normal shmormal.

May 24, 2011

as i pondered what i would blog about tonight, i realized that i haven’t been doing any “normal” blogging in awhile.  i went to palm springs, came home and was hit with a severe case of the flu and then had a busy, fun filled weekend.  i blogged about all of those things.. and now it is tuesday.. and i figured that i would “go back to normal blogging”—except there is one problem: i am not quite sure what “normal” is anymore! when life gets crazy, so does the structure on my blog.

i stared at a blank page for awhile before typing anything.. just pondering what the hell to blog about. i haven’t blogged a whole day of food in so long that i forgot to even take photos of my meals today.. so i can’t blog about those. (nothing new or exciting, i promise you that.) i don’t have any special advice or tips to share with you.  i have a few product reviews and giveaways in the pipeline, but i wasn’t really feeling any of those for tonight.  dinner wasn’t a new recipe—actually, we are reverting to old favorites this week because i haven’t cooked dinner in over a week, so marshall & i are both craving our favorites.  tonight was sweet potato black bean enchiladas, in case you wondered.  i could talk about my insanity workouts.. but they are boring. and there have been a total of three of them in the past ten days.

aside from my blog life, my regular life really hasn’t been normal lately either. amidst the many festivals and social functions i’ve been bouncing to and from,  i have also been trying to catch up at the office after my vacation and my sick leave. i have been trying to catch up on housework and laundry and unpacking.. and just barely got a handle on all that.  i haven’t been drinking any water for some reason, i am only at 2 contigos for the day (which is 48 ounces, compared to my usual 128 daily ounces).  i have eaten LOTS of meals out lately, simply because eating out is fun and tasty. i make no apologies for this, but it really isn’t normal for me.  i have been eating ice cream or frozen yogurt every single flipping night (even after my sickness was gone) and that is by no means normal for me. but, for the record, it is delicious.. and if you combine coconut frozen yogurt with lemon frozen yogurt, you are bound to love every bite.. like i did last night.

so that’s where i am.. mildly exhausted from all this catch up and life living.  and kind of stumped about what to blog about!  i have totally forgotten what “normal” is supposed to be.  that’s okay though, nobody said i had to be normal. so instead of a normal blog post, i am going to do something mindless and fun.

here are five things you probably don’t already know about me and definitely don’t need to know about me. i know, aren’t you excited? you’re welcome.

thing 1: i love mini things.

take any object and make it miniature and i am sold. i am such a sucker for anything miniature.

image

i usually let out a little squeal any time i see something mini. i get this from my mom, who gets equally as excited over adorable miniatures.

image

my love for mini things has taken over my silverware drawer. when marshall told me he likes to eat his chobani with little spoons, i took that as an open invitation to buy a miniature spoon EVERY time i came across one.

IMG_8237

trust me, i have come across many a mini spoon.  i actually had to practice restraint the last time i saw mini spoons.. i refrained from buying any more because i think 18 is enough. for now, at least.

IMG_8240IMG_8238IMG_8239

on the flip side, i also love oversized things.

image

i get a kick out of huge whisks and wooden spoons, but i don’t get nearly as excited as when i come across anything mini.

thing 2: i hate the taste of stevia.

or splenda. or truvia. or aspartame. or any other no-calorie sweetener, natural or artificial.  back in the day when i had a dr. pepper addiction, if i was accidentally given a diet coke and took a sip, i would gag. diet coke is the most foul tasting beverage on the planet! i cannot stand that fake sugar taste.  and, in my taste buds’ opinion, stevia tastes just like diet coke. that lingering icky not-real-sugar flavor is heinous.  i would rather accidentally put my fingers in my mouth after removing my nail polish. don’t pretend you haven’t done that—we all know what nail polish remover tastes like. and stevia tastes worse.

image

i received a whole boat load of nunaturals stevia and i decided to give it a try for the second time around, because hey, taste buds change, and maybe mine did.

IMG_8767

the verdict? no, my taste buds have not changed. nasty. i will be sending all this crappy stevia to deb, because she’s a stevia whore.

thing 3: i was abnormally obsessed with cats as a child.

