sleeping beauty.

August 16, 2009

dudettes. i have been sleeping my life away today!  i have no idea why i am so tired!  we woke up at the cabin at 10, came home, i slept from 1:00 to 3:45 and then after eating something i went back to sleep for about an hour, the only reason i woke up is because marshall made me, and now i am at his house realizing i shouldn’t go back to sleep because then i won’t be able to sleep tonight!  seriously i am just so sleepy.. it feels like i have mono like i did in the tenth grade!  so i hope i am not sick, just tired, but yeah.. that is my story.

sounds like everyone had fun weekends planned, aside from the whole working thang, i hope the stellar plans were all executed properly :)

answers on friday’s post~daaaang, lots of you have family across the country and some of you across the globe, that would be so hard for me!  too bad nobody has invented a teleporter (yet). and it is official, i must try coconut cream larabar stat!

anyway! how about some recapping..

SATURDAY!

yesterday was my first free day now that i am back on strict, by-the-book body for life.  i like to think i didn’t over do it too much~i mean it definitely could have been worse!

around 10 AM i had a bowl of kashi go lean crunch w/ unsweetened vanilla almond breeze and black coffee in my cute new J mug!  $5 at TJ maxx, holler.

IMG_3479IMG_3478

normally, i would pour a huge bowl and go back for more.  i measured out one cup exactly, ate it, and stopped there.  satisfied my cereal craving :) (i didn’t have cereal for 6 whole days, that is crazy for me!)

marshall finally woke up and around 1:00 PM we went for a late brunch at jeremiah’s in ogden, somewhere i have been before. i got some black coffee and two eggs over medium with dry wheat toast

IMG_3481

IMG_3484

i have been craving runny yolks all week, so that is what i got!

IMG_3486

after brunch we headed to the time traveler’s wife.  i loved it!  it was fabulous. marshall bawled like a baby.  he said he had to hold his tears back to the point of his eyes hurting and then he just broke the seal.  he is a tender soul :) i have only cried at one movie in my life and that was marley & me… what can i say, i am a softie for the poochies!

after the movie i did manage to satisfy another craving~ice cream! i had exactly four bites of this delciousness (with a fork, no less):

IMG_3488

i could have easily eaten the entire container so my will power was definitely put to the test. self control wins this time, haagen daaz!

IMG_3487

then it was time to head up to my friend’s cabin!  well, by cabin i mean dope house in the mountains.  i was in charge of dessert so we snagged the ingredients and then headed up to the cabin.  marshall has a DVD player in his car which is nice, we watched i love you man on the way up and i snacked on some snap peas & carrots

IMG_3490

that movie is hilaaaarious! watch it. i dare you.

i made two desserts once we got to the cabin…

fruit pizza

IMG_3496

peanut butter bars

IMG_3497

and then it was hang time!  among the snacking was 7 layer dip

IMG_3493

lovingly made by lindsay & allie~

IMG_3492

fruit, cheese & crackers (the cheese & crackers are in the background next to my PB bars)

IMG_3505

these chips that i had last weekend which were way good so i bought them again:

IMG_3494

and then my good buddy neal cooked for us!  i have posted about his amazing cooking skills before, it is always a treat when he cooks for us!

IMG_3498

on the menu was:

  • lamb tenderloins with mint chutney and red wine reduction
  • young potatoes with rosemary and garlic
  • roasted portobello, onion, quash and red pepper

here are some shots of the cooking process/food:

IMG_3504 IMG_3506 IMG_3515 IMG_3525 IMG_3533 IMG_3534 IMG_3535 IMG_3537 IMG_3538

IMG_3539

it was amazing. times seventy three.

of course i managed to have some fruit pizza and PB bar bites for dessert~

IMG_3545 IMG_3544

haha, see that photo up there? my friend bayley (on the left) said, “this fruit pizza is the best thing i have ever eaten in my life!”

fun photo time!

this looks like it is my leg huh? it is allie’s. optical illuuusion.IMG_3526

games

IMG_3510 IMG_3511 IMG_3512 IMG_3520

and then we adventured in the woods!

IMG_3561

IMG_3547

good times had by all.

SUNDAY!

we got up around 10 like i said before, snagged a coffee on the way home.  we bailed early from the breakfast at the cabin (french toast, omelettes and mimosas) because i did not want to be tempted to go off track since today is not a free day.  the biggest problem with taking my free day saturday is getting back on the BFL wagon sunday, it is so easy just to take the whole weekend off.  but i am determined!

meal 1: 5 egg whites & a cinnamon western alternative bagel + LCL wedge @ 11:30 AM with extra cinnamon of course

IMG_3569

k gave me the excellent idea to pair LCL with the cinnamon bagel. muchas gracias senorita! very tasty.

i slept my face off for a few hours, got up and had meal 2: plum & protein drink @ 3:30 PM

IMG_3571 IMG_3570

and yeah, back to bed for an hour, then it was up to marshall’s place and i am watching weeds (season 2, way behind) and as soon as it cools off i am going to go for a run! i have HIIT scheduled today but it is just too hot at the moment. i have my running clothes on already, just waiting for the sun to go down.  then i will exercise and come back and eat again.. in case you were all wondering the game plan.

