home alone!

January 28, 2010

hey guys.  how was your thursday?  i am SO so SO So glad tomorrow is friday.  and not to rub it in or anything.. but i only have five more days left of work until jamaica :)

i am home all by my lonesome tonight.  both of my roommates are in colorado for a snowboarding trade show and marshall has ALL the dogs at his house~ even my roomie’s dog! marshall has the day off tomorrow so he took all the pups so he could play with them tomorrow.  SO.. i am home alone in this new house for the first time ever. how boring!  usually i don’t mind being alone but it is nice to have a pup or two around ;)

before i tell you about today i have to show you the most fabulous protein berry ice cream i made last night!

i might have to make some more tonight.  this was LOTS of ice, 1 scoop vanilla pro pow, 1/2 cup frozen berries (the triple berry blend from costco), 1/2 cup almond milk, splash of water, xantham & guar gums.

yes, it was super amazing.

i woke up a tad early this morning so i took advantage of the situation and made myself some french pressed coffee before hitting the road~

i mentioned in my last post that today was national blueberry pancake day.. so of course, i did what any normal foodie would do, made blueberry pancakes for everyone at work!

i used some kodiak cakes whole wheat, oat & honey pancake batter and fresh blueberries~

i love this pancake batter. i know it is very popular across the country but i am happy to say that it is made by lehi roller mills which is local! gotta represent the local companies when you can :)

pre flip..

post flip..IMG_5814

all stacked up!

for MY pancake, i mixed 1/3 cup of prepared whole wheat, oat & honey batter with 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder and made ONE BIG PANCAKE with fresh blueberries baked right in..

IMG_5821 IMG_5822

meal 1: protein blueberry pancake @ 9:00 AM

topped with a bit of sugar free syrup..IMG_5824 IMG_5825

OH. i want another one just looking at this! i loved it! protein packed and perfectly fluffy AND fruity. what more could i want?

oh yeah. more coffee. i had lots of that today.

i was a little worried that my pancake wouldn’t keep me full for long but it surprisingly held me over for four hours!

meal 2: grilled flatout egg wrap + veggies @ 1 PM

i have been trying to make do with what i have in the work fridge because i don’t want to grocery shop before my trip.  this wrap had 1 slice turkey, 3 egg whites, 1 wedge of laughing cow and some sugar free ketchup.

i grilled it on the stove and it toasted up quite nicely!

i didn’t want to eat too close to my workout but i knew i had to have something before the gym, so i made myself have a snack before i was hungry.

meal 3: yogurt mess @ 3:45 PM

this had 1 cup 0% plain oikos, 1 TB PB2, 1 TB chocolate protein powder and a sliced banana.

IMG_5833 IMG_5835

the end! total workout 1 hour 5 minutes.

do you guys ever use the arm bike? it is awesome.  i was introduced to it when i was in physical therapy after breaking my humerus.  old lefty still gives me a lot of grief (i have a titanium rod in there) and so i like to do the arm bike from time to time.  it is a good workout! if your gym has one i suggest you give it a whirl.

i came home and recharged with the most voluminous green protein smoothie evvvvver!

meal 4: yum @ 7:30 PM

in the mix:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ice
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 3 cups spinach
  • xantham & guar gums

‘stachtastic and straight from the gym. yeah, i was holding my wine glass with a death grip. so what?

i came home to a FABULOUS surprise! one of the greatest people in the whole wide world sent me a package of goodies!

AHHHH! danica! you are such a babe!  danica knows that i can eat candy now that it is a new year (i didnt eat a lick of candy all year last year) and so she sent me some yummy treats :)  i think the BEST part of the package was the SEXY SOCKS!

ahahaha OH MY GOSH can you even believe she found these? it cracks me up after my post about the old dude saying my gym socks were sexy :D

of course i had a little sample of the dark chocolate crisps from trader joe’s~ i’ve been eyeing these every time i go to california!

super good! and one crisp was just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth!  at less than 20 calories a pop, you can’t beat that.

oh yeah i forgot to tell you guys.. i lost the ball to my blackberry the other day. it was just flat out missing:

ugh. grumble.

so~ i have been without a phone since monday!  but TODAY i got my new one.. the motorola droid:

i am going to fiddle with this and see if i can figure it out.  anyone have this phone? do you like it?

well.. that sums up my night! and now i am typing this.  pretty boring post, i know. sorry~ that’s all i’ve got!

sigh.. nobody sent me any smoothie ‘staches! come on people, i need all the entertainment i can get.

tune in tomorrow for flashback friday.. oh, and it is national corn chip day.. yeah~ i know SOMEONE will wanna celebrate!

