winner winner chicken dinner.

August 1, 2009

yep, my title is another phrase that makes no real sense.  i laughed at the ones you guys mentioned in my last post. maybe there is some history behind the title actually.  maybe someone really did win a chicken dinner at one point, but not today.  today someone won my giveaway!  more on that in a minute.

first i must bore you with my life ;)

FRIDAY!

dude.  i don’t know what was wrong with me after work.  i walked around my house wondering what i should do.  should i take a nap? should i go to the gym? should i eat? should i go shopping for the baby shower gift?

i knew i should go do my lower body workout but i was just having a hard time getting motivated.  i couldn’t figure out how to find the motivation so i began to snack.  this is bad.  i don’t know what got into me!

meals_thumb

good news! i found a new flavor of western alternative bagels!  cinnamon to be exact, and you know i love my cinnamon.  i toasted it and topped it with justin’s cinnamon peanut butter

meals 248

cinnamon explosions all around.  i probably shoulda put more on top!  then i proceeded to eat a whole watermelon.. but it was a little personal sized one.. well at least i consider it personal sized :) straight from the melon to my mouth with a spoon.

meals 250

hmmm then i think i munched on some kashi go lean straight from the box, after vowing that i wouldn’t do that, woops.

i decided to try a new product to make use of my random snacky behavior and had this amazing grass bar

meals 251

i think energy bars should contain more protein than 5g’s.  just sayin.

meals 252

to be honest, none of the stats impressed me. high in carbs, low in protein and 9g’s of fat.  i could find a better way to eat 230 calories.

meals 253

although the ingredient list was long, the items on there were decent.  how about the taste?

meals 254

i liked it. a lot. it tasted like a candy bar to me, maybe because i haven’t eaten candy since last december and i have forgotten what actual candy bars taste like.  i know lots of you hate these and also lots of you love these.

i am in love with the taste but not in love with the stats so i probably won’t purchase this bar.  i like the stats of the drink mixes amazing grass offers more than the bar stats.

thanks to amazing grass for sending me this sample to review!  i am glad i now have a solid first hand opinion of this bar i have seen and read so much about!

after all that carby snacky intake i needed protein or i knew i was going to keep snacking.. so i just had a protein shake made with EAS protein powder (chocolate) which is 27g’s protein mixed with ice and 8 oz of unsweetened vanilla almond milk..

meals 257

i love the taste of EAS protein powder.  call me crazy, but i do.

then i decided to open my reader and read some blogs, putting off the gym even longer, by this time it was 8 PM.  geez.  what was i thinking?  well luckily the third or fourth post i read was therese’s and she wrote, ”Just because it’s the weekend is no excuse to take a vacation from the gym.”

she was right.

i already had my gym clothes on, i had put them on right after work in hopes it would motivate me to go, but it didn’t, so i was all ready to go.  i packed up my stuff i needed since i was staying over at marshall’s and i hit the road.

i stopped at target and TJ maxx before working out because i had to snag some gifs for the baby shower before the stores closed.  by the time i finished that it was 9:30 PM~no, i was not going to gold’s gym that late on a friday night.  i went to my mom’s!

moves_thumb

her gym is glorious and i hope to one day inherit all the equipment!  also, i plan to use her gym when i finally get around to taking photos for my “moves” page.  i will have her take photos of all my usual workout exercises so you can all see what the stuff i write about actually looks like.  one of these days.

i didn’t take photos of my workout last night but i did take a few shots of her gym so you can see~

whew. i got done with this at about 11 PM.  it wasn’t the most intense workout and it wasn’t that fabulous but it was a workout none the less.  it is like  my mom always says, “something is better than nothing”!

and my legs are sore today, so that is a good sign.

meals_thumb

after my workout i had some oikos w/ granola & kashi

meals 247

the granola i used was apple crisp from sunflower market, try it!

meals 249

SATURDAY!

today is my “free day” as far as eating goes and my day off from exercise.  i am really stoked i haven’t missed a workout all week!  that used to be normal for me but now since i have been sick and a slacker i have missed quite a few workouts.  i am glad i have stuck to my schedule, even if it means working out until 11 PM on a friday night!

we were going to go to breakfast this morning but marshall’s room has no windows and we both slept until 10:30!  it felt nice. i had to hurry and get ready for the baby shower so marshall went out and got me a whole wheat bagel & coffee this morning, he is a sweet boyfriend :)

meals 270 meals 269

i love bagels. love love love them. i am glad there are western alternative bagels so i don’t have to give them up during the week!  if you love bagels you should really try this brand.

