fiesta!

June 11, 2009

yo girls. and boys if you are lurking about. how’s the weather? salt lake city is wet. wet wet wet. you know what is bad about rain and being me? wet bottoms of my pants. a misfortune i am doomed to deal with for the rest of my life.. true story. i wonder if it will ever stop raining? i am hoping yes, i need some sun and some pool time and i am supposed to be going to a water park on saturday. 50% chance of rain. i think i’ll just plan on a rainstorm. i didn’t want to venture outside at all this week or anything…

sooo.. yesterday i did a little bit of working out right after work!  easiest way to get myself to the gym–straight from work.

upper body workout!

overhead tricep cable extensions: 3 sets of 15 reps @ 35#

jumping jacks: 3 sets of 30 seconds, did these between the above exercise

cable bicep curl: 3 sets of 15 reps @ 65#

oblique crunches: 2 sets of 34 & 1 set of 32= 100 reps, did these between the above exercise

upright barbell row: 3 sets of 15 @ 30#

standing side crunches: 3 sets of 20 (10 each side) with 25# plate, did these between the above exercise

dumbbell chest press: 3 sets of 15 @ 30#

bench tuck crunches: 2 sets of 15, 1 set of 20 = 50 reps, did these between the above exercise

single arm dumbbell rows: 3 sets of 15 each arm w/ 15# db

ball crunches: 2 sets of 25, 1 set of 80, did these between the above exercise

whew! good workout. and i already have DOMS in my chest today!  for those of you who don’t know what DOMS is.. it stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.  it typically shows up 24 to 48 hours after a workout. could come sooner and could last for a long, long time. like my hamstrings still are killing me from monday! but it hurts so good :)

after my workout i ended up here..

oh, what’s that you say? you can’t tell what the sign says because of the intense amount of raiiiin? i went to costco. oh and yeah that is a dog collar hanging in my rear view mirror.  it actually was the collar that my lab, mable, was wearing when she was hit by a car and died :( i like to keep it hanging there though, makes me happy.

i grabbed a bunch of stuff for the luncheon we had today. more on that in a second. i also ran to target but they were remodeling the whole grocery section! everything was all sorts of disheveled and so i bought two dresses and a piggy bank instead. oops!

and i had a fuji

that meant i had to go to another store to get some groceries.. which i did.. and then finally made it home. i only had about 50 minutes to whip up all my food for the luncheon because i had a movie to catch. luckily i had my trusty new knives marshall got me for my birthday!

and i had 3 roomies helping me chop/cook/etc. which really worked out well for me time-wise.  although i didn’t manage to get my shred in, aww shucks.

i bolted up to marshall’s just in time to catch the hangover.  yeah, it is as funny as you have heard. go see it. i dare you. double time.

you may have noticed a lack of food photos thus far on my post, eh?  well that is because i didn’t really have anything proper for dinner. i had a few bites of fruit and the pasta salad i made, and then i ate maybe nine gallons of popcorn at the movie and proceeded to guzzle half a gallon of water to flush out the salty nonsense i had just ingested.  i then went to marshall’s and preyed on his bowl of wheaties like a vulture. so what?

THURSDAY!

woke up today knowing i couldn’t have a humungo bfast because the luncheon was scheduled for 11 AM and i ate breakfast at 8:00.  but i really wanted a parfait, which is not giant but is still filling, meh, i had one anyway!

blueberry almond parfait ala k!

this was bangin’. be jealous of my taste buds because it was heaven in my mouth.

  • oikos 0%
  • bluebran vita
  • crunchy almond butter

i really wanted some hot blueberries to put on top, but due to my blueberry avalanche the other night this was impossible. darn.

okay so i only have 12 more minutes to type this, and a whole fiesta to recap,, so i shall do so via photo fest! yayer..

as i said before we have these mexican dudes that makes the authentic-est carne asadaness evvver. so, this is what they made:

carne asada

grillin’

beans

rice

cabbage slaw

spiciest salsa on the planet

and this is what janetha b made:

guacamole (avocado, lime, cilantro, tapatio, tomatoes, red peppers, green chiles)

multigrain food should taste good chips

pasta salad (farfale, grapes, apples, celery, chicken, crushed pineapple, poppyseed dressing)

fruit + dip (most fattening dip ever: cream cheese, fresh whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk & vanilla extract)

haha, like my sign?

my mom came for lunch again! she was camera shy, or actually i just failed to photograph her. but here is my plate:

closer..

yeah i have a bit of a carnivorous side when it includes the most deliciously marinated carne asada!!

a few hours later i was feeling weird. i didn’t know why. i felt gross. then i figured it out. lack of vegetables.  yep.. that was it. so i fixed up a glorious vegetable plate + hummus..

i can’t decide if i like eating my hummus with broccoli or cauliflower better. it’s a toss up.

alright WELL the reason i am in such a hurry is my RAD friends paid for my enrollment in a thai cooking class tonight at sur la table!! YAAAAY!  i am so excited, i have never taken a cooking class! i think it will be a super dope time. you can bet i will share the recipes sometime or another!

ok well i have not even had a minute to spare today because of the fiesta + work so i have not caught up on all your fab blogs, but you better believe i will tonight after my class!

hope you are all ready for the weekend because it is almost heeeere. yes.

oh! how about some questions?