1. what is your favorite kind of pancake and pancake topping? i love love love pumpkin pancakes with maple almond butter topping!

2. when your meal timing is off and you either have to eat when you aren’t hungry or go a long time without eating and get to the point of HANGRY, which do you choose? i almost always force feed myself because i know when hunger strikes it will not be a pretty sight ;)

Yay for Jamaica in 5 days!!!

    1. Oatmeal or banana pancakes. Toppings: Cottage cheese and apricot preserves or chopped pecans and maple syrup.
    2. Um I’m always hungry, so I’m always eating :)

  5. January 28, 2010 10:09 pm

So nice of you to make everyone pancakes! Blueberry pancakes are definitely my fave- eaten plain. They’re my grandpa’s specialty! And I’, big on the preemptive eating :)

  6. January 28, 2010 10:13 pm

Just sent you my Guestie. LMK if it’s ok.

The Droid phone, I seriously looked at that thing 2 weeks ago when MY TRACKBALL on my Blackberry crapped out. I ended up just getting another crackberry.

And the Im too sexy for my socks….Skylar (age 35 mos) sings the following: Im too sexy for my shirt, toooo sexy for my shirt. Her father taught her that one. Nice. She sung it for Madeline today at our blogger meetup.

My nails. No real secrets but I get at least one or two nice comments per week about them, so thank you!!!

Your hair is rocking. I can totally tell you got your color freshened up. It looks awesome!

The choco TJ;s crisps, never knew about those, now I do :)

  7. January 28, 2010 10:15 pm

Wow Jamaica is so soon!!! I am jealous!
    1. I am not much of a pancakes person, but I like protein pancakes the best
    2. It so depends. I hate getting to the point of HANGRY, so often I would just grab something small

  8. January 28, 2010 10:15 pm

I am so jealous of your work kitchen!

    1. what is your favorite kind of pancake and pancake topping? Plain, with maple syrup

    2. when your meal timing is off and you either have to eat when you aren’t hungry or go a long time without eating and get to the point of HANGRY, which do you choose? I *should* choose to eat before hungry, but today I chose the other, which was a disaster

I love blueberry pancakes with a drizzle of REAL maple syrup!! if only i had pancake mix here at school…

and i would definitely prefer to eat a little if i wasnt hungry.. you don’t want to be anywhere near me when i’m hangry!

  10. January 28, 2010 11:34 pm

I need to get my hands on some Kodiak mix. I thought you weren’t doing white flour? Is it whole wheat or something? A lot of people I know are getting the Droid and I’m jealous. My turn!

you must be so pumped for jamaica!!! i’m going to be stopping off there on my spring break cruise in a month! can’t waitttttt!!

there’s something so comforting about pancakes. i love the added protein in them, because usually they don’t fill me up for too long :( your eyes are absolutely gorgeous by the way!!

i adore white chocolate chunk blueberry waffles! (a fav restaurant of mine makes this combo). but when i make them i love a little syrup and a lot of almond butter.

  13. January 29, 2010 1:25 am

The pancakes look so pretty!! I absolutely love mine with maple syrup and almond butter. So good!
I almost never go hangry (because that isn’t a pretty sight either) and it’s not too difficult to force-feed myself because me loves eating.

    FRIDAY! yay!

  14. January 29, 2010 2:52 am

I had berry protein ice cream last night too!!! Yum! and those pancakes looks fab!