25

and here you all thought i was a dog person. truth be told, i loved cats. see that gold glimmer in the photo above? yep, cat brooch. cats were my #1 obsession.

not just real cats. fake cats, too. stuffed cats, ceramic cats, cat posters, cat clothes.. i was legit OBSESSED with cats! and i hated dolls. i remember bursting into tears at my 4th birthday party because my friend got me a doll for my birthday. all i wanted was cats! luckily, another friend gave me a stuffed black cat at that same birthday party. i named him midnight. i remember it like it was yesterday.

i had a whole pet net overflowing with stuffed cats. my mom passed down her collection of ceramic cat figurines which i added to often. those special ceramic cats are currently packed away, but i think i may have to bust them out sometime soon. when i do, you will be the first to know. well, maybe the second, as i will probably have to notify marshall first.

my older sisters are real allergic to cats, so i was never able to have a cat of my own. i used to find stray kittens in the neighborhood and sneak them into my house and hide them under my bed, only to get busted when my sisters got home from school and started sneezing.  when i was six, my parents tracked down a special breed of cat that works well in homes of people with cat allergies. a british blue shorthair. on christmas of 1989, i got a REAL cat of my own. his name was blue. blue thunder. because he purred so loud.

scan029

i had blue for 14 long years. we eventually had to put him down because he got stomach cancer.. but he was my best friend for many, many years.

scan0022

now that we have a couple pups, i probably appear to be a crazy dog lady.. and i am. no objections there. i go crazy when i see a dog. but there will always be a special soft spot in my heart for cats.. and i can’t wait to get a kitty again one day. just not today.

thing 4: if i didn’t have to work out to stay healthy and in shape, i wouldn’t.

IMG_7943

this isn’t a new realization. i am lazy and i know it. i love not working out. sitting on the couch with my dogs is much more appealing to me than going to the gym.

IMG_0150

yes, i get a little antsy at times.. but i really don’t mind not working out. when my rest day comes around i am so excited. don’t get me wrong, i LOVE the feeling i get after (and even during at times) a good workout. but i will be honest.. i am not someone who just LOVES to work out.  i really enjoy being active.. hiking, biking, snowboarding—YES those things get me excited. but do i look forward to hitting the pavement for a run or turning my scheduled insanity DVD on and getting my ass kicked for 45 minutes? no. i do not.

some people get a “runner’s high”. i guess i can understand the feeling those who love running get when they are running. i feel that way when i eat ice cream. or cereal. i call it my “carb lover’s high”.

image

i shared this tid bit with deb and eden while i was vacationing in palm springs. they were a little surprised to hear that out of me and said that i come across as some hell bent exercise lover. alas, that is not the case.

i took a whole week off working out because i was sick, and i loved every last minute of it. i got antsy just once, but i think that had to do with the fact that i hadn’t left the couch or my bed even to run an errand let alone run a mile. of course, i know better and realize i do need to work out in order to stay fit and healthy.. especially after getting back to my workouts on sunday and feeling the amount of cardiovascular endurance i lost in just that one short week off.  but yep—that is my thing #4—i am a lazy slug at heart.

thing 5: i don’t really like bacon.

i am okay with bacon in things, to take the edge off, but straight up bacon? yuck. way too salty. i don’t like salty stuff in general (TWSS?), so eating a slab of salty bacon doesn’t appeal to me.  it seems like bacon is all the rage. trendy, perhaps? i hear about bacon everywhere and people put it on everything.. or in everything, even cupcakes.

image

no, thanks, no bacon for me.  whenever i tell someone i don’t like bacon, i get this audible gasp and a look like i’ve committed the worst sin known to man.  what can i say? not a fan.  this is more my style:

image

mmm.. speaking of ice cream, i think it’s time for my non-normal nightly bowl.

gosh, maybe i will be back to normal tomorrow. but i am making no promises.

Qs~

1. what were you obsessed with as a child? are you still?

2. tell me something i don’t know about you and definitely don’t need to know by any means.

I can definitely relate to your little dilemma. Sometimes I get a total writer’s block and have NO idea what to blog about. Hey, at least it’s better than not having anything to write on a school research paper, eh?
Seems like you banged out a pretty awesome post nonetheless! I love random facts! :]

I’m totally addicted to owls and houndstooth because of this blog! 2 contigos a day is my goal!

    • May 25, 2011 12:22 pm

Aren’t you glad I don’t smoke crack and blog about it? Because then you might be addicted to that because of this blog…

  3. May 24, 2011 7:15 pm

I was obsessed with play food as a child. I LOVED playing “pretend McDonald’s” and chopping my VelCro veggies. My parents should have known then that I was going to be a foodie.
One thing you might not know about me…I really hate belly buttons. Like REALLY. I won’t let anyone (including myself) touch mine, and I pretty much gag whenever I see someone with a belly button ring. There’s a story behind my distaste for the navel, but we’ll save that for another time…

PS I hate the taste of Diet Coke too.

  4. May 24, 2011 7:18 pm

Reading this post is like I was reading my own life. We are so similar!

Oh and I’m obsessed with little spoons too. Can’t help it!

We just adopted a 3 year old cat on Sunday (Wilbur, he came with that name, if it was my choice, I would change it LOL) but Basset Hounds are still my obsession. I’m pretty sure we will be getting two Basset Hound puppies within the next year or so. BUT I keep thinking how bigger dogs (like a lab) would be so much easier to go on long walks. Oh the dilemma.

