flashback friday round four.

August 28, 2009

halla! hvordan er du?

i am channeling my inner norwegian with that greeting in hopes i will be transported to oslo this weekend, but i think the closest i am going to get to scandinavia is in my dreams.

oh well, on the upside it is finally the weekend!  three cheers for that. hell, why stop at three? i would venture to even give it four or five cheers.

i enjoyed hearing your names for objects.. sounds like lots of you name things.. mainly your cars, but some of you name your phones and your GPS units and even your bikes!

and then there was the way you like to eat your veggies.  lots of ways are adored, most of you don’t really care how they are served.. but some of you mentioned roasted and some of you mentioned baked.  some of you mentioned both roasted AND baked.  riddle me this, what the deuce is the difference between roasting and baking? i spent some time googling this on the old blackberry today (while in very important meetings, clearly this quandry was much more important) and the most i could come up with is that back in the day, roasting meant "over a fire" but now days there is no difference at all! you can bake your veggies or you can roast your veggies, both in the oven, they will both come out the same… however i do not think i would ever roast a cake or bake a piece of beef. hmmm.. apparently i have spent a little too much time on this whole baking vs. roasting debate.  thoughts?

let’s dive in.

usual suspects…
meal 1: protein oats @ 8:30 AM

meals 193
i promise you tomorrow you will not see these. i am going to eat something different, it is free day, after all.

if you want a little different breakfast photo action, i will show you what i made for everyone at work today (because i missed waffle wednesday)

meals 191

meals 192

they love me.

meal 2: garbz/chicken/cottage cheese/tomato/ranch seasoning/black pepper/love & green beans @ 12:45 PM (duh.)

meals 194

i officially ate this lunch five days in a row this week. and not a bit sick of it!

meals 195
then i took the old 4Runner to my house, it has been sitting at work for a couple days since i snagged my new car and i don’t think it would be safe to leave the old friend in the parking lot over the weekend. transients roam around these parts! so i took the auto home, fell asleep on my couch for a good 13 minutes and then woke up to my boss honking his horn at me because he picked me up to take me back to work. sigh. still had a few more hours to go!

meal 3: peach cobbler protein shake @ 3:45 PM

meals 202

that is what i am going to refer to this as from now on because it tastes just like peach cobbler! in the mix: 1 freshy fresh utah peach, tons of ice, unsweetened vanilla almond breeze, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder and a plethora of cinnamon!!

meals 203

dreamy.

went home, changed, yadda yadda yadda.

oh, i got a dog bed for the back of the auto~

meals 198

thank you costco, it fits perfectly back there.  no dog hair in the passenger seats (for awhile at least)…

cute, eh?

i am going up to my local snowboard resort, brighton, tonight because there is a big shin-dig called “passapalooza”… well basically season passes go on sale today and they are having a party. any reason for a good time, right? ok.

i will probably pack some dinner for the road, i can’t wait to see how the new subi does going up the canyon! yes! goodbye slow 4runner, hello quick little wagon. i heart you. yes i am talking to my autos. which i now have two of…

time for some flashback friday!  round 4 for those of you just tuning in.

well like i said, i like to include foodie photos in my flashbacks if i can! i was perusing my photos on the old laptop and found something perfecto for today’s FBF! <—i am an acronym AND a palindrom freak, this is both! flashbackfriday will now often be referred to as FBF!!

august 25th, 2006…about 3 years ago to the day!  my buddies used to live in a cabin up at brighton, the exact place i happen to be adventuring to tonight! we were at their cabin more often than not, because let’s face it… being in the mountains is way more fun than being in the valley!  here are some photos i happened to have of that day.

i remember it clearly because it was the day that my dog mable (may she rest in peace) was dog-napped.  yep, that’s right. long story short… my ex who i owned mable with owed dude a whole lot of money and he went to MY house and took MY dog and i had NOTHING to do with the situation nor with said ex. ugh. so that is why i look a tad teary-eyed.

ALSO, we were trying to determine if chips that were “folded” tasted better than flat ones… you know… potato chips? when they are folded? they taste wayyyy better in my opinion!

ok enough ‘splainin.. here are the photos.

janetha: “let’s see if maynard can tell the difference”

summer  (girl in black hat): “you’ll see maynard, the fold IS BETTER”

 August-September 2006 096

janetha: “here comes the chip!”August-September 2006 097

janetha: “BAM, toldja”

maynard (thinking): “she is so right!”