Fav pancake: banana, fav topping: peanut butter or yogurt!

amazing pancakes!!! I think these are my favorite toppings, just like what you made. :)
I used to follow a meal time schedule… but now I eat when I’m hungry which is not surprisingly the usual meal time if I’m on a normal day. it’s so much fun eating when you’re hungry ;)

  16. January 29, 2010 4:48 am

Oh I love that smoothie in the wine glass, my kind of style!! I am a sucker for any kind of nut butter on my pancakes. Maybe because its melts into one big “gooey”ness. Usually when I am not hungry but know I won’t be able to eat for a while, I drink something. Juice, almond milk, kombucha etc. and maybe greab a little hadful of nuts. Its better than nothing. YEA FOR FRIDAY!!

  17. January 29, 2010 4:51 am

I’ll say it again … I LOVE your hair!! Favorite pancakes are the banana cream ones from eat drink and be vegan…I love whipped cream on top of any pancakes!!

  18. January 29, 2010 5:06 am

Way to celebrate National Blueberry Pancake day! They look scrumptious! Better than IHop!

I can’t wait to make some pancakes this weekend, so I’m a little behind on the holiday, but who says you can’t celebrate a food holiday 2 days after is occurs, right?

I am so jealous you got the Driod. I am just anxiously waiting my contract to run out (in April) and then I can get mine! LOVE this phone! ;)

Hope you have a wonderful Friday my love! :)

  19. January 29, 2010 5:18 am

beautiful ice cream and beautiful pancakes! gorgey, gorgey, i love the ice vream color!

my fave pancakes are pumpkin pancakes with raisinettes cooked into them. it is such a super breakfast treat. try them! when i have plainer cakes, i don’t really care for maple syrup or butter, so i just eat ’em dry or use some fruit.

i force myself to eat. i go from 0-bitch really, really fast when i get hangry. it is NOT pretty. so i eat for the sake of those around me.

  20. January 29, 2010 5:30 am

Er your restraint around that chocolate is AMAZING. I would have definite dug into the Ferraro Rocher…so yummy! My favorite pancakes are flapjacks – those big flat ones – with lots of real syrup – YUM. Oh and yes I have to force myself to eat – otherwise no one’s safe.

  21. January 29, 2010 5:38 am

Those pancakes look so good! I’ll be celebrating belatedly tomorrow when we always have a blueberry wheat pancake breakfast post gym :)

My favorite pancake is either pumpkin or blueberry. With syrup! Have to have pancakes with syrup. And I don’t ever like to get HANGRY so I always eat. Nomnomnom!

  22. January 29, 2010 5:38 am

I’m in love with your protein ice cream! I have to get some of that guar gum and xanthan stuff!

    Your pancakes are perfect!

Cracking up at the sexy socks! I remember that old man post!

  23. January 29, 2010 5:59 am

Oh pancakes, how I love them! :D I definitely need to make some this weekend.

Question 1: Pumpkin pancakes all the way! With pure maple syrup and some walnuts. So good!

Question 2: Deifnitely force feed myself. I hate having hunger headaches and drowsiness. Blah!

    Happy FRIDAY! :D

  24. January 29, 2010 6:11 am

I just found your blog and love it! I will be trying your protein ice cream.

My favorite topping for pancakes is apple slices heated up with pumpkin, raisins, and pumpkin pie spice.

  25. January 29, 2010 6:27 am

That smoothie looks soo good- i might have to make one today!
Yummy pancakes- you got me craving them!!

  26. January 29, 2010 6:28 am

jb! where do you find that sugarfree ketchup?! i need to get some! :)

  27. January 29, 2010 6:28 am

Yum! That berry protein icecream and the pancakes look amazingly yummy <3

Only 5 days till jamaica! So lucky!!

I like wholewheat pancakes or traditional buttermilk pancakes (NEVER have these) with lots of ooey gooey canadian maple syrup :P:P

  28. January 29, 2010 6:45 am

I’m not going to lie and say that oats and egg pancakes are my favorite and I eat them plain because i’m a rockstar. Cracker Barrel’s Maple Pecan pancakes are the BOMB!!!! They are a little crunchy on the outside OMG..drooling thinking about them.

I’m with you, I got ahead and eat or something bad will happen later.

