any chelsea handler fans out there?

image

[source.]

well, this blog post has nothing to do with her. sorry if you got your hopes up. this is actually all about me. i know, i am so conceited.

image

i am also available for hire for all your image editing needs. clearly i am a pro.

because i haven’t blogged about any day-to-day happenings all week long, i decided to update you on what’s going on in my life lately! and other tid bits, of course, because what is a blog post without tid bits?

i have fallen in love with a pea.

no, not this pea.

image

(although i do love her.. and she is the reason i bought the pea i have fallen in love with.)

THIS pea:

IMG_8246

olympian labs vanilla pea protein powder.  it has a great nutritional profile and it is vegan (not that i care, but i know i have several vegan readers).

IMG_8247

105 calories, 1g carb, 25g protein and 0g fat. also, not sure if you can see, but there are a total of 4 ingredients. that is pretty legit for protein powder. it’s sweetened with stevia, but it must have enough vanilla flavor in it for me not to taste the stevia (it is the last ingredient) because i LOVE the taste of this. it does have a somewhat gritty texture, but in a good way. a grit that i like. it’s hard to explain! but i have been enjoying a pea protein shake for breakfast many mornings this week.

IMG_8251

this particular off-colored smoothie had:

  • 1 cup silk almond milk
  • 1 scoop pea protein powder
  • ice
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries & blackberries
  • tons of spinach (that’s why it looks like swamp water)
  • xanthan + guar hums (about 1/8 tsp of each)
  • enough water to get things moving

handheld breakfast that keeps me full for over four hours.

IMG_8253

my co-worker got a puppy.

some people get baby hungry. i get puppy hungry. look at this guy!

IMG_0705

oh my goodness. his name is dexter and he is a little over 7 weeks old.

IMG_0689

the breeder called him a miniature boxer, but the vet said he is a boxer-pug mix. who cares what he is? HE IS SO FLIPPING CUTE.

and tiny! check him out on my desk.

IMG_0799

okay. i know. that was overkill on the photos.. i couldn’t help myself.

lots of bagel sandwiches are being consumed.

i love bagel sandwiches and am so glad i bought a bag of onion bagels the other day.

IMG_8290

i forgot how great they are!

IMG_8291

what makes the sandwiches even better is that i slather the bagel in this stuff:

IMG_8303

my new found love.  slightly spicy, slightly sweet, full of tang. trader joe’s knows what’s up.

i am still doing insanity.

some have asked.. WTF is up with insanity, janetha? well, i am still doing it! with randy’s help, of course.

image

i just took a week off while i was sick. to make things easier, i started back up on sunday because i had left off on the previous sunday. it just made sense with the way the workouts are scheduled.  let me tell you, taking a week off from working out all together and then hopping right back into month #2 of insanity IS REALLY FREAKING HARD.

it has been hard for two reasons.

one: mentally.  it is hard for me to take a whole week off from working out and then get back “in the zone”.. those hour-long intense workouts are definitely a challenge to get through mentally, but they are getting easier as each day goes by.

two: endurance-wise.  the muscle/strength parts of insanity aren’t more challenging, but the cardio part (which is the bulk of the workout) is TOUGH stuff. i read somewhere that you lose your cardio endurance a lot faster than your muscle memory, so when you get back to working out.. cardio is tougher than strength training. yep, that’s true, i will vouch for that.

it will be interesting to see how i do on the next fit test. i have full intentions to finish out the challenge strong! it will just be one week later than originally planned.  side note: i realize i haven’t updated my insanity challenge page in weeks. maybe i will get to it this weekend…

i got a bike!

this was the purchase that i eluded to in monday’s post!

IMG_0782

i got the specialized myka and picked it up yesterday.  marshall and i went for a spin last night—he recently got a specialized bike, as well.

IMG_0774

yes, i am super talented and can take iphone photos while biking. (actually it was pretty difficult.)

i already had a single-speed road bike and really hated riding it. why? well, for one.. it had one gear so hills were a biatch. and two, i am a baby and think road bikes are scary. every little pebble i went over with my road bike sent me flying. with my new bike, i can go over all sorts of terrain without worry.  well, except rail road tracks. those kind of worry me…

IMG_8299

anyway, YAY for bikes! we actually just got home from an hour-long ride.

i tried jimmy john’s for my first time.

we rode our bikes to jimmy john’s for dinner last night. they were out of wheat bread, so i decided to get an “unwich”, which is the sandwich innards wrapped in lettuce.