August-September 2006 099

i am a dweeb. but it’s ok.

and then allie fed me cake. because i was so sad :(

 August-September 2006 102

August-September 2006 106

and i returned the favor.August-September 2006 103

oh, and no, we didn’t even mean to dress alike. we just have great minds!

there you have it! that wraps up round four of flashback friday! did any of you flash back? let me know and i will link back to your flashback in tomorrow’s post!! and everyone should participate next week as well!

OK I REALLY HAVE TO GET GOING NOW!

in other news~
tomorrow is a BIG day for national food holidays:

  • national more herbs less salt day
  • national whiskey sour day (again?)
  • national lemon juice day
  • national swiss winegrowers day
  • national chop suey day

WOW i am sure you will find SOME way to celebrate.. and if not.. well then you really can’t call yourself a foodie.  or a swiss winegrower.  so there.

  • in the past three weeks i have drank well over twenty five gallons of water. that is more than five of those mount olympus water cooler jugs all to myself! i would like to thank the little people (ie: contigo water bottles, office drinking fountain & my homie the toilet) for making this possible.
  • i just realized i am set for concerts in my near future!: modest mouse 9/1, matt & kim 9/7, fun. 9/8, the get up kids 9/18, the sounds 10/30. love.

Qs~

1. any concerts in your near future? or.. best concert you ever went to?

2. if you had to eat the same thing for lunch every day of your life (which i do, but don’t have to do)… what would you pick??

see you all tomorrow, have a fantabulous fun filled friday night!

Killer leg workout! You’ll be feeling that one Sunday :)

Hmmm….i’ve been to many concerts but Bush would be my fave because Gavin is hot!

    I could eat oatmeal 6 x’s a day!!!

Wow, what a great flash back and YES the folded chips really are better!! I’m not very good with the questions – sorry xoxoxo.

  3. August 28, 2009 7:20 pm

ooh! i love matt and kim!
    1. no concerts coming up, but the times ive been to see girl talk were amazing! 1 time we danced on the stage with him, the second we met greg gillis after the show and he talked with us for like, an hour.
    2. hmm, i used to eat a yogurt, 2 things of applesauce, and a protein bar every day in high school. now i would say the generic term “sandwich” because i suppose i could mix that up. a cheater answer, sorry!

    1) Best concert – Pearl Jam, Montreal, Sept. 2005. I have seen them 9 times, all of which were fab. This one just happens to stand out.

    2) I think I could eat the lunch I had today every day – raw almond butter with strawberry fruit spread and banana on a whole wheat tortilla, along with a cup of plain Chobani mixed with Stevia and cocoa powder. Sweet, delicious, and filling!!

  5. August 28, 2009 7:29 pm

Fun flashback pics! Warped tour in 05 and Shins in 04 were some of my fav concerts. I would have a wrap everyday – love them.

  6. August 28, 2009 7:54 pm

Yes, the folded chips do taste better! :)

If I had to eat the same thing for lunch everyday I would have to pick spinach salad with avocado dressing (which I eat most days anyway, but I cheat a bit by changing the things I add to it a bit…).

    Happy Weekend! :)

That cottage cheese mess – genius, Lady. Genius.

  8. August 28, 2009 8:08 pm

I would eat a wrap with lettuce, avocado, portobello mushrooms, goat cheese, and other misc. veggies! I could eat wraps day and night.

  9. August 28, 2009 8:16 pm

We WERE going to see Cold Play in London Sept 19th, but it looks like hubby might be going without me. He JUST saw them here in LA with my Dad (how cool is THAT!!!).

I would eat peanut butter on ANYTHING for the rest of my living days if calories were no object :-)

  10. August 28, 2009 8:22 pm

holy smokes, those legs are gonna be on fire! :D i am so happy you found me too! lepetite was my first ever blog, then i spread out to the other two, then girlygirls was hacked — soooo, back to square one. :D

yay for the weekend – have fun at the partay tonight, and i really want to say something like see you tomorrow, but i won’t :( WTF? that needs to get fixed and fast.

unfortunately, no money for concerts at the moment – student loans don’t want to let me have any fun. but i am pretty sure i could eat a PB or AB and banana sandwich every day of my life and not get sick of it.

    happy weekend!!!