Boy my comment is so random tonight ha

    • May 25, 2011 12:09 pm

Oh my gosh, if you get a Basset hound PLEASE send photos!

    1. i was OBSESSED with dirty dancing as a kid. my mom let me rent one movie every friday night and i would always rent dirty dancing. i saw it again recently and i couldn’t believe my mom used to let me watch that!!! it’s … dirty!!! :)

    2. one thing you don’t know about me (and probably didn’t want to know) is that i am always soooo gassy! i eat way more vegetables than any normal human and so i am basically contributing my own methane-induced ozone layer hole above my house.

  6. May 24, 2011 7:33 pm

I was thinking as I read this that these were all things that we talked about over the weekend. Blue was gorgeous. The photos with her…priceless.

Your nieces welcome you back any time if you want your kitty fix.

Something you don’t know about me: I used to be a mean scrapbooker- ok that was embarrassing.

I had to comment to tell you that I don’t like bacon either. I definitley know what you mean about the surprise when I tell people. My boyfriend loves bacon and I just don’t get the obession. I think it’s a textural thing that turns me off to it.
Anyway, I don’t remember any full blown obessions as a kid, but I remember that I loved it when I got to “help” my mom or grandma bake, and I still love cooking and baking today.
One random thing about me is that I love elephants and giraffes – seeing them in real life (like the zoo) or on television or movies – I just think they are so cute!

That is my favorite stevia! I’m sorry, really sorry, you don’t like stevia, its a life saver, literally since sugar and cancer go hand in hand. Not to say I don’t eat sugar, I had some today.
I used to HATE stevia, but I got over it real quick during my years without sugar.

    • May 26, 2011 2:02 pm

Don’t be sorry! I don’t like to sweeten things.. so I figure no harm no foul that I dont like it.

Blue was beautiful!!! Those eyes are unreal!! And you were just as beautiful back then as you are now!!
    1) I was obsessed with Garfield comic strips – I still have a large shoebox of the ones I cut out of the paper every.single.day. (I too love cats!). At about 10 for some reason, I became obsessed with Marilyn Monroe and collected every thing known to man pertaining to her!
    2) One thing you dont know about me (not that you know anything, ha!) is that I pick my eyebrows – just pull em out. I have done it since age 11 or so. It has some big long fancy name, but I just call it picking my eyebrows!

    • May 26, 2011 2:00 pm

      Thank you :)

I am surprised that it has a long fancy name. Picking eyebrows sounds good enough to me!

  11. May 24, 2011 8:02 pm

I just have to brag that I’m way better at being lazy than you. In fact, I would dare to say you’re a lazy poser while I am truly lazy, despite the fact that I did circuit training yesterday for the first time in a year!

Wow, Blue was gorgeous! What a great kitty!

I was also a big scrapbooker – professional even. I’ll have to send all my old stickers to Deb!

I love your spoons. I don’t think the butterfly one has made the blog yet. Has it?

    • May 26, 2011 2:00 pm

Yes! It has. Not as often as the owl, though. You and Deb should have a scrapbooking meetup.

  12. May 24, 2011 8:12 pm

I am obsessed with ice cream and fro yo as well! Go us :)

I like diet Coke….ONCE in a while (like 4x/year), but anything more and it hurts. Maybe it IS the nasty aftertaste??

I am exactly like you with respect to exercise! I run 5 days a week but I actually view it as a chore and would much rather watch TV. If TV watching were a sport, I would be an olympic athlete! I am also with you on the bacon….I don’t like salty stuff either and would prefer the sweet stuff any day! ;-)

I was obsessed with animals as a child….always bringing home strays and begging my mother to let me have more and more animals. I am still obsessed to this day but I only have 2 dogs now. I still chase down strays though and try and find their owners.

Something you don’t know about me is that I am a qualified sex therapist and used to be a sex columnist for an overseas magazine. I now work in a completely unrelated field though!

    • May 26, 2011 1:59 pm

Dude, you and me both. We would be competing for the gold medal.. race to the couch sitting finish!

I love the sex therapist tid bit! Would love to hear more about the whys and whats of that someday. You should really have a blog :)

I love the mini spoon collection and mini collection and as i mentioned before, i have that target placemat. I have one in blue and one in pink. The last 2 in the san diego store!

I used to hate stevia and anything artificial and had the same rxn to diet sodas as you. Now, i dont drink soda at all, ever. Regular (and never diet…ick!) just b/c i dont want it, dont miss it, so dont bother. But I came full circle on stevia however it DOES have an aftertaste which is what ill call an acquired taste that now i dont notice and/or enjoy but yes, it does have a distinct flavor. And it’s not just “after”taste but the “whole”taste, too.