*EDITED TO ADD:*

well i figured i would throw this on here because then it completes today’s meals & moves and i can start fresh for monday.

i ended up running 3.2 miles n 27:08 which is an average of 8:29 minute/mile.  average HR was 158 max HE 177 and 223 calories burned.

after hitting the showers i whipped up meal 3: 10.6 oz (two containers) oikos 0% + apple pie larabar

IMG_3573

a little calorie-dense but i have barely eaten today because i was sleeping all day!  so i figured i needed it.  this packed 34 g protein/35g carbs/10g fat.  still balanced, but higher stats than usual. weighted in at 340 calories.

*END EDIT*

this is long enough, so nothing else to ramble about for now.  my google reader is up past 100 so sorry about my MIA-ness, weekends will do that to ya ;) i will work on that.. if i don’t fall asleep first :)

OH! giveaway this week. stay tuned!

Qs:

1. do you prefer running inside or outside? at morning or at night? alone or with company?

2. favorite game? card game, board game, any game at all?

I like to run outside but that doesn’t happen often in this Mississippi heat.
I would prefer a friend to help motivate me when I want to quit…but often I am alone :(

  5. August 16, 2009 8:27 pm

I want to read the book before I go see the movie! Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
1.) I prefer walking outside with a friend.
2.) I like Scrabble and Taboo!

  6. August 16, 2009 9:18 pm

I want to see that movie. I cried while reading the book. And don’t even get me started on Marley & Me. I was BAWLING. Like audible sobs.

    I prefer to run outside.

I like Trivia Pursuit, Scattergories, Taboo, that kind of game.

  7. August 16, 2009 9:27 pm

aw man it sucks to sleep the day away but whenever it happens to me, i always think that my body must be desperately craving rest and who am i to say no?!?!

cabin looks so fun! i am amazed at your self-control on your free day. girlie you rock!!!!! i wish i had some of that willpower. i am also seriously impressed by that gourmet cooking…at my friend get togethers, food is usually burgers or pizza or some random app spread, definitely not lamb and bellos and roasted potatoes! looks like neal has some sick cooking skills!

  8. August 16, 2009 9:45 pm

Hey Janetha! What kind of crust did you put the fruit pizza on?! Looks so good!

Fave party game is “spoons!” Ever played? Best drinking game ever!

  9. August 16, 2009 10:11 pm

mmmmmm runny yolks sound so good right now.
omg i want to try those chips sooooo bad. jealous!!!
looks like you had a fantastic time :D
i prefer running outside unless it is way too hot. i like to run without sun in my eyes too, but light out. early morning or sunset is great.
fave game … eh. sims 3 count? LOL. or wow. lol..

I like running outside. I will be bummed when the weather is uncooperative in a couple months. I have never had a running buddy. So, I guess I have no way of comparing alone or with someone. Mallard and I have run together a few times. But, his legs are so much longer than mine it’s hard for us to keep the same pace.

  13. August 17, 2009 5:11 am

All of your eats from your par-tay on Saturday look awesome! Especially those desserts – ohmanohmanohman!

I think you are doing the right thing listening to your body – sleep if you are tired! If you were getting sick I think sleeping is a probably going to fight it off if that’s what you feel like you need!

So now your questions. Let’s see.

    1. a. I prefer running outside
    b. definitely the morning
    c. I don’t mind running alone but company is always fun, especially on long runs.

    2. OMG I LOVE Mad Gab! That came makes me laugh so hard. It’s one of the few grown up games we own.

  14. August 17, 2009 5:16 am

Looks like you had soo much fun at the cabin! The food looks amazing I’m so jealous! I also really need to get on the fruit pizza train. Looks amazing!

As for running, I love early morning runs when its nice and cool right after the sun comes up.

And I love games! Dirty minds is my fave board game but I’m also a fan of apples to apples and cranium. I also love card games! Fun fun!

    Have a great week!

Can I just say that I am salivating over all that food…especially the PB bars! Oh boy…literally – virgin salivator over food porn right here. Your friend needs to be on Food Network – that food looks incredible!! I have that sleeping issue sometimes, too, but usually mine is when I’ve been eating too much [crap] food. I don’t think this was your case, but sometimes we just need sleep!