Mother F. I hate missing a post of yours! From the previous one, this is what I have to say: SHOOO my goal when I get back to Ohio? Get as in shape as your mom. I’m totes jealous. And I love the pic of you and your baby. Oh, and my first car was named Charlie Webster.

Onward to today! Ooohhh sounds like you’re going to have a fab weekend. I’m still jealous of the cottage cheese chickpea mixture. Er, garbanzo- lo siento! And folded chips are so much better!

Preguntas del dia– Best concert I ever attended: LIL WAYNE and T.PAIN!!! I went in February with Muffin and we had the times of our lives. Shoo, I’m seeing Naughty By Nature on Sunday…for free. Isn’t that insane?

Lunch I could eat always…Healthy or not? Actually, it would just be a huge salad that I could mix up the toppings. With fresh, warm pita and hummus on the side. YUM. With a chocolate chip peanut butter cookie after. Now that would be perfect.

Have a glorious weekend!!! Love you, boo!

  14. August 28, 2009 10:30 pm

I think I might just have to bust out my waffle maker tomorrow morning thanks to this post:)
I think my lunch of choice would involve some kind of homemade hummus. I can’t get enough of it!

    1. No concerts in the near future, sadly, but the best I’ve ever been too was definitely the Flaming Lips. I don’t care if every concert is the same. I love every minute of it. I love Modest Mouse btw.
    2. Hmmm… every day?? Probably pizza. Just keepin’ it real. Plus you can make pizza lots of different ways.

    1. FallOut Boy was probably my favorite. I took my father to see Shaggy once, which was pretty entertaining.

    2. Greek yogurt with some kind of chopped fruit and some kind of luna/lara/balance bar.

  17. August 28, 2009 11:19 pm

haha, baked vs. roasted…jee, I don’t know, but baked always makes me think of something just nicely cooked in the oven, while roasted makes me think of something cooked with a bit of oil, at a higher temperature until nice and crunchy or crispy with a bit of char? I dunno, maybe it’s just me!

And no concerts ard that interest me here yet, but if I had to eat the same lunch…a grilled panini with lots of oozing cheese!

  18. August 28, 2009 11:34 pm

    haha fun pictures!!
No planned concerts.. but best one ive been too….Spice girls reunion! hollla!!

    lunch.
    hugh.ass.salad.

  19. August 29, 2009 12:00 am

i just like the word “roasted” better than “baked” when i’m serving something. it sounds much fancier, non?

i was supposed to see the beastie boys at hollywood bowl….but unfortunately their tour’s cancelled. :(

  20. August 29, 2009 12:19 am

What a cute doggie bed! I wish I had a dog, just so I could get the bed!
The best concert I’ve ever been to would have to be the first Dave Matthews Band concert I went to back in like 2000…I still have the t shirt from it haha!

  21. August 29, 2009 4:40 am

Yay for Flashback Friday!! I will have to dig up some foodie photos for next week. I surprisingly have tons (apparently, I just love taking pics of things I ingest). Folded chips DO taste better too!

The whole roasted/baked debate is like sauteed/fried. In my opinion, it’s all the same, one just sounds fancier. Of course, I’m from Canada, where fried means “in a pan” and not “in a vat of oil.”

    1. I’m getting a media pass for our annual Jazz and Blues fest here. I’m pumped!! FREE concerts! Best one I ever went to was Sloan (one of my fave Canadian bands) 5 years ago. They played at a small club to only their biggest fans and played all the hits!

    2. Umm, pretty sure I eat a pita for lunch everyday already!! If I had to choose what kind though, I’d say turkey and hummus with a crazy amount of veggies and carrot sticks on the side.

    Hope you had fun passapallooza-ing!!

mmm best concert ever has to be backstreet boys when I was young haha. oh and the dave matthews concert this year was REALLY awesome!

lunch everyday? I’d do hmm Idk!! too much pressure!