The beach pic of you. love it. Come down and visit me at the beach!

Working out and cats. Good to know. I have a cat post coming up. I’ll be linking back :)

  16. May 24, 2011 8:55 pm

Now I want a mini spoon. I’ve never owned one! I feel left out.

I HATE artificial sweetners too. HATE. Yet, I like diet coke. I am a hypocrite…if fake sugar is in anything else, I cringe.

I am allergic to cats. I’ve never really been a cat fan but I want a kitten. Not a cat though, A KITTEN! I laughed at your cat lady-ness. too cute!

    I am a bacon whore.

Hmm don’t know about me? I am kind of boring. I was a band nerd in high school. It was bad.

  17. May 24, 2011 8:56 pm

I like the inconsistent blogging but thats just me. right there with you on not working out and such. I am totally fine chillin at home with the pups. And I don’t have bacon in the house (although I love it) yet I keep smelling it-wth??

I used to be obsessed with keychains. Like I had a huge link that went on and on all of keychains chained together. I wanted to make into the Guiness Book of World Records

Hmmm something about me….I was featured in the USA Today two yrs ago in an article about saving money. I was frugal before it became cool!

    • May 25, 2011 12:21 pm

You have bacon on the brain! And I so wish you had kept up your World Record goal. How rad would that be?!

  18. May 24, 2011 8:57 pm

    1. Laura Ingalls Wilder. And yes, I’m still obsessed! Um, also Caddie Woodlawn.

    2. I am obsessed with having pet pigs some day. I’m going to name them Sir Francis Bacon and General Sow.

    • May 25, 2011 12:20 pm

Why did I know that about you with Laura Ingalls Wilder? I think you told me that once…

      Great pig names!

  19. May 24, 2011 9:09 pm

I’m having convulsions from the cat pictures. I hope you are happy.

  20. May 24, 2011 9:26 pm

I LOVE the mini collection! I was actually obsessed with bunnies in the beginning of elementary school. I used to check out tonsss of books from the library about how to care for a pet bunny and sit at the picnic table during recess and take notes on them.
I still find them cute, but I am not interested in the least bit in having them for a pet. I’m a full blown dog person.

  21. May 24, 2011 9:27 pm

I was so obsessed with cats as a kid that I picked a random day (March 14th, I think?) to be CAT DAY, and I threw a cat party. Every year. I made invitations with my cat stamps and cat stickers and invited over my friends, and we would watch cat movies.

    Yup.

  25. May 24, 2011 10:49 pm

I always dislike bacon when I ate meat.. looks and smells gross!
I was obsessed with cats and winne the pooh. I still have a cat thing.

  26. May 24, 2011 10:51 pm

    You know what I love?????
I love that I knew most of these already from hanging out with you! So funny how you, Deb, and I are different about our sugar tastes! Like the three bears, right?

Bacon is a little overrated indeed. I like it, but not when its pure grease. I think I like the flavor more than anything. I think the same thing about truffles.

Anyhow….I don’t know if you knew this, but I speak hebrew fluently. I can even read and write. Poorly, because I can barely do it in English, but I can! And as a kid, I was obsessed with braids! I had this braid book and for like year wore my hair in an interesting braid everyday. Yea, grew out of that! the only thing I braid is challah!

    • May 25, 2011 12:18 pm

I do love working out although I sometimes need to restraint myself from it. many times I feel I want to workout for two hours but I tell myself no to it! weird right? but so true! you might wonder why is bad working out more? well, I believe everything too much is bad, even good things.
I hate bacon! I dunno, it gross me out.
I do love nunaturals, actually I love it! once I discovered it, I can’t live without it. but again, no overdo on that either. balance is my motto! ;)

  29. May 25, 2011 2:52 am

I LOVE THIS: “i feel that way when i eat ice cream. or cereal. i call it my “carb lover’s high”.” Hahaha reading that seriously made me laugh out loud! Honestly, I am relieved to know that you are not an exercise robot but in fact a good old ice cream and cereal lover like the rest of us mortals. Whew :)

i think the world of you, but must disagree today: i love stevia (i better check out deb’s blog?!) and diet coke is just about the best man-made invention on the planet. cats scare me and if i could stairmaster and run all day, i would. luckily, we will always have our cereal bond. :)

    • May 25, 2011 12:15 pm

Yep, I have tried it all. It’s not the alcohol flavor I despise.. it’s that lingering fake taste.. I can’t describe it… a lot of people say they can’t taste it, but I can!

  34. May 25, 2011 4:35 am

this is so funny! i actually love bacon, but didn’t for the longest time. who knows what changed? i have to say that i absolutely love mini things too…when i was a kid i would only eat ice cream and applesauce with my old baby spoon, which may or may not be in our cabinet and still in use today!