the baby shower was fun times! silly games, gifts and some food.  here is my plate, i ate a bite of that egg roll (made from scratch, my friend who is expecting is asian and her mom made them!) and i ate all the rest of the stuff you see..

meals 271

hmmm let’s see.. after the shower i went to target and bought some clothes for work, it is so hot out still and they already have the fall clothes! um no thanks, i got some dress shorts and a couple tank dresses.

i met marshall and the dudes at costa vida and got unsweetened iced tea & a small chicken salad

meals 273

there is chicken under there. it had lettuce, rice, black beans, chicken, pico and tortilla strips. oh and guacamole. this was probably about 7” in diameter. i love that they offer the small salad because the other popular spot that is just like this place, cafe rio, only offers a HUGE salad. this one is just perfectly sized.

meals 272

ok ok ok now i am caught up!

NOW i can announce the winner of my giveaway!

*drumroll please*

entry #3! haha can you believe it, 93 entries and it picks number 3!

the winner is sarah from finding my balance and she wrote:

“Oh, cool! I have wanted a Sigg bottle for a long time. I’m keeping my fingers crossed on this one!

My design would be: smoked pearl bottle (second choice red) with DRINK! printed in the rosewood font.
I always forget to stay hydrated, so having a cool, environmentally safe bottle will help.

I’ll let you know when I link back! Happy 100th!”

well sarah, no need to wait any longer, the SIGG is yours! the crossing of the fingers worked.  send me your mailing info and i will pass it along to the amazing people at greensender!

thanks to everyone who participated in my first giveaway! it was real fun and i found a lot of new blogs to peruse just from the new comments!  i already have my next giveaway planned, it will be in 18 days so stay tuned!

and a big thanks to greensender for donating a SIGG bottle to my blog :D

okay, i am going to get off the computer now because marshall just informed me that randy (yes, the basset hound) told him we need to have a blog intervention for momma.  haha.  i better shut it down before they take the laptop away :P

hope you all are enjoying your weekend! i have the culinary charity event tomorrow and i look forward to recapping that!

questions:

1. how much does it cost to fill up your gas tank? how long does a tank last you? it costs me $40 and it lasts 6 days usually. i drive 35 miles to marshall’s house a few times a week. blah, i want a teleporter!

2. does your significant other/family/friends give you grief for the time it takes you to blog? poor neglected boyfriend of mine…

Lol you are so funny, Janetha!
And hell yeah I am JEALOUS of that spankin’ gym! If I had a gym like that I would be one pumped-up rock-hard gal.
And…you just made me crave watermelon like crazy.

  2. August 1, 2009 7:17 pm

omg is that seriously her home gym??? That is crazy awesome!

  3. August 1, 2009 8:46 pm

Your mom has a ridiculous gym! I’m looking forward to the pictures of you explaining the moves, I have to admit that sometimes I read your moves and it reads like a foreign language. Maybe it’s because I’m such a slacker when it comes to strength moves, I call it a hardcore strength workout if I complete a 30 day shred video.

Argh filling up the tank! I missed driving in Belgium but I drive so much here to work and such that I feel bad for being such a gas guzzler. Usually it costs me like 25 dollars for intense 5 days and a little driving on the weekend. I have small car though, and it’s pretty fuel efficient.

Congrats to the winner even tho I’m very jealz of the prize!

My tank o gas is $26 (Civic) and lasts me a week and a half. Holla. A giant improvement over my Jeep Liberty!

Hubz doesn’t give me too much shit about blogging. Just enough to be sweet. :)

  6. August 1, 2009 10:06 pm

DANG GIRL! Good for you for working out that late! Usually if it’s past 6 or 7 I’ve given up! haha.
Is that a gym your mom owns or is it just in her house. I AM like you – super jealous!!

It takes me $35-45 to fill up (obvi depending on the price of gas!) and lasts me about 1 1/2 weeks. You’re crazy for driving all that way to Marshalls!

Loved seeing you in the gym and having a partner to talk to while I made myself sick on the treadmill from walking/running to close to stuffing my face with chinese food!!! Sad I didn’t win your first give away – but can’t wait for the next one! Are you kidding, do I even blog anymore??? I love to read others! xoxxoxo oh the gas thing – $45 to $50 and sometime twice a week, yikes!!