  29. January 29, 2010 6:58 am

How sweet of you to make everyone pancakes!!! Yours looked amazing!!!!!!!!

I have to make that protein berry icecream tonight for dessert!!!!!!!!

My favorite pancakes are pumpkin!!!! I just love them!!!! I love sugar free maple syrup on them, that stuff is like crack to me, lol!!!

Have a great weekend girl!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxo

  30. January 29, 2010 7:16 am

Word. Force feeding. It’s just better to not be hungry than to be HUNGRY, know what I mean? I just love my daddy’s pancakes. Not form mix, not too fattening and perfect with apricot jam. He is making them for me when I go to WYO for my b-day next weekend. Want to come? Actually, I think you’ll be in Jamaica–much warmer! xoxo

  31. January 29, 2010 7:18 am

omg HOW did you transport all those pancakes?! Lucky coworkers :)
LOL love the death grip on the wine glass. I do that too and don’t even realize it. Or I’ll be SO into what I’m eating with one hand, that when I stop, and only when I stop, do I realize I have my other hand clenched in a fist. Anyone else do that? Or am I just a huge weirdo?! lol
    Have a great weekend, doll!

Hello cutie with the green moustache!!! Pack me in your suitcase! You’re gonna have so much fun in Jamaica, but when do you not know how to have fun?! That pancake looks scrumptious and like it should be in my belly. That yogurt mess can get in my belly too. And those chocolates!!! I love Ferrero Rocher!

    1. I love German pancakes (they’re flatter) topped with cinnamon, apple sauce or apples, and confectioner’s sugar.

    2. Hm… I usually take something to snack on with me. But if I’m in a situation where I can’t do that then I’ll eat something beforehand and also something after. Because if I eat too much when I’m not hungry then I get…. gassy O_O lol, but who doesn’t? Oh wait! My dad because his stomach is made out of iron!

  33. January 29, 2010 7:34 am

dang, those pancakes look perfect! I need to work in your office :) And you should tell those Kodiak people to sell their mix in Virginia! It sounds awesome.

For sweet pancakes, I love real maple syrup. But I also love adding an egg on top :)

  34. January 29, 2010 7:39 am

I AM going to send you a smoothie stache! for real! I just haven’t made a smoothie in awhile. ok that’s a lie, I did make one today but it came out super thing cause i used a lot of water. tomorrow it will happen!

  39. January 29, 2010 8:17 am

I tend to not eat unless I’m hungry. If it’s before a workout though I make sure to force down a quick snack. :)

Your blueberry pancakes look ridiculous! My favorite is adding banana and pumpkin right into the batter. It makes it SO moist. I’ll have to make them again soon. It’s been way too long!!!

  40. January 29, 2010 8:40 am

I would love to send you a smoothie stache picture, but I don’t really make smoothies. I could, but I lack the guar xanthum whatever gums. I’d love to try those, but I’m not into forking over the money just yet when I have so many other snack options that I love. One of these days!

Your haircut is so cute by the way!

    1) I love thick, hearty even slightly undercooked pancakes. I also love Polly’s Oaty cakes because they meet all of the above requirements, and I actually prefer whole grain or buckwheat pancakes to white flour ones.

2)It depends. I will snack on something before I go to the gym if it’s at an awkward time. Last night I wasn’t really hungry but it was 7 and I stayed at the gym until 9 so I had some water and an orange pre departure, and it held me over very well until my very late dinner.

    Have a great weekend!

  41. January 29, 2010 8:43 am

OMG all that candy…I don’t think that would last 2 days in our house (you know because the hubbie would eat it all :))

I want you to come to my office and cook pancakes for us…pretty please?

Oh and FYI I lost to trackball to my blackberry about a month ago…you could have still used it, you just have to learn the shortcuts. Wow I am ghetto. I should have that thing replaced. I’m embarrassed.

  42. January 29, 2010 8:54 am

Isn’t danica the best!! She is such a sweetheart! I like the berry smoothie/creamy yummy

  43. January 29, 2010 9:01 am

    Hey Janetha!! nice stache
    1. fav pancake and topping – blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and whipped cream

Woohooo!!! You got your package!!! The crisps are my FAVORITE thing in there, I think…on and the SOCKS! I was totally cracking up when I got them and I am pretty sure the clerk didn’t quite get my excitement over the socks.