  35. May 25, 2011 4:36 am

LOVE the piece about the cat obsession – i was the same with dogs! in fifth grade i wanted a dog SO badly that i became OBSESSED with dogs in general. my mom let me take a day off from school to go to westminster’s dog show. i owned books. i memorized every breed recognized by the american kennel club, along with little anecdotes about each breed. i had memorabilia – books about dogs, t-shirts, posters – you name it. legit NUTSO little kid. i cried and screamed and begged for a dog and never got one.

and now? i kind of don’t want one. weird, no? :)

  36. May 25, 2011 5:03 am

I love this post! I like when you get to learn more about the blogger you read everyday! :) I want mini spoons! They are so cute! I need to start collecting them! :)

Let’s see..I have every movie ticket stub from almost every movie I have ever seen in the movie theater. I am totally with you on bacon. I hate it! I hate the smell and everything related to it. I will occasionally have turkey bacon but that tastes nothing like real bacon.

  37. May 25, 2011 5:18 am

  39. May 25, 2011 5:23 am

I HATE artificial sweeteners also! Never could stand them, give me sugar any day. We use sucunate around here instead. My youngest also has a metabolic disorder and aspertame is very bad for her. I don’t even like it in gum!

  40. May 25, 2011 5:41 am

As a child I had a love for running shoes/athletic shoes…when my birthday came around it was always shoes, shoes, and more shoes…to this day I am still pretty much in love with all types of athletic shoes if only my bank account could afford my wants.
I get looked at pretty crazy when I say I am not a big red meat eater. When it comes to hot dogs, hamburgers or steaks they just don’t do it for me. I crave a big hunk of salmon!!

  42. May 25, 2011 6:09 am

I loved pigs as a kid, had more stuffed pigs than I could count, had ceramic pigs, pigs on calendars and even pig tshirts. Pigs everywhere. I still think they are cute but I don’t have anymore stuffed animals ;)

  43. May 25, 2011 6:29 am

I was obsessed with manatees. They’re my favorite animal!

Also, something you don’t know about me…I used to have my ears gauged, too. And for about 2 years, I only shopped at Hot Topic. Yeah, totally different than me now.

    • May 25, 2011 12:14 pm

Manatees! That’s so random. Also, I would loooove to see photos from your Hot Topic days.

  44. May 25, 2011 6:35 am

I LOVE stevia, and it’s been such a goddess-send as I get out all artificial sweeteners and even most natural sugars.

And the picture of your cat makes me laugh because it could be a twin with my ginormous grey kitty.

    • May 25, 2011 12:12 pm

Remember when I emailed (or comment questioned) you about your cat? THAT’S WHY!

  45. May 25, 2011 6:42 am

I am definitely a carb lover as well, and depending on the day I either love working out during the workout or I’m just doing it for health too.

One thing about me? Even though I don’t always love working out, I fantasize about the different ways to intensify my workouts to kill me that much more….maybe that is just because I work at a gym :-)

  46. May 25, 2011 6:42 am

I was obsessed with dogs – and still am!

  47. May 25, 2011 6:43 am

I was obsessed with ice cream as a child and still am. I eat it when I am happy, sad, bored, etc. I eat ice cream 6/7 days a week and it is definitely a motivating factor in my training!

    have a great day!
    Chloe

  48. May 25, 2011 7:26 am

I feel the same way about bacon dude… no way, but throw a few peices in my salad for taste and i’m ‘aight….

As a child, I probably ate 5 thousand oreos with milk….

  49. May 25, 2011 8:21 am

that is such a cute picture of your mom!!!

as a kid, i was OBSESSED with beanie babies. i wanted ALL of them… even the mini ones that came in mcdonald’s happy meals.

  50. May 25, 2011 8:34 am

Hah what is that with the bacon? Happens to me too (since I am not a bacon fan either) and I never understood the reaction.

  51. May 25, 2011 8:42 am

Well it’s no secret that I love my little kitties – I’m definitely a cat person all the way.

I’m the same way with bacon!!! I’ll eat it if it comes crumbled on pizza or in pasta but yeah, just a big ol bite of it? ICK. Oh well, more for the bacon lovers I guess…

When I was little I had this weird obsession with jelly shoes. I wore mine in summer and winter and once they got beyond destroyed my mom took me to the mall, bought me new shoes and then we had a little “ceremony” to throw my old jellies away in a mall trashcan. I still remember which trash can it was…..sad.

    • May 25, 2011 12:11 pm

Oh my gosh I had these pink sparkley jelly shoes and LOVED them. Also, I was so into saltwater sandals. That’s great that you had a mall ceremony!