We have “I love you man” from Netflix waiting to be watched. That’s on the agenda for tonight! :)

I tend to run on my treadmill at home a lot, but yesterday I ran outside for the first time in a long time and I realized how much I missed it. I am definitely a morning runner!

  17. August 17, 2009 6:15 am

All that food at the cabin looks AMAZING. Great job with the desserts, lady!!

I am definitely an outside runner, I love doing it super early in the morning (when I can drag myself out of bed!), and I like to alternate between solo runs and runs with someone else.

  18. August 17, 2009 6:46 am

dude. ette. haha your friend is a straight KILLA in the kitchen! I don’t have friends that can do that! Or anything close to that.

you were SO good this weekend! way to let HD know whos boss.

Ummm I think I like both types of running? Right now I wish I could do one of them atleast! haha

I love love love games. My friends and I play ALL the time. We really like taboo (although that usually ends in some kind of physical fight), and I love scattegories and battleship! But there’s SO many other ones I can’t even think of right now.

    uhh holy long comment haha

  19. August 17, 2009 7:25 am

So glad your taking advantage of sleep! I wish I was able to sleep sleep sleep. For some reason lately I’ve been waking up at 7:30AM no matter what. But actually yesterday I did go back to sleep from 9-10. Great eats girl! I think today I am going to add a cinnamon roll LARABAR to my yogurt. It sounds sooooo good!!!!
Your little get together with your friends sounds like a blast and great job sticking with your eating plan. Great willpower. I just hate how sometimes eating plans interfere with fun times. Your friends are super similar looking to my friends hahah, at least the guys.
Have a great Monday girl and I’m psyched about your giveaway!!!
    1. I hate running. So I don’t do it haha.
    2. I love monopoly and playing kings when everyone wants to get loose with some drinkies!

I love all your pics of you and your man! You guys are so cute together; you look like the perfect combination of fun/extreme-sport-action (don’t know why, you just have that look) and foodieness! I would love to hang out with you, I’d probably be laughing non-stop.

I’ve been having some sleeping issues too: blogging till 4 am, waking up at 2 pm xD
But I’m so happy you like the game. You are so sweet! I’m just a little down, cause I thought I’d have more entries :(

  21. August 17, 2009 8:37 am

DEFINITELY try the coconut cream pie Lara! I don’t like coconut (or at least I thought I didn’t) but I love that bar!!

You are going to LOL in real life when you see my post tomorrow morning! Just wait for it ;)

That’s so cute that Marshall cried at the movie! I’m not allowing myself to see Marley and Me because I KNOW I’ll cry like a baby.

Glad you liked the LC/bagel combo!! I also like using it on cinnamon raisin bagels too – tis delicious!

    1. Either inside or outside – inside is easier on my 85 year old knee. Morning, alone :D

    2. I LOVE Life, I don’t know why. If I see it, I have to play it!

    1. i don’t like run much inside or outside.
    2. fav game: a chinese card game!

  23. August 17, 2009 11:06 am

I’m dying to watch The Time Traveler’s Wife!!! I’m borderline obsessed with Rachel McAdams.

I just played Taboo for the first time this weekend–so fun! Like Catchphrase but better.

  24. August 17, 2009 11:32 am

SO much amazingness in this post: Time traveler’s Wife (also obsessed with Rachel McAdams), coffee ice cream, fruit pizza! I missed your posts this past weekend:)
    1. I am kind of an anywhere runner, although I think I have learned to love the outdoors. I like going solo in the morning so that I can gather my thoughts for the day.
    2. I am a huge fan of Scattergories due to my minor obsession with alliteration. Mancala is pretty fun too.

  25. August 17, 2009 12:59 pm

Eeeeeeeeeeeek! Those PB bars look so good girl – as does the fruit pizza! Fancy coming up to MN to make me some? Pretty please?
Glad you had a baller time at the cabin/mansion. I love those times – not enough had by me this summer.
Congrats on indulging on your day off but not going crazy – must be really hard not to just go mad and eat everything “bad” in sight! Good on you girlie.
Oh and woop woop for having a friend that is an awesome cook to make yums for you. I heart me some lamb.
    1) I MUCH prefer running outside. In fact, I generally dislike the treadmill for anything over 2 miles! I like running alone in training and with a friend for races but I think I need to give the company-in-training thing a go because I’m sure it would make the long runs go super fast!
    2) Any kind of word game. I am a word game geek!
    Hearts ya! xxx

  26. August 17, 2009 1:40 pm

Mmm all those tasty party eats look awesome…peanut butter bars….I want some! :)

Good job hopping back on the bandwagon, and also for controlling yourself so well on your free day too!!

    1. Definitely running outside, with company. Motivation at its finest, but it doesn’t happen that I get to run with anyone often.