HOLY YUM to EVERYTHING all day! I want ice cream, blueberry pancakes and your wrap now…..drooling over it all!

I HAVE A DROID TOO!!!! The saddest thing I had to give up was BBM, but, I LOVE it. It’s different from a Blackberry but it’s fun. I cannot wait to hear what you think of it….between my sis and I though, I think we figured out a ton of stuff about it. You can also get the book online to download/read since the little pamplet they give you doesn’t say much.

Anyway, text, call, email, messenger or what not if you want to know anything about what I’ve learned about it (I still never found time to review my droid LOL but have listed a few things I’ve LOVED as I went along.)

    Ok..done ~ Happy Friday!!!

  46. January 29, 2010 10:22 am

I love that berry smoothie/ice cream – looks so good. You’re so sweet to make pancakes for all your coworkers.

    1) I love gingerbread pancakes and almond butter is the best topping – I don’t think I’ll ever go back to maple syrup.

    2) That’s a tricky one – I guess I do both. Some days I can sit with my hunger but others are just too hard to go for too long without food. Even just a few bites will hold me over in a pinch.

  47. January 29, 2010 10:22 am

Is it really only 5 days till jamica already?? wow that went by fast!!

And that pancake looks so yummy! I’ve always wanted to make one big pancake but I’m not the best at flipping so I usually just make little ones.

And the arm bike.. LOL you never fail to make me laugh!! I looked up the name of it once.. it’s called an ergometer or something I think!

  48. January 29, 2010 10:54 am

My apartment always seems so much bigger and quieter when my dog isn’t there. Loooove blueberry pancakes. Those are my fav and answer to question #1.

As for #2, I would rather eat when not hungry than to be HANGRY (and I get very very hANGRY when I don’t eat) :)

  50. January 29, 2010 11:18 am

LOVE the smoothie face, this one is a great one! Mine is coming soon =)

I am SO jealous of your coworkers. Blueberry pancakes for all? You are the sweetest foodie ever =)

I love Blueberry or Chocolate Chip pancakes, with real maple syrup!

I try to always be prepared with a snack, because when I am hungry, I am HUNGRY and need food asap!!

    Can’t wait for tomorrow’s FBF!

  51. January 29, 2010 11:51 am

I hate being home alone :(
Okay, wanna come and work in my office for awhile? Great.
Mmm pancakes. Did not make. Was hungover. On a school night. Fail.
Love me some banana pancakes though with traditional maple syrup! YUM.

    Have a lovely weekend!! TGIF.

  52. January 29, 2010 11:57 am

I love all types of pancakes! For healthy I like banana nut or pumpkin protein pancakes. I just started making quinoa protein pancakes b/c I’m not eating wheat or oats for a bit.
The best pancakes I have EVER had are the Danish pancakes from Paula’s Pancake House in Solvang, CA. If you ever have the chance to go there! I seriously dream about these.

I will usually eat when not too hungry instead of having to wait too long b/c I am not a happy camper when starved…or maybe I’m just gluttonous :)

  53. January 29, 2010 12:19 pm

DANG girl! so many good things here, as always. I think being home alone is bittersweet, I love it and hate it at the same time, but I think it depend son my mood, sometmies i LOVE tobe alone! other times I hate it! ya know?? anyways, delicious frozen berry treat you have yourself there and what a big bowl, that speaks volumes!!! its so pretty too!! that would make a great smoothie stach :) just sayin…

mmm blueberry pancakes look fantastic!! my favorite are banana walnut pancakes with SF syrup and more bananas on top!!! i think the combo of bananas and pancakes is hard to beat! I will try with a boost of protein powder in there next time for sure!
I ALWAYS try to listen to my body and feed it when it wants, if I end up getting hungry earlier than I thought I would I just eat something to hold me over till i eat the next meal. If I am going somwehere and I know I wont be eating for hours, i will eat something even if I am not really hungry in anticipation of the long ‘no eating’ time (if any of that made sense!)

love you girl! happy friday and I am SO BEYOND jealous of your vacay? can I cmoe in your suitcase??