  52. May 25, 2011 9:02 am

I wouldn’t workout either. It would be time wasted that I could be sleeping or watching tv.

I’m obsessed with cheese. I love it all!

  53. May 25, 2011 9:14 am

Oh my goodness, I’m totally a lazy slug at heart too! Both my husband and I are…bad combo? Sometimes. Seriously, you spoke my very thoughts about working out! So glad I’m not the only one, hahaha!! And, like Deb, I think I might be a Stevia whore…at least I’m sure my husband would classify me that way (and he is with you on the stuff, hates it!).

Oh my gosh…here is something that only my closest friends know that I used to do back in high school and college and I’m generally not stoked about sharing with just anyone…but here goes nothing – I used to lick the inside of the cheesy popcorn bags. Do you guys remember the microwave popcorn that would come with a little packet of powdered chedder? Yeah, well, I LOVED it and I apparently didn’t want to waste any of the yummy chedder flavoring so I would cut open the bag when all the popcorn had been consumed and lick the inside. I haven’t done that for YEARS but my friends still love to bring it up every now and again. So gross when you think about the information that is coming out now about all the chemicals that line those bags. But, that’s me – or was me. The me that hated vegetables, ps.

    • May 25, 2011 12:10 pm

I am so glad you can relate to my sluggishness :) Your admission about the popcorn bags had me cracking up! Hey, why waste that, right?

  54. May 25, 2011 9:27 am

Yes! I love mini things and am mildly obsessed!
When I was little(r) though, I was obsessed with Mariah Carey, Rocky movies and Get In Shape Girl.
I don’t eat meat, but I love the smell of bacon. Weird, I know.
I also love being “lazy,” or as I call it, “relaxing.” While I still exercise, I have to admit that I have a fondness for my couch much more than a stationery bike.

Hmmm…something to overshare? I overshare every freaking day. ;)

  55. May 25, 2011 9:38 am

I love posts like this because it lets us know more about you! And for not having anything to blog about you did a pretty awesome job :-)

As a teenager, I was obsessed with the Backstreet Boys. Yep, I was a total teeny bopper. I went to several of their concerts, collected all sorts of BSB stuff like pens, notebooks, etc., I had pictures all over my walls. I’m not exaggerating when I say obsessed. Luckily I grew out of it :-)

And I love your motto, Keep Calm and Eat Ice Cream. I completely second that!

  56. May 25, 2011 10:12 am

Your mini spoon collection is adorbs. Now I want to go buy some mini spoons! I love your cat pics. We are getting a kitten in a few weeks and I can’t wait!

As a child I was obsessed with the cartoon, Taz. I had a Taz themed bedroom and a Taz birthday party. Thank goodness I grew out of that one!

  57. May 25, 2011 10:34 am

I was obsessed with My Little Ponies and horses in general when I was a kid. (We always had cats, which I love, but I guess I didn’t need to obsess over them.) I had horse posters on the walls, books about horses, Breyer Horses, horses everywhere!

  58. May 25, 2011 10:44 am

I LOVE the pictures of you as a wee one with blue! Too flippin cute :-)
When I was a kid I was obsessed with playing dress up. In anything. As anything. Aaaaannnndd… yup, still am. Thankfully my boyfriend is an actor and one of my besties is a photographer so this serves as some sort of strange justification – “OH! We could use that velvet cape in a photo shoot!” Did I just actually cop to that?
I knew you didn’t like bacon, but I was surprised you didn’t like Stevia! I don’t like artificial sweeteners, but recently became re-obsessed with stevia. It’s ridiculous. Great post!

    • May 25, 2011 12:02 pm

Haha I am loving all the secrets coming out! I’d love to see some of those photos with the cape ha!

  59. May 25, 2011 11:13 am

I love your posts! And you!

Mini things are awesome. Cats are awesome!

  60. May 25, 2011 11:13 am

I don’t think I was obsessed with them per se… but I did collect stuffed bunnies. I had to stop, because adults collecting stuffed bunnies is just creepy. I’m thinking I should take up collecting stuffed monkey’s now instead….

    • May 25, 2011 12:03 pm

haha because that’s totally less creepy than bunnies.

      • May 25, 2011 12:06 pm

Lol. My thoughts exactly… I currently own ONE stuffed monkey – from Wicked. It’s what inspired my new inspired monkey-collecting needs.

This is fun. :) As a kid I was really obsessed with stuffed bears. I loved them and their soft, oatmealy coats, and I accumulated a bunch over the years. Finally in my latter college years, I started to get rid of some. Now, only 2 remain: a big guy in a red sweater that my mom gave to me one Xmas (but he stays stored in a trunk) and the lavender bear with the rainbow on his belly that I won from one of those grab-a-prize vending machines when I was like 8. And to this day (embarrassing info coming in 3…2…1) I still sleep with him every night. :)

I think that last sentence also satisfies the “something you don’t know about me and probably don’t need to know by any means” part. :)

Oh, and if I could get away with only lifting weights and never doing cardio again, I gladly would! Love the iron, hate the cardio.

