who immediately thought of: “I know you can overwhelmed and underwhelmed, but can you ever just be ‘whelmed’?” I mean really, what a fabulous movie — “but i love my sketchers? that’s because you dont have a prada backpack. ohhhhhhhhhh.” gosh i love it!

  26. September 2, 2009 11:21 am

aw sweety :( you poor thing. i know how you feel, losing something so close.
i had a dog hit by a car on my ex boyfs watch too. he never paid me for him and he was the best dog ever – a white german shepherd with the kindest sweetest heart in the world, and when we broke up he took him. i should have made him leave him. it isn’t fair. his stupid roommates left the door open. i regret it to this day. i was way too nice to him, only making him pay me back part of what I gave him to pay off his car which he is still paying back. ugh. not all the rent he owed me and all the freaking money i gave him in addition.
lol sorry i just get very upset talking about it bc he is the reason i lost all my money. well, half the reason. and i’d have half of it left if not for him.
aw honey i had no idea you got deported from canada… why? if you don’t mind me asking. sorry about the bone too! agh! you poor thing i just want to hug you.
eek about work! yikesersaurus. that would stress me out too.
wow minus the onions and olives ;) that salad sounds awesome.

AGH I am SO jealous you are going to the foodbuzz fest. i can’t afford the plane tickets but i SO want to go. and it is in CA! the place i most want to visit! ARGH! And we could even meet each other finally but alas i am broke. damn it!

    1. yes tattoos love em, want more .. lol but nothing like sleeves or .. legs? or anything.
i have the one on my wrist for my mom that you saw. i have roses on the back of my neck (best friend had same ones). i have swallows on hip – no meaning. i have a pink playboy bunny on lower back ala Holly madison (not anymore, she got rid of it lol). i guess my whole body is a canvas tribute to my artist mother really :)
my tats arent really random, they are things that really make me who i am. besides the bunny. granted it was my second tat (the first is covered up by swallows). who knows, maybe one day I will cover that one too, but it is fun and sexy and so am i :D
    2. vanilla normally but i LOVE chocolate.

OMG Janetha- so sad about Mable- and two days ago? Blue! Sad times. We love our pets like you do so i get it.

I think that tattoos can be cool. I decided against getting one because a radiologist told me that they can interfere with reading MRIs properly! Not sure if that’s true.

Chocolate. But Vanilla is a close 2nd :-) It’s ALL good!

  28. September 2, 2009 11:23 am

aww honey my heart aches for you and Mable. I know how hard losing a beloved pet can be.

No tattoos here but I do appreciate them – I have my nose pierced though! I’d only get one that really meant something, much like yours.

Chocolate or vanilla – I love me some dark chocolate but I usually prefer vanilla in things like cake, frosting, ice cream.

Love that sweet pic of you and your salad! :D

I’m on the fence about tattoos – my husband has one from the military that he might get covered over. I can never decide what to get so I haven’t gotten one. If I get one, it’ll be somewhere that no one would ever see.

Ohhh Janetha B, you pretty salad lady. So sorry about Mable.
Guess what?! First time ever – one of your photos didn’t show up for me! Think it was of your tat though so that’s ok – seen that bad boy before.
Seriously that gigant salad looks amazing! I need to get a GOOD restaurant salad soon…

    1) Not a big fan of tattoos to be honest but I do like your mable one and I’m not even just saying it! Some are ok but generally I think “meh” – it’s gonna be there forever, are you really going to love it in 20 years?
    2) CHOCOLATE. Don’t get me wrong I heart vanilla so it’s not that easy of a choice but my love for chocolate goes so deep…that’s all I can say.
    Love you!!
Can’t believe you’re going to Foodbuzz!!

  33. September 2, 2009 12:36 pm

That is such a sad story about dear Mable. I’m so sorry, losing pets is the worst!

That pic of you and the salad is adorable, and I’m jealous you got to see Modest Mouse!!

    1. I think tattoos are fine, I doubt I would ever get one myself, basically bc it freaks me out having something that permanent on my body, but if I had a good reason, maybe I would.

    1. I don’t have any, but I don’t mind them. Most of my friends (and almost everyone in Richmond) has ’em.

    2. I prefer vanilla. It’s sooo much versatile I think, and I dunno… something about it by itself is “just right”!

    1. No tattoos. I don’t think I will ever get one, but if I do, it will definitely be something meaningful to me.

    2. In most cases, vanilla–when it’s a flavor. I can’t deny that sometimes I just crave chocolate, though!

Get out of town? I would seriously hurt my ex boyfriend if he did that to me. I’m SO SO SO SO sorry for your loss. I think your tattoo is just beautiful.