IMG_0780

my thoughts on the unwich? tasted great.. but it was NOT FILLING. at all. i ate it and was still super duper hungry, so i ate again when we got home. i will have to go back to jimmy john’s again sometime and get a sandwich with bread, because i took a few bites of marshall’s roast beef sandwich and it was delicious.

well.. that’s what’s been going on in my life lately. oh, and i’m almost 28. yikes. my birthday is on wednesday the first.  i am asking marshall for really exciting things like a towel rack for the bathroom and for our light switches to be changed out.  i think the older i get, the more practical (and boring?) i am.  the best part is that i am totally okay with that! i am going to have a BBQ bash over the weekend to kick off my birthday week, though, so that should be fun.

before i go, i wanted to mention that one of my dear friends, christine, works with rescuing dogs.  her blog is called hearts to the rescue.  awhile back, they rescued a bunch of sussex hounds from a shelter that was about to put them down.  they are being boarded while they try to find foster or permanent homes for the pups.  artist jacqui faye has painted an amazing acrylic portrait of the hounds. it can be seen here, along with more of the story.  it is expensive to board these hounds until they are placed, so i wanted to share the link where you can donate to the sussex hounds fund. also, the acrylic painting is for sale all all proceeds will go to the hounds! every little bit counts for these sweet pups. thanks!

well.. time to go make dinner.

Qs~

1. do you have a bike? what type?

2. how do you like to celebrate your birthday—all out or keep it mellow?

Oh my gah – puuuuuuppppppyyyyy! I don’t have child ovary pain, but definitely have puppy ovary pain. I say this all the time. We are alike.
I want a bike so badly. Congrats on the new purchase!

  2. May 26, 2011 7:38 pm

that puppy! OMG. I am dying. I am showing Andy his picture right now. I need him in my life. Or any puppy really.

I want a beach cruiser. A lot of the girls at the school I went to have them and it makes me jealous. We live in a completely un bike-able town. Very po-dunk. It is sad.

  3. May 26, 2011 7:42 pm

I had the unwich from Jimmy John’s last night!! :D it was SO good, but you’re right, not filling (I got the veggie…) Their wheat bread is amazing. so soft and GOOD.

I love chelsea! we went to see her live a couple years ago – sat in the front row and had a blast! she is NASTY in her stand up shows!

I still cannot get over how CUTE dexter is… I LOVE the one of him standing on your desk!

  4. May 26, 2011 7:42 pm

    What I need-

    *Dexter
*That mustard sauce (I scour TJ’s and can’t find it)
    *To try Jimmy Johns
    *A bike

I’m a HUGE Chelsea Handler fan. I just finished her book. Holla.

Oh my god. That puppy has the most adorable face. Awww. So cute.

Huzzah for bikes! I don’t know what kind of bike I have. It’s old, but really nice and I got some mountain bike tires on it. It’s sweet.

  6. May 26, 2011 7:49 pm

Ooooo congratz on the bike! I couldn’t LIVE without mine. There just isn’t any other way to get around the big city where I live…who wants to take a hot sticky subway in the summer, YEESH!

And I’m super jazzed to try that protein powder…I use sun warrior now but im getting tired of the chalkymooshyness…definitely needing a change. I’ll let you know if I give it a whirl! :)

  7. May 26, 2011 7:51 pm

Oh My GOSH!!! Your co-worker’s puppy is the CUTEST THING EVER!!!!!

  8. May 26, 2011 7:51 pm

Oh man, I’m in love with that puppy. I’ve got puppy fever/puppy envy lately. I want one so bad!

Nice bike J! I miss having my bike around because bike rides are so much fun. I’m with ya on the road bike issue. I went with a hybrid bike because true road bikes are too scary for me.

I love the picture of you with MamaPea – but my goodness, how tall is she?? She’s either REALLY tall or you are really short!!

I keep seeing all this Trader Joes’ stuff that I want. I need to make a list so that if I ever get to go to one (closest is 5 or more hours) then I can remember to buy all these fabulous things I see on blogs! I may need a U-haul….

Love that bike – it is very very nice! And thanks for the link to the rescued dogs – I am gonna go check it out!

  11. May 26, 2011 7:58 pm

Oh my goodness that puppy. It took me like ten minutes to even get to the comments section because I can’t stop staring. That is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Please post more pictures. How do you get any work done?? I would just sit around playing with that little guy all day!

Ah that puppy is sooo cute! My neighbor’s dog had puppies last month, and I spent over an hour cuddling with little yellow lab puppies a few days ago. I do have some type of mountain bike, but I really don’t ride it that much. I should though!