    • May 25, 2011 11:55 am

I still sleep with my baby blanket :)

    • May 25, 2011 12:23 pm

I confess…I still have and occasionally sleep with the bear my sister gave me when I was 7. He sits on our bed during the day (when we get around to making it). My bear has a name too…Sammy…because my sister’s name is Samantha. As creative as kids can be, naming things isn’t always where we shine…

  62. May 25, 2011 11:53 am

omgnesss Blue is adoraaable! haha well~something random is that, I used to “abhor” cats (and i never use that word) b/c in argentina there were so many nasty and scary stray cats. everywhere I went it smelled like pee haha. But now I’ve discovered how amazing they are! My fiance has 2 cats, and they’re just adorable and sweet. I just have bad eye allergies to them.

  63. May 25, 2011 11:55 am

I used to be obsessed with Puppy and Kitty Surprise — you know, the stuffed dogs/cats that were pregnant…I used to get so disappointed when I only got 1 or 2 instead of the 5 pups they’d show on the commercial! I was (and still am) a weirdo.

  64. May 25, 2011 12:01 pm

Have you ever tried Sweetleaf liquid stevia? I don’t like stevia either, but I actually do like the Sweetleaf stuff that I’ve tried. I don’t know how they make it palatable, but they do.

    1. Inspector Gadget, Rainbow Bright, gymnastics. I have fond memories of each now.

    2. I’m drawing a blank on interesting facts about me (what does that say about me?). But did you know today (25th) is Geek Pride Day? Some legit knowledge there.

    • May 25, 2011 12:05 pm

I will keep an eye out for it and give it a shot. I will try anything once! Luckily I don’t like sweetening things, so it’s no big deal… but it would be nice to find one that is tasty for low calorie baking projects.

      Yay geeks!

  65. May 25, 2011 12:22 pm

Wow, I guess I didn’t know cats could live so long! I was obsessed with reading growing up – it was not unusual for me and my Mom to go to the library and I’d come with 10 books on a Friday and have them all read by Sunday.

Sadly, I don’t think I’ve read a book for 5+ years – I’ve now become obsessed with reading blogs! :D

    • May 25, 2011 1:22 pm

I was the same way with books! I would put a ton of blankets in my bathtub and read my little heart out, books and books every day! And now I am the same way, blogs only. Maybe that’s why we like blog reading so much :)

    F. How did i forget to read your blog this morning? I KNEW something was missing from my life. I feel better now. I used to be obsessed with Johnathan Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement. I had posters of him on every wall of my room. To this day, he has been my only celebrity crush! xoxo

    • May 25, 2011 1:06 pm

DUDE. I was in the JTT fan club! I had random things mailed to me. And I met him at the Autorama. I loved him. ha! I love YOU.

  68. May 25, 2011 1:13 pm

    Down with stevia!! ahahaha

NuNaturals sent me some stuff, too and BLECH I do not like it one bit! I have actually been trying to use it but I always end up adding in real sugar anyway since the stevia tastes so weird!

    • May 25, 2011 1:24 pm

It’s from Target.. that photo was from my Mexico trip back in February, so no it’s not new.. I think I got the coverup last summer?

  70. May 25, 2011 1:22 pm

I also am obsessed with all things miniature and also hate the taste of stevia. And while I don’t really like real bacon, I love turkey bacon. Something totally random about me, however, is that sometimes when I go out to the bar with my girlfriends I pretend like I have an accent. I’m boring and married and don’t go out that much anymore and I just find it amusing :)

    • May 25, 2011 1:24 pm

I wish I could do a fake accent because that sounds like a good time!

  71. May 25, 2011 2:17 pm

Ummm…do your shorts actually say “SURE FUN”??? They may be the best shorts ever.

When I was 5ish, I was completely obsessed with the Beach Boys. I wore out my cassette. And I wanted to marry Brian Wilson. I thought he was 15 in the late 80’s. You’ll remember that I was 5 at the time. Someone should’ve told me how weird that was.

  73. May 25, 2011 3:48 pm

    Amen to that.
I love all those cat pictures. Hahha. I’m such a cat person. I have six cats.

When I was little I was obsessed with Nysnc and Britney Spears that I got all their dance videos because I thought I could actually dance.

  74. May 25, 2011 3:57 pm

    I knew #1! But that’s because I stalk you.

I was obsessed with Harry Potter. I still am a lil’ bit. You didn’t need to know that.