Yummy eats. Love that sammy with the mustard dripping out!!!!

    1. I do not have any tattoos…for a long time I thought I wouldn’t get one…but I may reconsider :)

    2. Vanilla! I’m a crazy girl…chocolate is just OK to me

Mable was a beautiful dog. It’s a shame she was taken so early in her life.

I’m not a tattoo person. I don’t hate them, but don’t really care for them either.

    Vanilla. I’m boring.

Oh luck girl! I really want to go to the festival. But couldn’t get tickets :-( I love the worms!! haha. Those tasty buggers.
I’m sorry about your doggy. She’s happy in doggy heaven :-)

Sorry about your doggie but your tatoo is awesome! It’s a nice memory of something you loved and that loved you.

I have 3 and they don’t mean anything.

    Chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate!

  43. September 2, 2009 5:22 pm

Ha! Right when I read, “bad posture Janetha B”, I sat up straight!!! I was a bittt slouched while reading your post as well. ;)

But so, so sorry about Mable. :( She looks adorable.

And yummm….even though you’re eatin’ CLEAN, i’d have that chipotle sabra and protein oats any day, every dayyyy. Shoot, I still need to try protein oats!! What’s your absolute FAVORITE combo??

    xoooooo my sweet j!

aw J, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I know Mable is looking down on you and wagging her little tail for ya!

    1. I’m okay with the ink — insolong as it’s not totally ridonculous and meaningless

Awww I am so sorry to hear about your pup Mable and all the bad things that happened that year! I know you are an animal lover and that must have been so hard on you! But good thing you are now a blogger and get all the ridiculously amazing support from this ridiculously amazing community :D

    1) I WAS SO CLOSE of getting a tattoo in Ireland when I went with my two friends at Christmas because they both got little shamrocks on the back of their neck. But I asked if they could do it on the bottom of my foot (only place I would get one) and they said no, so that was it. And I am haps I didn’t because tattoos have neva been my thing! However, the shamrock on my girlz does look hawt!!

    2) Vanilla cake… but I do love a good hersheys bar!!

Sorry about your doggy :( That is horrible! :(

I personally don’t like tattoos.. but both of my sisters have little ones. Loveeeeeee chocolate :)

Mable is such a beauty. I’m so sorry for your loss…I had a dudley-nosed yellow lab for the first 14 years of my life named Charlotte (after Charlotte’s Web). She was such a special dog. Anyway, I love reading about your dogs–I am such a dog person!

  49. September 2, 2009 10:18 pm

Oh dear, I’m so sorry abt your dog, Janetha. I’m sure you miss her a lot…I’ve never really had a pet, so I can’t even imagine…I’ll bet it’s like losing a real family member! :-(

But hey, I’m sure she had a VERY blessed life having a fabulous owner like you! If I were a dog I’d be content to be pampered by you :-)

Oh, and I don’t have a tattoo, but if I get one it’d better be a cute one, like an anime kitty on my lower back or something. Something totally “untatoo”-like…

    And I don’t like chocolate…so vanilla for me I guess! :D

  50. September 2, 2009 11:08 pm

Aww Janetha, I’m so sorry about Mable. It’s so, so hard to lose a pet, and she looked like a total sweetie :(

That salad looks delicious! I don’t have a tattoo, but I think they can be pretty cool (and pretty awful sometimes). I do like yours!

    It depends, but in general–vanilla!

  51. September 2, 2009 11:16 pm

    I’m so sorry about Mable.

I don’t have a tattoo, and I don’t think I would ever get one. But I can totally see why you got one of Mable’s name; it’s a really nice way to remember her.

Vanilla. I used to not like chocolate at all (but now like it more and more…). But vanilla still rules! :)

So sorry about Mable, I hate when bad things happen to special pets :( I have one tattoo and it was done right after I got engaged. It’s on my hip and can be easily covered by bikini bottoms (the tattoo artist was awesome about placing it discretely). I know most people would say it’s silly to get inked where it can’t be seen. But, it’s nothing major and it was more for me than the general public. Chocolate or vanilla depends on my mood…and the time of the month ;)