  13. May 26, 2011 7:59 pm

Thanks for the powder rec – that looks awesome! Have you tried baking with it?
And I’m with ya on the pups – babies do nohing for me but I can’t get enough puppies!!!

  14. May 26, 2011 8:05 pm

aaaaawwww! dexter is so cute! I’m with you on the whole baby vs. puppy hungry thing (plus you can put them in a crate when you go out… heee hee).

Jimmy John’s is my most favorite sandwich place. I like the beach club, because it has turkey and avocado spread (though I wish it was real avocado).

AAnd congrats on getting a new bike! I have no idea what mine is… I’ve had it since I was like 13 or 15… but it still works great! I feel like I’m 9 again riding my bike to my friend’s houses…

  15. May 26, 2011 8:05 pm

That puppy!! Oh, I want to HAS one.

    1. I love my bike! I’ve been biking a lot lately, actually. I have a hybrid and it’s perfect for my needs.

    2. I like a mellow birthday. My birthday this year was on Super Bowl Sunday, so it wasn’t exactly mellow, but I wasn’t really the center of attention either, so it was fun.

  16. May 26, 2011 8:19 pm

I won my bike at Vitamin Cottage….its rusty colored…great brand but hmm I forgot the name of it :( Bdays at 43 I just am glad to be alive ha! No I get waited on hand and foot by the family…out to eat or a good fall hike in October.
HAPPY BDAY and no you are not boring…practical is good! I checked out the Chelsea Handler book b/c I had heard so many awful things…well it was terribly funny and awful…she does need a filter. Its safe to say she has more issues than most…ha!

  17. May 26, 2011 8:28 pm

I didn’t know jimmy johns had an unwich! I should try it!

I have a cruiser bike that I ride leisurely. I haven’t rode it in a couple months though since I almost got hit by a car. But I think I’m ready to go out and ride again.

  18. May 26, 2011 8:28 pm

I’m always afraid to have birthday parties, because what if no one showed up? Super paranoid here.

I have a super fancy bike I won in a contest two years ago. I just got it fixed up and fancy, but I still have never ridden it. I have a problem.

  19. May 26, 2011 8:34 pm

havent owned a bike since i did a triathalon which was about 10 yrs ago. well, i owned it but never rode it and sold it on CL about 3 yrs ago.

    love your new one!!

“slightly spicy, slightly sweet, full of tang. trader joe’s knows what’s up.” = i have seen that before, now i know i need to buy it not just hem and haw over if i really need another jar of mustard :)

good to know on the pea protein, also another hem and haw b/c i fear “earthy” or “Dirty” tasting. Good to know it’s all good.

    Lovin Dexter. Omg. ADORABLE! :)

curious what brand the bottle you are using for your smoothie is? I’m looking for a travel container for smoothies (everything seems to be for water or coffee) Does the straw come with it? Thanks!

  21. May 26, 2011 8:36 pm

Hey, you are waterskiing in your livingroom- dang girl you can do anything! And where are your helmets? The puppy is butteryfly in the tummy cute. Wow 4 hours on the pea protein? MOre filling than whey????? The un-wich sounds un-appealing and sad to have to come home and then eat- believe me, I’ve been there too many times.

Yes, I have bikes from my bike phase of my fitness craze about 10 yrs ago. My favorite road bike I used to do a lot of centuries on (a Trek Y-foil- super rad cool looking thing- looks like it’s from outer space) and my favorite mountain bike is a dual suspension lefty fork Cannondale raven not sure if they make them anymore- another one from outerspace. I used to be all crazy and I’d go flying off gnarly single-track trails until I realized that I didn’t enjoy that much stress when I was supposed to be having fun! So I roped it back a notch or two and just enjoyed the trails rather than trying to stay clipped in as if my life depended on it. Anyway, moving on- they were a pain in the ass and it’s just easier to put on sneakers and go to the bleachers, a class or a walk!

Love you and I might go a bit awol but I still love you to pieces…

  22. May 26, 2011 8:36 pm

My heart skipped a beat when I read you were in love with me. And then you dissed me and said you were talking about the powder. Fine, whatevs. ;)

    Love you too!

1)bagels, esp onion bagels are amazing. they’ve been one of my most fav. foods since I was like 2?

    2) hOT BIKE! ow ow! soo purty

    3) adorable puppy. i old the Boy I wanted a puppy tonight. too bad I am a) too poor, and b) not ready for that responsibility. maybe a cat, then?? :)

    4) pea protein is the ish!! love that stuff, but I have never tried that brand!!