  54. January 29, 2010 12:47 pm

I love that you can make all your meals at work! Lucky you! But even luckier co-workers who get blueberry pancakes!!!

Bebe you can make me pancakes any day. Can I please come work for you so I can get some of that berry pancake goodness? WOW. HOT new phone too, so glad you got your hands on one. I’d feel pretty naked if I were stuck without a functioning phone for a few days and I’m not even a mad crazy celly user.
Oh and uh, best socks EVER.

    1. I love making pumpkin oatmeal pancakes and topping them with banana, berries, and pb mixed with vanilla yogurt and syrup!
    2. FORCE FEED. I HATE being hungry. Hungry = cranky, horrible, can’t think, can’t function, chest pains? It’s just bad news. I avoid waiting for hunger like it’s the plague!

What I would give to have a coworker like you one day!! Awesome of you to make pancakes for the office :)

    1. chocolate chip pancakes are pretty darn fantastic. can’t say that I’ve had them since I was younger, but of all the pancake combos, I either like ’em plain or with some chocolate chips.

    2. Force feed for sure! I’ve learned the hard way that I am an angry beast if my hungry gets intense. This semester I have to eat lunch at a certain time each day to make it to class on time. Most days, I’m ready for lunch, but I eat it even when I’m not, because it’s either that or wait until AFTER at 2pm which is no bueno for me!

  65. January 30, 2010 10:03 am

Bahaha, those sexy socks are awesome!! You’ll have to wear them proudly next time you go to the gym ;) I’ve heard of an arm bike before, but I’ve never seen one. I should ask my gym about it – usually they’ll do things if people show interest :) Also, I was a few days late, but I finally had blueberry pancakes today! Yours look aaawwesome. Is your office by chance looking for a communications person who can train people in the office gym on their lunch breaks?? Just sayin’… :P

    1. I’m boring, or rather, “classic” Plain buttermilk pancakes dipped in real maple syrup.

    2. I force feed myself too. I get all wacky when my sugar dips too low, it’s not a cool situation.

  66. January 30, 2010 11:53 am

OMG. my hungover self would KILL for some of those pancakes right now!!!!!!!! blueberries are always my fave addition :)

scrambled eggs w/ salsa and hot sauce, toast, pineapple chunks and coffffeeeeee w/ soy totally made my morning though! we need to meet (obvs), and you need to make me those, kay?!

and i’m the same way! after a few hours i need food, or else i get cranky, tired and lameee. no fun to be around! bars & starbucks drinks are life-savers anywhere u go!! XOXOXO

  67. January 30, 2010 10:44 pm

oooh no! i have a blackberry- i sure hope my rolly ball thing doesn’t break! :/

side note= ridiculously berrylicious good looking eats throughout this entire post. I”m hungry now. it’s 12:44 pm.

another side note- i think you’re the only blog i comment where i don’t care about my grammar/spelling. or caps. :) congrats.

  68. January 30, 2010 10:45 pm

p.s. its very rare that i ever reach starvation mode, just because i like to eat so much. but since starting school i dont think im eating enough! so im definitely going to start bringing snacks/ protein drink shaker things/ and emergency nuts.

if i know im not going to be eating for a while, i definitely force feed a little something beforehand! its all about planning ahead.

  69. January 31, 2010 10:55 am

OK your smoothies are totally rockin like moroccan since you got the gums- sorry for repeating myself but it’s soooo obvious in the consistency. Your berry protein is my exact PB&J except that I add PB and frankensyrups and frozen rhubarb. My go-to fave smoothie ever.

Bollar you lost your ball. your droid looks like an iphone- sure it’s the same right?

I don’t usually have a problem with the force feeding issue b/c I’m always hungry. Nearly anyway.

Your bangs are sooo cute and sharp! So stylish- your hair is bone straight- amazing.

OMG is that chocolate bar really 30% hazelnuts? Like for every 2 centimeters there is a hazelnut? heaven!

Hope you had a good weekend! <3