  8. August 1, 2009 10:46 pm

Holy shit – your mom’s gym! Thats in her HOUSE right? omg, I wonder how much all that equipment cost – she could probably charge you and your family members a “membership” fee to use her gym and recoup costs LOLOLOLOL. I’M SUPER JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to start piecing together a gym – just a treadmill, bench and DB would be enough for me to be able to quit my membership! I’m constantly scoping the craigslist FREE ads b/c i’ve seen ppl who are like moving from the area and need to get rid of their treadmills/bikes/ellipticals – one of these days i will have a house and will be able to snap one of those freebies up!!!!

    1. how much does it cost to fill up your gas tank? how long does a tank last you? about $30 now. my tank lasts about a week and i have a hefty commute to/from work

    2. does your significant other/family/friends give you grief for the time it takes you to blog? my friends used to give me a hard time when I was trying to post EVERYTHING I ate on a daily basis…I decreased my posting and so its better now, I agree :) plus wordpress is fast and I love keeping “drafts” in order

  9. August 2, 2009 4:05 am

Your mom needs to start charging people to use that gym – she could make some sweet moulah!!! Thanks for showing the stats on that Amazing Grass bar too, I’ve been hearing such awesome things about it, but am now not so interested. I know it’s all “natural” but 27g of sugar is pretty steep too. Most ice creams don’t have that much.

    1. It usually costs me around $30 to fill my tank, and I usually fill it when there’s still 1/8-1/4 of a tank left. Probably every 10 days? I don’t drive a lot, just to work and for running errands. I live a 20 minute walk from downtown, so I usually just walk if I want to go there – I can’t parallel park!

    2. I get the “look” from my boyfriend sometimes if I’m doing blog stuff when he’s around. I’ve started writing a lot of my posts before he shows up so he doesn’t have to sit there and watch me write :P He more often makes fun of me for taking pictures of my food in public. Whatevs, I have no shame!

I don’t like the amazing grass bar’s stats either and in term of taste, it’s a little too sweet for me. but definitely like its chocolate superfood! :)

    1. I think my car has a small tank, so it fills up with <25.
    2. I live alone so it doesn't matter. but now I"m with my bf, he's such a sweet heart that never complains! :)

You are right- something is better than nothing! And obviously if you are sore you did better than just something :)

Good job on those obliques! I must say I have pretty strong ab muscles but obliques on the other hand kill me!

And yay for Sunflower!! They have a pumpkin granola I’ve been dying to try.

And I couldn’t agree with you more on that bar! it tastes like candy but I wish it had more protein :(

  12. August 2, 2009 7:24 am

I’m a cinnamon lover, too! Oh, if you don’t want to eat the rest of your superfood bars, I can take them off your hands ;) Haven’t been able to try any Amazing Grass products yet!
Your mom’s gym is freaking AWESOME. I hope you don’t pay for a gym membership…I would just go to her house!! Cooooool.

  13. August 2, 2009 7:59 am

I kid you not – I bought those cinnamon bagels for the 1st time yesterday so I’m SUPER excited to try them!

Your mom’s gym is NIIIIIIIICE! That’s so convenient!

    1. Probably about $30 if I go from empty to full. Right now I don’t have to drive that much so it lasts a while.
    2. No one knows so no grief :)

  14. August 2, 2009 9:31 am

ahh cinnamon, it is one of my addiction’s too! i douse that shiat on everything.
your intensity to work out 9:30 on a friday night deserves a gold star fo sho!

Hooray for cinnamon bagels! Reminds me of my cinnamon raisin toast :D Your mother’s gym is AWESOME! It’d be so nice to just be able to stay in the house and get your workout done. I liked the chocolate superfood bar as well, but I wish they had more protein in them as well. Maybe we could write that to them? That’s partially what reviewing a product is about :D

    1. Oof.. I have no idea. I think around $30? I know when I’m down in FL it’s more though! But luckily, I don’t have to drive a lot.

    2. Nah, my parents think it’s really sweet, and it gives them a way to keep up to date. Or atleast have pictures to go along with the stories I tell them. It doesn’t really take time away from anyone though. If anyone is bummed it’s Matilda lol.

Oh girl I’ve been there! Most Friday’s I spend my entire work day debating whether or not I should hit the gym. Glad I could be your kick in the pants lol. I ended up going to and getting in a killer lower body workout. My quads and butt are still sore :) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    1. $25 bucks on a good day.. i’ve gotta a sweet little corolla circa 1992 — but it’s pretty legit on gas.