    5) i’ve always wanted to try the unwich from jimmy johns!!

    6) love you! and you are SO inspiring with your workouts!!

Love your bike….white bikes look awesome! I am too scared to ride myself because drivers over here hate cyclists and will just run you down. My boyfriend is a very keen cyclist though….his bikes are worth more than our cars and have their own insurance policies! He actually got one bike frame from San Diego when we were over there and we had to carry it with us for the whole holiday….this was not fun for me but saved him a heap of money over buying it here.

Dexter is gorgeous but I am a little worried about how the mother and father pug and boxer actually bred?? That is a MIGHTY size difference there! He is gorgeous nonetheless and I now have puppy envy!!

  26. May 26, 2011 9:23 pm

That mustard looks like something I’d like…I can just imagine what it tastes like! I think my mom won a nice bike in a contest when I was in uni, so I used to ride that when I was home for summers! It was quite enjoyable

  27. May 26, 2011 9:31 pm

    1. I wish I had a bike!
    2. I’m a mellow celebrator; I feel silly making a big deal out of something that is just about me.

Yay!! for your new bike!! love it! lets go for a ride!

  31. May 26, 2011 10:13 pm

  32. May 26, 2011 10:34 pm

(Is that a cheese wedge hat in your living room?)
I bought a bike from an online bikes-direct store over spring break. My bf worked as a bicycle mechanic for 7 years, so he has no problem putting it together for me. Except… he’s been finishing up his masters degree and has had no time, so it’s been sitting in the box in the garage for over 2 months! :( It’s a road bike- not single speed!

    • May 26, 2011 10:36 pm

      Sent from my iPhone

Ha, you know I love you and wouldn’t want you to lose that conceit.

Sweet ride!!! I had a foldable bike which I’m in love with. Its ride better than any other bike I’ve been on!

Oh, and I can totally understand you about insanity. Ha, and I only did it once! BARELY! And with the best cheerleader by my side! You are in fantastic shape. The shower pics show it!

  34. May 26, 2011 11:11 pm

I LOVE bikes too…have a road bike. But omg don’t know which made my eyes water the most…the puppy or the bagle. dexter is pure unaldulterated cute overload, I canNOT get over those pics! Bagle looks nice too, though, hahaha 8-)

  35. May 26, 2011 11:45 pm

I want to try pea protein! It’s hard to find a vegan powder with more than 18ish grams protein, so that sounds awesome. I don’t have a bike, though I’d love a road one!

I’d just like to remind commenters that adopting animals from a shelter, rather than buying one from a breeder, is one of the most kind and humane decisions you can ever make. You literally are saving a life. Adoption is also far less expensive. Also, there are breed specific shelters, and there are always adorable little puppies up for adoption.

  39. May 27, 2011 2:34 am

dogs scare me, but that little dexter is just about the cutest one i have ever seen…if only i could find one that stayed that size! adorable expression in his eyes!
my bike is 17+ years old, specialized, too. you know – the thing that holds me back from contemplating tri training is the BIKE part because biking is a bit terrifying! i think i need your one speed…but i actually got my bike out of storage and hope to use to do short errands this summer.
my bday celebrations are mellow – i just like being the boss of my day and doing my favourite things. enjoy your pre-bday weekend!!!

Good for you with getting back into your exercise routine…it is always hard when you take a week off. YES!! I LOVE bike riding. I go every Sunday around the lake (which is about 9-10 miles). SO much fun! I have a Trek Mountain Bike.. can’t remember which series or whatever.

I usually keep my birthdays pretty mellow with a family dinner and a few drinks with friends. Nothing exciting!

    Happy almost Bday!

I love Dexter!!! I wish we had Jimmy John’s in MA. I see it all over the blogs. I could just make it myself, but I don’t roll like that.

i’ve got a road bike, which i really need to spend more time on! hopefully this weekend :)

Oh my that pup is adorable!

Jimmy John’s? We have them and it’s OK, the wheat bread for the veggie sandwich is really good but huge. Once in a while we’ll go there.

Ahh TJ’s hot & sweet mustard YUM YUM YUM!

Not too familiar with Insanity but I have heard about it and I give you HUGE credit for doing it. You go! I do Turbo Jam and would like to try Turbo Fire and ChaLEAN Extreme. Have you done those?

Have fun with the bikes. Kev and I have thought about buying bikes but the one I want is the Cruiser and you can’t ride those anywhere around here, too hilly. I just dream of a Cruiser with a basket LOL He just rolls his eyes but I’m telling you it will come in handy when we relocate to the beach one day. I know I’m dreaming right now!