  76. May 25, 2011 5:15 pm

When I was a kid, I was obessed with having my blanket (woobie) with me at all times. In first grade I even snuck it to school in my backpack. And yes, I still have woobs today although the need to take it everywhere has ceased. (this is both the kid obession and something you wouldn’t/don’t need to know:)

  77. May 25, 2011 5:33 pm

Have you tried luscious pork belly? Totally different from bacon. So much better, even though I confess I love bacon too.

You know what? “Normal” blogging be damned. It can be restricting. I love it when bloggers toss a different post from time to time. Love this post. :-)

    • May 26, 2011 1:16 pm

I haven’t tried it. But I like pork! Just not saltarific bacon.

Random fact I’m not sure if you knew about but stevia tastes different to everyone. Some people can’t even taste it. It has to do with the acidity in your mouth or something random like that. This is probably why you hate it while other people love it.

  79. May 25, 2011 6:07 pm

oh i loved this post and find that your posts are ALWAYS eye catching and always entertaining so you just keep doing your thang :)

stevia…i like it and that may be one of the only brands tha ti DO like. Nunaturals and truvia…I have tried others and BLEH I had to pour out a whole mug of coffee when i used some brand ‘generic’ stevia…I also hate diet soda..tastes like dirt and thats the truth…ONCE in a while I get a craving for fresca, but any dark soda like diet coke or pepper..bleh!

I am obsessed with pumps and sneakers…bright colored sneakers. If I had a bit more money it would be trouble because I would order every bright colored sneaker there was!

  80. May 25, 2011 6:33 pm

I love the mini spoons. Where does one find such small spoons?

Sorry you are in a funk, hopefully you will be back on track soon, all it good time.

    • May 26, 2011 1:18 pm

Kitchen stores ALWAYS have mini spoons! Crate + Barrel has the colorful ones. I’m not in a funk, I am perfectly content with my weird mood haha.. But thanks for the concern :)

  81. May 25, 2011 6:35 pm

Ahh I never liked bacon either! It seriously bugs me how trendy it is! OK, fine if you like bacon, but how..HOW does bacon become a trend?! lol

    • May 26, 2011 1:18 pm

Seriously. We should try to make something else trendy. Like swordfish.

  82. May 25, 2011 6:37 pm

Let’s see…obsessions as a child: barbies, beanie babies, and school supplies (yes, I was the total dork in school that could.not.wait for school to start back JUST so I could get a brand spankin’ new box of crayons and Lisa Frank folders)! haha!

I was alway a dog person until I had my first cat. She was a stray that found ME one day and was the best pet I’ve ever had for the 6 years we were together. She just had to be put down last summer after a battle with hypothyroidism which led to heart problems. It’s just me and my cat Tiger now (cute little punkin head) and I have to say that I may never own another dog just because I can be so lazy with a cat instead. They are so self sufficient…just plop down some litter and refill the food bowl once a day…the lazy pet owner’s dream come true!

I hate salty stuff and while I rarely ever make it myself, I could never turn down a slice of crispy crunchy bacon! Yum!

Coconut fro-yo mixed with taro fro-yo will make you think you’ve died and gone to lactose heaven! I swear it!

    • May 26, 2011 1:19 pm

Gosh, don’t get me started on school supplies! LOVED THEM. Still do, I love going to the office store for work! Taro fro yo? Sign me up.. one ticket to lactose heaven, please!

  83. May 25, 2011 6:51 pm

I was disgustingly obsessed with babies as a child. Even baby stuff. I would love going to walmart, target, kohls, or any department store to look at baby products! I knew everything there was to know about baby strollers, cribs, carseats (these were my favorite), bouncers, etc. Everything! My obsession turned into a love for babysitting. No wonder I was the #1 babysitter in the neighborhood…which lead to the best in the city haha. Ridiculous. People would fight over me during the big events that went on. I had all the wealthy people calling and I made ridiculous amounts of money….which provided me with the best clothes! My parents didn’t have to pay for any of my clothes because I made PLENTY from all the babysitting. Anyway, that’s way more than you needed to know and I am quite embarrassed that I was that obsessed. Until I moved up north, I still was babysitting for a family in Omaha on a consistent basis. And wow do I miss those cute boys!

  84. May 26, 2011 8:07 am

  86. May 27, 2011 3:47 pm

I don’t like working out either!!! I’m an inherently lazy person and am laying in bed as I type this. But being active makes me happy (if that makes sense) so that’s why I continue to do it. Love me some endorphins, followed by a nap :)

Something you don’t know about me? Even though I took liberal arts in university, I was actually a huge math and science nerd in high school. I got over 95% in advanced calculus and chemistry… and somehow ended up a writer!
