yard for sale!

June 27, 2009

holler! i am sitting here in the sweltering heat selling my belongings as old as ten years.. items that i could never part with because “maybe i will wear it someday”… yeah, guess what? if i haven’t worn it in a decade, chances are i won’t be wearing it out to the next party i go to.  it’s a hard reality to face.

this morning has gone good! i have already made over $300 off of clothing alone.  and not even half of my stuff is gone.  why do i have so much stuff?!

let’s talk about eats!

at the end of my bottomless pit day on thursday i had a mixed cereal bowl with pb puffins, TJ’s fiber worms (that’s what i call em) and tj’s honey almond flax 9 grain. with some UVA breeeeeze.

meals 016

FRIDAY!

i started the day off right with a proper breakfast. alternative bagel w/ LCL, 1 egg+1 egg white & some pepper jack cheeeeese

meals 018

and then for the sake of getting to my fab dinner quicker, here are the rest of the eats..

meals 020

meals 022 meals 021

yes that is just shredded chicken. i need to go grocery shopping like woah!

marshall took me out to a greek spot for dinner. it was voted the city weekly’s best greek restaurant this year! we have been before, it is amaaazing.  it is called aristo’s.

meals 024

check out the salt. it was fancy.

meals 025

we started with some coffee to warm up from the flash flood rainstorm that happened while driving to the restaurant. utah is crazy.

meals 027

the appetizer was a hummus plate (obviously)..

meals 029

marshall is not a fan of hummus, yeah, he is certifiably insane, but he LOVED this!!

meals 030

meals 032

i had a cup of lentil soup that was served with red wine vinegar which was a nice addition!

meals 035

lentils, celery, carrots, deliciousness!

meals 034

notice the polished hummus in the background!

my main dish was the greek salad with chicken souvlaki

meals 040

the feta was sooo fresh and crumbly and fantastic. and i ate my own weight in pita bread. so?

meals 039

and marshall had the chicken souvlaki plate with potatoes

meals 036 meals 037

that tzaztiki was TO DIE for!

yum, thanks for the delish dinner marshall!

after dinner we went to the CD store next door and checked out used albums for awhile. i ended up with:

  • vampire weekend
  • reggie & the full effect (promotional album)
  • built to spill
  • le tigre

all for 30 bones. score. spent the rest of the night prepping for the yard sale!

SATURDAY!

well this morning was a rushed one. we got up at 7 and laid blankets down for the yard sale, made coffee, hung up signs all over the place and as we were setting out our merchandise around 8:15 people already were showing up even though we advertised it to start at 9:00!

in the rushed moments of it all, there was no time to eat. when there was finally a break in the flow of people, i made a much needed, much missed parfait ala k!

meals 042

it had some fage 0%, a dark chocolate dream vitatop and a glob of PB&Co dark chocolate dreams. lots of dreamy chocolateness going on here folks!

meals 043

like my new kicks? i do.

the rest of the morning was spent bartering and basically giving stuff away for dirt cheap.  meh, oh well.. i don’t need it anyway so i may as well make a buck where i can.

i am hungry for lunch now though!

we just packed up for the day.. four hours of porch sitting and i managed to make $310! hooolllllleeeerrrr!

it was fun because my sister & her 3 girls & her husband got into town last night from california, but said they had no time to make it to the sale. my mom showed up and said they had already gone to the party they were heading to.  i was bummed.. but then a few minutes later they all showed up! i love surprises like that :D

okay sorry this is rushed and not very word-heavy.. i have LOTS to do! menu planning and grocery shopping for the bbq at my parents’ tomorrow. that brings me to my questions:

good cold salad recipe for a bbq?

good side dish/finger food recipe for a bbq?

good baked beans recipe?

good dessert recipe?

that is what i need to decide on before i go to the grocery store.. so gimme your suggestions!

hope everyone is enjoying your weekend!! xoxo

You made $300 dollars?? dang!!I need to have a yardsale!

Your meals look yummy as usual.. that breakfast looks mouthwatering!

  2. June 27, 2009 2:43 pm

getting rid of old stuff is tough…but can’t go wrong when $300 is in your pocket!

Love love LOVE Greek food- chicken, feta and tzatziki are a combo sent from the Greek gods themselves. Between that and greek yogurt, I could quite happily pack up and move to Athen’s. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that Marshall hates hummus- more for you! Though he might want to get some help…’tis not normal and if he hangs with you, he clearly has fabulous taste so something is amiss.

good cold salad recipe for a bbq?

an amazing one is spinach and ricotta tortellini, then after cooking mix it into a dressing made of 1/2 chopped (canned) tomatoes and 1/2 mayo (I bet yogurt would work. Another AMAZING one is rice, cooked chicken, raisins, pineapple, chopped red pepper and a dressing made from equal parts coconut milk + mayo, spiced with curry powder (maybe tumeric too?) Then throw in some toasted almonds and coconut. HEAVENLY!