And birthday’s….I make them last for a WEEK! Enjoy yours!

I don’t know how you got anything done at work with that cute little guy around. I feel ya, I don’t get baby happy, it all about the dogs for me too!

I have a craptastic walmart bike. Used in the duathlon I did and won’t ever do that again. I like specialized bikes. We have a KHS manager around the corner from us who gives us killer deal. New bike to come, hope so!

My birthday is a like a big gift to myself. Since I was 19 I have done something for me every year. Bought myself a pretty ring and it has gone bananas since. 25th bday I wanted to be in NY in Serendipity and I was! This year, big 3-0 I will be in Europe. Haven’t planned it but I will be!

Puppy is so freaking cute! Ah I want to squish it!! In a good cuddly way ;)

I don’t have a bike but plan to get one soon. My husband has one and my daughter has one so we plan to get me one and a trailer for the back for my 2 year old. I think it will be sooo awesome if all 4 of us can go riding! Family fun and exercise! Yay!

Jimmy John’s is so good! I love the Beach Club (turkey and avocado spread! Yum) on their regular sub bread. Carb lovers heaven!

Birthdays…my husband and I are exactly 2 weeks apart in age. We celebrate our birthday the same way every year in November right between our birthdays: dinner at a nice, non-kid friendly restaurant and a movie. I was always so stoked, Harry Potter movies usually come out in November so we would have Harry Potter Birthdays (I love HP, can’t help it!) but now that the last one comes out in November, I guess we will have a Twilight Birtday this year (corny, I know.) But that’s how we do it!

Okay, I think Dexter might make it into the top 5 all time pet names. I love it! And I kind of want to puppy nap him…

Birthdays are pretty low key for me. It’s fun when you’re a kid and you get a party and presents, but these days I just use it as a day to be extra nice to myself (which I should do every day but still…).

You are such a young soul!

What a cute little pup! He’s so precious :-) There can never be puppy picture overkill. I don’t have a bike. They scare me. I could see where those breadless Jimmy John’s could be not so filling. I say, go for the bread!

I prefer mellow bdays. A good run, a movie and a nice dinner. That’s a good bday for me!

I love Chelsea’s hands sticking out the sides in your Janetha Lately poster.

I have been unable to pull the trigger on a new protein but I do like the idea of buying vegan in this product. I’m glad to hear that you think this one is tasty….

I had an awesome Trek that I loved. I saved up my money and bought it when I was about 13 and it lasted me all the way up in to my mid twenties until someone stole it from my apartment :( Now I would really like to have a bike again but I don’t have to cash to get a good one!

Haha I am glad you noticed that. I thought it was hilarious.

About a year ago Ryan and I bought bikes…sooo glad we did! It was a long winter without them…I love biking places (friends houses, restaurants, errands) instead of driving…esp with current gas prices! I think you’ll have a blast with yours!! :)

  72. May 27, 2011 9:48 am

I have a confession……..I am 29 and can’t ride a bike! I had a date the other day and he suggested a bike ride I thought by now I should be able to get on do it……….NO! Very embarrassing…….

I usually just have an evening with the girls for my birthday x x

OMG! Dexter is such a little weenut! Soooooo tiny and cute! I wanna put him in my pocket! My family’s first dog’s name was Dexter (R.I.P. to the best cocker spaniel ever). I have SUCH dog envy. I’ve wanted a dog of my own for quite some time now. But alas, my building does not allow dogs. :(

I recently discovered the hot and sweet mustard and it is DA BOMB. I put it on and in everything. So dang good!

Congrats on the new bike! I actually just bought a new Rocky Mountain Whistler 50 myself! I’m so excited, we’re going on a ~15 mile bike ride tomorrow, I’m stoked to test it out!

And JJ’s!! I so miss them since I’ve moved out East, but they’re opening one here finally! I can’t tell you how many Lulu’s I will consume once they open =D

    HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!

    I have a mountain bike!

We usually celebrate by going to dinner somewhere special (of my choice!) and having a family party. Nothing too crazy!

    XO.

  78. May 27, 2011 11:25 am

I have a pink and white Davinci (so girly), it is a hybrid (cross between a mountain bike and a road bike) for commuting.

I love it! I should have been born with a bike attached to my body!

  79. May 27, 2011 12:52 pm

Oh I know you took more puppy pictures than that! Dexter is adorable! I love puppies. Sweet new bike. Mine’s a bit too small so I have to work way harder when I ride it. Not cool.