    2. I love the game of Life, Bullsh*t card game, the card game Spit…lots of em! :)

  27. August 17, 2009 2:05 pm

WOW!! it looks like you had an INCREDIBLE time!! ookk can i PLEASE have one of those PB bars :) ahhh looks soo good!!!!!!!!!

    get some rest love xoxoxox

  28. August 17, 2009 2:38 pm

I’m with the majority, PB bars please!

I like to play euchre and I LOVE my treadmill. It is nice to get outside every now and again but i’m a morning cardio person. During a prep though i”m an evening one as well…ugh.

  29. August 17, 2009 2:44 pm

Holy ballz, that “cabin” and that dinner are GORGEOUS. I am living in jealous city.

And yes, yes, I want PB bars! You must post that PB bars recipe STAT.

    1. I think I prefer running outside, but I always run on a treadmill. I get nervous running outside in case of needing help, needing my inhaler, needing water… Basically, I am a nervous nelly!
    2. Scrabble! I own face, if I can toot my own horn. Pretty much any word game is great fun, though.

    2. I LOOOVE Mad Gab!

  31. August 17, 2009 3:19 pm

At least you are awake now!

Favorite game? Currently speed scrabble. Much faster paced and fun than the regular version.

  32. August 17, 2009 3:25 pm

    sweet headband/flashlight! haha!

ok fruit pizza is now on my to-make list…or i could just crash your fab foodie partays. why do you always have a m.f.ing posse up in yer casa!

ps i dont think you overdid it, i think you had some bomb treats amongst healthy bites. its the freakin wekend yo?!

i like running outside, but i like in a shitty weather coast now, so i am forced to gym it. i prefer running in the afternoon, i need food energy, but also…ummm…ya know (digesting-things) to happen ;)

  33. August 17, 2009 3:35 pm

Looks like you had a super fun weekend…good food plus good friends always a winner combo! :) It’s mad…everyone seems to be super sleepy at the mo….maybe there’s something in the ‘global’ water?? lol

I like to run, inside and outside, morning and evening….anytime, anywhere as long as I have my tunes it’s all good!! I run with a running club…but on my own!? As in…I’m all anti-social and stick my headphones in and just plod along in the middle of the huddle….being in with a big group does help to push you though….you daren’t stop, simply for the shame factor lol

I must say…I am equally impressed impressed with your super good free day eats…I woulda soooo ploished that ice cream off…no question, and I don’t even particularly like ice cream??

  34. August 17, 2009 3:47 pm

I just found your blog and hello funny! You cracked me up. I think my favorite part of I Love You Man (a movie I didn’t intend to see and ended up laughing so hard at that I snorted multiple times) is the “later Jobin” comment. Oh god, Paul Rudd. Marry me.

The fruit pizza and peanut butter bars look amazing! And I agree, you did an amazing job for a free day. Please send even 1/1118th that motivation towards my way (esp. when it comes to PB bars. ugh. so good).

Re: Running – I like outside better because I feel it’s more legit and trains you if you’ll be running in races. The treadmill is helpful for when it’s too damn hot (like right now in Rhode Island. woof).

Re: Games – so fun! I love scattegories and cranium and the old school games (like Mall Madness, classic). I onced played an epic game of Balderdash that lasted for a good 3 hours. And Apples to Apples = amazing. Ok, I’ll stop now!

Point being, I dig your blog :)

what i INTENDED to say was:

i vote you invent a teleporter so you can send me those pb bars.. kapeesh?! please and thank you!

have a good one boooo <3

  37. August 17, 2009 4:24 pm

That’s good that you’re sleeping! You must have needed it! All that food does look amazing. Now that I’m a carnivore I’m drooling over that pork :P

    1. Ahh, me and outdoor running had a strained relationship at first because I learned to run on a treadmill. But now that I’ve discovered fun trails (and not busy streets) I absolutely love running outdoors. I’m kinda dreading having to head back inside when the snow arrives! Oh, and I’ve never ran with anybody else. I don’t really like talking when I’m working out though – I get in “the zone.”

    2. Scattergories!! Have you ever played that before? It’s def. my fave. I’m old-school and like Monopoly too. But that’s probably because I sometimes cheat :P

  38. August 17, 2009 5:02 pm

What an awesome weekend! That food made me drool, seriously. I’ll bet your tired from your weekend! No harm in sleeping it off;)

I like running alone in the morning best. I like running with friends, too, but running is so therapeutic to me, so I prefer to go it alone. Great post!

  39. August 17, 2009 5:12 pm

Hi Janetha!!! Sorry you’ve been so tired; I can relate…I’ve been a zombie lately! I want to eat the peanut butter bars you posted. Seriously, I want to eat the whole freaking pan…they look bomb!!

I prefer to run with company, outside, in the evening. I actually like it better if I run in the morning, but I feel like I have a better workout if I go in the evening.