  24. August 29, 2009 6:39 am

the folded chips ARE better! Dustin makes fun of me for this too, but it works out great since he thinks they’re disgusting. I think they’re perfect :)

The best concert? I just saw No Doubt when they were here, and I loved it. Gwen is so amazing. Second best would probably be my very first live concert–Social Distortion–in which I was almost crushed to death, but managed to survive. My feet seriously didn’t even touch the floor the whole time it was so packed.

I can’t even begin to choose jsut one favorite lunch, but perhaps the salad bar at Whole Foods. I could do that :)

If I had to eat one meal every day for the rest of my life, it will be definitely the balance plate that i’ve been eating 3-4 times a week since I’m in Argentina, and hopefully the “tradition” will continue.

    I’m not a concert person :(

    2) Probably a meatless meatball creation wrap dipped in a bitchload of ketchup OR a perfect delicious veggie wrap/sandwich with PERFECT wheat bread.

I LOVE folded chips!!! They are my favs and I secretly stare at the bowl of chiparoos to find the foldy badboys.

And I can’t really celebrate some of those holidays, I don’t like whiskey sours, bleh…I’m sure I can figure something else out.

    1. I’m seriously hoping and praying for a Kings of Leon concert sometime soon, keeping my fingers crossed.

    2. I totally eat the same thing for lunch most days, classic grilled ham/turkey & cheese, baby carrots and hummus, crackers, and some fruit. Delish!

  29. August 29, 2009 8:15 am

Okay so I meant and forgot to say in my comment to your last post that I love that you found that tea/blogs thingy – so cute! I wish they did the tea one in the same design as the coffee one. Because I am picky. And I love you for having tea make you think of me :)
I am training the boy…it’s 9:00am on a saturday and he has gone out in search of sugar because tea cannot be drank without moo and two.
Now I am seriously rambling. It’s early. I shouldn’t be awake yet.

Oh! Flashback Friday! I had a whole thing planned from photos I looked at last week but then my post was already getting really long and I was late…next week. Because I have plenty of awkward/amazing photos to share :)
I cannot BELIEVE someone STOLE your dog. That is the sketchiest thing I’ve ever heard. Not cool.
I hope you enjoy your free day of yums love.
    Qs
    1) Nothing coming up but the first ever Radiohead show I went to was life changing. Loved them long time.
    2) Ooooh. I would eat leftover christmas roast turkey (not deli), stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwiches for ever.

    Have an ace weekend pretty!

  30. August 29, 2009 8:40 am

Folded chips are better because they make a better vehicle for salsa in my opinion. And chips are solely for the purpose of getting salsa into my mouth.

    1. I went to the Flaming Lips on Wednesday and it was awesome. I’m also going to Depeche Mode next week. The best concert I’ve ever been to, however, was Simon & Garfunkel. I just love their music. I was about 25 years younger than everyone else but that’s okay.

    2. I could eat sushi for every meal, me thinks.

  31. August 29, 2009 8:43 am

Fun fact: My family is from Oslo!! Well, technically a little town outside of Oslo but that’s minor details ;)

My theory is folded chips taste better because more seasoning gets stuck in the creases aka flavor fiesta in your mouth.

    1. LOVED Maroon 5 (ugh Adam Levine) and Nsync – don’t hate
    2. I pretty much do eat the same thing every day for lunch it seems like – veggies with hummus or salsa and some form of sando (cheeeeeese, please!)

  33. August 29, 2009 10:04 am

I have a cousin who I’m close with and she and I would always end up dressed the same when we went out. Even when lived together for a year we would walk out of our rooms and then decide who should go change since we always ended up in the same colors.

    1) You’re gonna kill me for saying this but I’ve never gone to a concert. I mean, yeah I’ve seen Toc Loc, Joe Cocker and Sugar Ray but they were all just playing at other events – not actual concerts….I know I’m pathetic. My dad’s a musician (drummer) too so I have no excuse for not being exposed to music!

    2) That’s a hard one, I’d go with greek yogurt with granola and a pb and banana sandwich. Oh and some chips and guac on the side – need some savory to go with the sweet.

  34. August 29, 2009 10:14 am

I say a silent to the toilet when I’m drinking my fair share of water myself!

My best concert ever?? Hmmm it’s been a loooong time for this mama with two little ones. But my best one ever? I’ll vote for Woodstock ’99 that was nothing but concert after concert of tons of favorites!