good side dish/finger food recipe for a bbq?
mini roll-ups? turkey/swiss, goats cheese/cranberry/spinach, hummus/grilled vegetables? mini crustless quiche? savoury muffins (spinach + feta, sundried tomato and basil, goats cheese + caramelised onion?)

    good baked beans recipe?
    open tin, heat, eat

    good dessert recipe?
BANOFFEE PIE! Can you get condensed milk there? If so, this is freaking amazing…

    • June 27, 2009 8:28 pm

i looked up banoffee pie and that looks SO good! my mom requested something chocolate but ive got to make this sometime. thanks for all the suggestions! the tortellini thing sounds phenom

Oh man I am such a Greek Food whore haha. I love that stuff so much. I really wanna find a good tzaziki recipe so I can make loads of my own. That restaurant looks to die for. Where is it? Maybe I should go there for dinner when I get to SLC.
    Good Dessert Recipe?
MAKE THE WHITE CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY BLONDIES!

    • June 27, 2009 8:28 pm

coco, it is up by the university on 1300 east and 200 south. SO AMAZING!

  4. June 27, 2009 3:40 pm

Make dat money, honey!! I haven’t had a yard sale in years but I could seriously open my own store by now. I’m a pack rat!

Your proper Friday breakfast looks fantastico! I’m torn on this Marshall doesn’t like hummus situation – on one hand, he’s clearly insane but on the other hand, that means you get all the hummus to yourself!

YUM to your parfait!! I need to get some more Vitas!

good cold salad recipe for a bbq? Pasta salad (veggies/pasta/italian dressing) or spinach salad with a shit load of fruit (strawberries/blueberries/pineapple/etc) and walnuts?

good side dish/finger food recipe for a bbq? HUMMUS….hello! ;)

good baked beans recipe? I don’t do baked beans so sorry!

good dessert recipe? tiramisu OR strawberry pretzel jello – sounds crazy but it’s BUENO!!!! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Strawberry-Pretzel-Salad-2/Detail.aspx

    • June 27, 2009 8:29 pm

haha yes, you are right it does sound crazy but i am all about being loco ;)

  5. June 27, 2009 4:09 pm

Glorious dinner out, and congrats on the yard sale!!

OOOO that chocolate greek yogurt breakfast is callin’ my name!

My mom makes a great pasta salad using feta cheese, sliced cherry tomatoes, penne pasta (WW), spinach, and mixes the whole thing with Newman’s Own balsamic vinagrette…it’s so easy and delicious!

  6. June 27, 2009 4:28 pm

I LOVE Greek food… there’s a Greek restaurant in Boston that I’ve been meaning to try.

The parfait looks awesome – double dose of chocolate, yum!

  7. June 27, 2009 5:19 pm

built to spill?!?!? i love them! i thought i was the only one in the world that has ever heard of them =)

    Ya girl!! Makin’ moneyyyy!!!!

That hummus looks CRAZY good, can’t believe your boy isn’t a fan of it….the horror!!! haahahah….

That parfait looks amazing too, and I dooo love the shoes! I’m always a fan of the strappy/gladiator-like sandals! :)

And i’m useless, i have no recipes. But I DO know that a bowl of fruit salad is always easy to bring, any type of baked apple (CRUMB YUMMM) pie is amazing, anddd you can’t go wrong with a hummus/guac or salsa dip for pita & tortilla chips! :)

  10. June 27, 2009 7:01 pm

Vampire Weekend and Le Tigre!!! Love em both! Never heard of the other two, I will have to check them out, seeing as we like a lot of the same music :)

Okay, I know I’m late with the recipe suggestions, but you have to try this one: http://recipes.menshealth.com/Recipe/southwestern-quinoa-and-chickpea-salad.aspx It tastes like hummus, but in salad form :)

Greek food is my fav!!! That meal looks fantabulous! No worries, I eat my weight in pita bread everyday, and I’m still alive :P

Fibre cereal will henceforth be known as “fibre worms”

  15. June 28, 2009 7:40 am

holyyyyyyyy amazing food! i love love loveeeee greek food and that looks INSANE. lucky you!!

ps whenever i read your blog and read about marshall i think of how i met your mother and marshall from that show hahaha

  16. June 28, 2009 8:58 am

oh man I forgot about how great Greek Food is!! that restaurant sounds just delicious :)
oh.my.god. that yogurt combo sounds insanely good!

  17. June 28, 2009 10:52 am

Almond butter, hummus platter, and big blobs of chocolate PB? I just want to grab a spoon and dig in! :)

Congrats on your successful yard sale. Don’t you just love cleaning out your house? So nice to get rid of old things – very cleansing!

Fiesta corn dip (http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Fiesta-Corn-Dip) is always a huge hit at BBQ’s as well as this recipe for grape salad: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/recipex/msg0717054716723.html.

Neither are very healthy, but if you want to go more that route, how about a huge bowl of massaged salad: http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/recipes/raw-lemon-miso-salad/ or a hummus dipping platter with fresh veggies and pita chips.
    Have fun!