    2. family? boyfriends?! what’s that ;) jk jk.. but yes, my mom thinks im way too much of a bloggin’ fiend. cant help myself!

  18. August 2, 2009 2:12 pm

i’m so freaking jealous of that gym! :)

    penelope :D

  19. August 2, 2009 3:28 pm

good thing you werent reading my saturday recap instead, because it would have read something like “must go to gym. no motivation. stop fussing. will go tomorrow.” LOL! props to getting in the workout!!!!

i love those bagels!!!! have you tried the perfect 10 ones by western alternative? they are POWERHOUSES and keep me full for ages and ages because there is a ton of fiber and protein. and only 10 carbs! if not, you should try them out!!!

  20. August 2, 2009 7:04 pm

AS IF your mom has that gym! Yes I am completely in awe and jealous. Humf.

Great eats all round to goggle over. I want to try those bagels – am in love with bagels but haven’t found a good “healthy” bagel that I love yet. Your salad looks awesome too. Yummerz girl. Yummerz.

1)It costs about $25 to fill my tank and it lasts about a week. I can’t believe you have to drive 35 miles to get to marshall’s! No way!!
    2) I do get some grief from the hub occasionally that the blog is stealing my attention and affection but usually he’s too busy geeking it up himself to mind :)

  21. August 2, 2009 7:45 pm

your mom’s gym is SICK i’m officially the most jealous person in the blogosphere actually the world!

i LOVE cinnamon alternative bagels!! so good :)

WHAT!!!! Your mom’s gym is insane! I love it! Holy shit, I can’t imagine how much that costs/ how long it takes to acquire that, but it would be so worth it. I think I’d work out all the time. Maybe.

Thankfully, I don’t drive for 75-80% of the year. Actually, this year I’ll be driving 6 weeks out of the whole thing. No clue how much it costs to fill up anymore, and I only ever put $10 in at a time. It makes me feel better.

MamaJ doesn’t mind the blogging time, but whenever I’m home and blogging, I just want to rush through posts so I can chill with her, no computer distractions. She helps come up with post titles and such, though. Miss her :(

I hope you have had a lovely Sunday and your week gets off to a great start! Lord, I did not mean to use “gets off.”

  23. August 2, 2009 8:08 pm

Ooh I like those western alternative bagels. And I thought that Amazing Grass bar tasted like a candy bar too, even though it was too caloric for me.

Your mom’s gym is awesome! And I can’t wait for when you do a guide of how you do your exercise moves. That’ll be so cool!

    1) I JUST got my own car, so I currently don’t know :)

    2) hmm… not really. Sometimes my mom is like “have you blogged yet?” or “do you have to blog?” but nothing bad.

  24. August 2, 2009 9:32 pm

i always refill my gas when it’s half-full so that it doesn’t look as bad when i’m done pumping. it’s only $15 now! i fill ‘er up every 5 days-ish…

i’ve heard so much about amazing grass but have still yet to try it…

  25. August 2, 2009 11:32 pm

omgosh your mom’s gym is ridiculous!!!! LOL i am soooo jealous.
i love the western alternative bagels but they are so dang expensive.
    1. it costs about $35-40 right now to fill my tank, but im going 20$ at a time bc im low low low on money. i have to get premium so its always hard. im just glad gas is under $3/gal right now and hopefully stays that way since my mileage will be picking up come aug (drive 2 hours 3 days a week on the hwy to school)… bleh.
    2. my bf just laughs at me blogging. lol. no one else really has caught on to looking at my blog. my dad looked at least once or twice but i dont know if he is keeping up to date. its possible he is but i have no idea.

Hmmm I found this about your title “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
The legend tells that years ago every casino in Las Vegas had a three-piece chicken dinner with a potato and a veggie for $1.79. A standard bet back then was $2, hence when you won a bet you had enough for a chicken dinner. !”
So, the call of glorious victory rang out “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner ” I also read its what the casino stickmen yell out during craps if you win. :-)

  29. August 3, 2009 9:40 am

    woah! Kick ass gym…love it!

I drive a little accord so it doesn’t take much to fill up my tank. Maybe $30?! I’m usually too cheap to fill it up all the way and will just put 10 here and there…maybe 15 if I’m feelin good that day.

It takes FOREVER to update blogs huh?! Fortunately no one is on my back about it except for myself telling me to hurry the hell up!

Hope your Monday is going well dear. LOVE YA <3