And no, no concerts my calendar for at least the next 5 years.

I can’t believe your doggie was dog napped. :( Animals are so innocent, that completely breaks my heart.

  35. August 29, 2009 12:36 pm

I second that! Cheers for the weekend. Looks like you had a very productive week so I’m sure you are happy to get some good rest and fun this weekend.

Best concert ever was going backstage at a DMB show. I didn’t get to meet Dave, but I did meet Boyd and got pics with him. Truly an unforgettable experience.

And 2nd question- Definite Veggie burger salads. I could eat this every single day of my life. I’m convinced. ;)

Hope your weekend is the best girl! Take it easy and have a blast.

  36. August 29, 2009 2:51 pm

Girl! We need to plan a trip to Oslo together!!! I want to go there so bad and see all my family on my Dad’s side!!! Hell yes for Viking pride!!!!
That peach cobbler smoothie sounds bomb. I’m nervous about eating peaches, I don’t know why because their so good.
    1. My fav concert that I can think of right now is most def Rebelution that I just went to last week. Lets just say the music was unbelievable and made 20xxxxx better due to a fabulous substance that I will only take every once in a blue moon haha. shhhh.
    2. I could totally eat eggs for lunch with toast or made into a burrito. And def cottage cheese to go along with it. But that’s only if I hadn’t already eaten them for breakfast.

    1. unfortunately, no :(
    2. ohh tough call.. i’d have to say PB&J sammie or PB&banana sammie or just a plain ol’ PB sammie.. hell… scratch the bread – i’d say a jar of PB for lunch erryday would be great!

  40. August 29, 2009 6:12 pm

Folded chips > Regular chips. Totally.

    Anywhooo…
I have been to soooo many amazing concerts- I’ve loved them all! But I have to say Top 3 have to be Social Distortion on my 18th birthday in New Hampshire, The Dropkick Murphy’s 2007 St. Patrick’s Day concert in Boston, and the Rise Against concert I went to randomly last fall with my bf. All incredible!

And every day? Hmm… I LOVE the Ed-wich sandwich I get at the shop in my town (I ate it today- turkey, spicy honey mustard, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, l+t on basil foccacia) and I’m also a sucker for falafel wraps. Either of those, and I’d be golden.

Oh, and I start BFL tomorrow so I’m trying your Garbanzo/Cottage cheese concoction! Can’t wait!

I am so late to this post! Hope snowboarding was a blast and you lived it up for your free day! Agree 100% that folded chips are WAY better. Huh. Why would anyone question that? Craziness. I never thought about baking V roasting. Gah. Cooking terminology confuses me. I think of roasting as using oil, so by that definition…my veggies are baked. But baked veggies make them sound dry and gross?

    ANYWAY…

    1. any concerts in your near future? or.. best concert you ever went to? Ooooh… the first year of the Edinburgh New Year’s Eve party! There were over 500 000 people in this HUGE street party and it was seriously insane (now they sell tickets because bus stops got trampled, people got injured, etc) Crazy, but unforgettable. I saw Ocean Colour Scene, Babybird and a bunch of acts I was too drunk to ever remember.

    2. if you had to eat the same thing for lunch every day of your life (which i do, but don’t have to do)… what would you pick?? Oh. Tough one. Actually not so tough- whenever I am in the US, I eat the same thing every lunch (dinner too when I can). It’s like a spicy egg/chicken salad made from tofu (called “power-fu”) on a sandwich. AMAZING. You’ll see a photo soon. Or 30+ photos of it. Yes, it’s that awesome. LOVE.

Oh, I went to get the Ranch seasoning- $6 for a small pack!!!!!! I am waiting until I get to NY!

mmm i have to try that peach cobbler protein shake asap. i have not had ONE peach yet this summer, how sad is that?! i am super jealous of well you rock those kinds of hats, btw. when i was obsessed with newlyweds and jessica simpson (it was a phase, don’t worry!), i scoured ebay and every site imaginable to find her EXACT army hat like that. when i finally found it, i decided i wasn’t cool enough to sport it. what a waste of timeee. anywho, you look adorable in them! and im lovingggg the flashback fridays!