1. what is hanging from your rear view mirror and why? mine is mable’s collar, as i showed earlier.

2. what is your favorite vehicle for hummus? while i can’t decide on what veggie my fave is, it is for sure veggies in general. i don’t love eating hummus with chips as much as i do with fresh crispy veggies.

It’s super sunny here! Hope it stays that way for my wedding! I love your fruit dip sign, it’s adorable! I don’t like a meal with veggies or fruit either, it doesn’t feel complete!

  2. June 11, 2009 6:11 pm

Whoa, I just used waaay too many exclamation marks.

  3. June 11, 2009 6:23 pm

DUDE! It’s raining like craze here! It’s the end of the world – I better start building my arc! My guy friends saw Hangover on their bro-date last weekend and wouldn’t stop quoting or fist bumping all night long!

Your fruit dip – I make some just like that! Except mine is cream cheese and marshmallow fluff! Bahah so good but so bad! Your guac is divine!!

Purple cauli!! YAY!! For your Q’s: 1. Nothing :( I used to have a parking permit and a lei hanging from my old car (in high school). 2. BIG ASS SLICED MUSHROOMS are my edible utensil of choice!

By the way, I just noticed your tags ‘parfait ala k’ I feel so loved! ;)

  4. June 11, 2009 6:40 pm

oh man, one of the worst things in life is wet bottoms of pants. I always wear capris or shorts or a dress or anything that will not drag the ground when it rains, because that just sucks!

I am soo mad that I have not seen the hangover yet. EVERYONE is talking about how funny it is. I need to see it, just so I don’t look like a complete loser when everyone is quoting all the funny lines and I have no freakin clue what they are talking about! haha.

I love the spread for the luncheon girl (especially the little sign for the dip) I would have to say that I LOVE veggies with hummus, a little more than chips, I’m with you.

AND I have my tasle hanging from my rear view mirror, but I’m think about taking it off because it makes me feel like a highschool grad instead of a college one. haha.

Hope your having a great day my dear! <33

    Bahaha at Sarah’s comment.

Yes, my taste buds are uber jealous of yours after that parfait.

I’m boring and have a parking pass for the university hanging from my rearview mirror. I’ve searched everywhere for a little Hawaiin lady to put on my dash, but I have yet to find one.

Favourite vehicle for hummus is my finger! Or pita bread (obvi…)

No time for chitchat…must catch next flight to Utah to crash Mexican fiesta…

  6. June 11, 2009 7:01 pm

Hey the fiesta was so great!! Those dudes really do know how to cook (and Sarah, I am an exclamation point junky!) The salads were delicious and I passed on the wonderful fruit dip :(
Back on your other questions, I am NOT a morning person, but love it when I HAVE to get up because then I get way more done, but I LOOOOOVE to sleep! I don’t have any cute items hanging from my mirror, but I have plenty of other crap in my car, you name it, I probably have it!

Can’t wait to hear all about your cooking class, wahoo!!

  7. June 11, 2009 8:40 pm

Hahaha I love that comic. That cloud (and its posse) was totally all over Michigan today.

That parfait is total food heaven. Love the luncheon foods! Cute dip sign, too :D

    1) Nothing– My mom’s car has her work hang tag, though.

    2) Broccoli! Mmmm!

  8. June 11, 2009 8:49 pm

I can’t read your blog at night while I’m training. It makes me HUNGRY!!!! Girl you eat so good. Yum. YUm. YUM!

  9. June 11, 2009 10:41 pm

It’s raining here too (summer? what’s that again?)

Your pasta salad puts mine to SHAME! Lol. Everything looks great

I don’t have a car (or drive- I have a bus pass though :P ) and as for hummus…favourite vehicle would be mushrooms I think? Though I love wraps filled with sprouts, veggies and hummus!

aww i hate clouds!! but that cartoon is soo cute :) and your eats look AH-MAZING girl! I’m so jealous of the guac and carne asada and rice and fruit and EVERYTHING!!

  12. June 12, 2009 8:06 am

    1) I prefer pita chips for my hummus :)

    2) a fake hawaiian lei & string of rhinestones are hanging from my review mirror (rhinestones are from my late grandmother’s sewing kit – she made all of my mom’s baton twirling competition costumes when she was a child & the lei, well its just purty and helps me find my car in the sea of silver civics) :)

  13. June 12, 2009 9:19 am

I totally hear ya on the wet pant bottoms! I’m on the shorter side myself, and I used to get SO annoyed whenever that happened! I’m learning to just roll with it haha. Small, yet fun-sized right!? ;)

I have an old air freshener hanging from my rear view…it’s shaped like a high heeled sandal, so it stays!

I love red pepper slices dipped in Sabra Roasted Red Pepper (or Cedar’s)!!

YUM! Have a fabulous weekend girlie!

  14. June 13, 2009 4:27 pm

Ohhh!!! I LOVE the parfait and chips & guac shot so, so much!!! :)

And I’d say that I prefer hummus in sandwiches and wraps!! No matter what else I throw into the wrap or sandwich, it ALWAYS tastes better with hummus!
